The Empty Night

Zayn stood underneath the storelight, nervously biting his lip. He needed to get to the Doctor, but he wasn’t exactly sure how. Glancing at the pack that lay on his back, he reached around and opened it to see what could help. A carrot, orange like one would think, lay on top. It was almost comical how it just lay there, but now was not the time to laugh.

Grabbing it and examining the object a moment, he threw it out to see what would happen. In the blink of an eye, the object no long lay there. It was confirmed. The Vashta Nerada was here and now the thinking of Zayn Henderick had to start.

Sitting down and going through the contents of the back pack, he found a flashlight. Useful, he thought, setting it aside. A little box of matches caught his eye as they almost seemed to shine. Peeking ahead at the Doctor, the light kept flickering. Time was running out.

Taking the matches, Zayn lit one and threw it into the street, creating a tiny circle of light. If only....taking the edge of the flashlight, he tried hard to cut a hole in the back pocket of his jeans. After about a minute of failure, success arose from his hands as the flashlight was stuck in a hole in his jeans, keeping a light behind him.

Gnawing on his lip, he finally pulled out the matches and lit them as he ran across the stree to the Doctor. It was a fairily Nice to meet you, Rose. Now run for your life! plan, but it had to work. It had to.

Thirty seconds after getting to the TimeLord, he grabbed his wrist, and ran back to the safety of the store light.
