Doctor of Nowhere Empty
PostSubject: Doctor of Nowhere   Doctor of Nowhere I_icon_minitimeWed Sep 28, 2016 4:58 pm

Strawberry lay on her back, looking up at the stars and watching the two moons move, very slowly, higher in the sky, while holding the cylinder in her hands, turning it over and over thoughtfully while she tried for the millionth time to figure out why it might be so valuable and important to that guy who was after her. She still had no idea, but whatever his reasons were for wanting it, it couldn't be good reasons, and considering the man's ways of trying to make her give it to him, that was enough for Strawberry to be sure that he must never get this thing. But for now, she was out in the middle of nowhere, miles from any town, and so she felt fairly sure that she was safe from guards and bandits and any other people bothering her.

For once, things were pretty quiet, and she was enjoying the peace of the moment. Of course, there was always the chance that wolves or goblins or something was lurking nearby, but for now she was taking this chance to relax somewhat, and try to think of what she ought to do now. She wished she knew what to do, and wondered vaguely if there was anyone out there that might be able to help her..if she could trust anyone.

She had risked a small campfire to keep her warm through the night, because it was getting toward winter and had been being a bit chilly at night. She didn't actually know which month it was but she guessed it to be either the end of Hearthfire or the beginning of Frostfall, but she wasn't sure. It wasn't that important, either. What mattered was that it was starting to get cold at night and she would need to be thinking about blankets and shelter and coats..and more food.. to last her through the cold months of winter.

At the moment, however, the girl was relaxing on her back beside her small fire, a small pot of stew cooking over it, enough for tonight and for breakfast in the morning. The vegetables may have come from a few farms on the outskirts of the nearest town, and they may have been acquired without permission, but it wasn't like the farmers were going to miss a couple of vegetables. And the meat was fresh, since she'd managed to catch a rabbit in a snare. The food was nearly ready for eating, but she was giving it a few more minutes to finish up, and let the seasonings do their thing. She wasn't the best cook but she could cook well enough to get by, and she had learned a few tricks to make things taste better.

Putting the cylinder away, she sat up and brushed any leaves from her hair, and moved into a cross-legged position as she leaned forward to check on her supper. She decided it was finished, and began to dig out a bowl from her pack, which rested nearby. Maybe tomorrow she would try going to one of the towns, in disguise, and sell a few of the things she'd picked up during her travels that she had no use for, and buy some useful things instead, like blankets and a light coat for the cooler weather. Sighing softly, Strawberry hoped that she could manage that without any guards recognizing her. At least for tonight, she was safely far away from towns and any people..

Flicking a few switches, the Doctor studied the screen in front of him with a small frown. "What do you mean you can't tell what it's saying?" He finally huffed, jabbing at a few buttons nearby then twisting the nob under it. "Put it through and run a translation overtop." Snorting at the angry chime coming from the console, the Doctor ran a hand over his head. and narrowed his eyes in contemplation at the words popping up on the screen. "Well... Tha' is... New." He finally admitted, nodding to himself. "Put it through the speakers."

A few soft pings later, a steady beeping noise sounded through the TARDIS, making him furrow his brow. "Tha's old that is." Mumbling under his breath, he began fiddling with the controls. "Lock on it's location. It's time for the Doctor to answer a call." With a wide grin, he pulled a lever, jolting the TARDIS through the vortex once more, following the distress call he had picked up just a few hours ago.

With a soft thud and final groan, the Doctor slipped out the doors and locked them securely before taking his sonic out and fiddling with it a moment then grinning to himself. Looking it over, he gave it a shake, making the buzz shift in tempo, and, with a soft laugh, he started walking through the trees, eyes shifting from side to side.

"Wha' do you mean it's nearby? There isn' anything 'ere!" He scowled at the tool in his hand before snorting to himself and pocketing it. Up ahead he spotted a flickering light that could only be a campfire. Or, in hindsight, it could be a lunamoria crystal. Beautiful but dangerous. With a slight pang, he brushed off the vague idea that Rami would have loved to see them. Her and her daughter both. Shaking his head, he locked that idea away and stopped just at the edge of the trees.

Nope, fire no deadly radiation crystals anywhere. With a slight grin, he stepped out from the shadows and studied the young woman laying beside the flickering flames in silence for a moment before clearing his throat. "You'll catch cold laying there like tha'. Not to mention all kinds of things could be crawling on the ground looking for body heat." He added, his usual grin in place while walking forward.

"Mmm... Smells good, did you make tha'? Camping, nothing like it! I love a bit of camping myself, then again last time I camped, I ended up in a dungeon wi' a arrow pointed at my head. Turns out I decided to camp in sacred grounds to the people." With a shrug, he plopped himself down on the ground across from her and flashed a wide smile. "'Ow about that? A little camping, nothing like it."

Strawberry was busy digging in her pack for a bowl when a voice startled her. Her head snapped up to see who was speaking, and to her amazement she saw a man approaching her. A strangely dressed man at that. What puzzled her most, however, was that he was chatting to her as if they were old acquaintances. Maybe they were? She didn't know, but it made her feel a bit edgy that he had seemed to appear out of nowhere.

She watched the man warily as he plopped himself down on the other side of her campfire. She waited until he seemed to finally be done talking before replying to the stuff he said.
"Yes, I made it, who else would have?" She hesitated a bit. "If you're hungry, and if you're fine with rabbit stew, there's enough for two. I only have one bowl but one of us can eat from the pot." She divided the stew into the bowl and left half in the pot, and dug out a couple of spoons. She offered the stranger first choice on the bowl or the pot. "I'm not the best cook but at least all the stuff is fresh."

She glanced him over thoughtfully for a moment, then added, in reply to the thing he said about the stuff crawling on the ground, "I'm not worried about a few bugs.. I only worry over things that are worth worrying about. Like goblins and trolls and.." She was interrupted by a distant howl that carried across the hills, through the dark forest. She paused to listen until it had faded away. "and wolves." She finished with a frown, and quietly laid the thick end of a club-like branch on the fire. "Let's hope that one isn't following your trail.. Which brings me to ask, who are you and how did you find me? And what do you want?"

Leaning back on his arms, the Doctor flashed her a wide grin. "Fantastic, love a good stew. Tho sometimes I have to wonder just what's put in it. Especially around the planets in Braxiton Five." Letting out a low breath, he shook his head and grimaced slightly. "I know a few people that say it tastes like chicken, but not me."

Trailing off, he hummed softly in agreement with her comment about wolves and glanced out into the dark, a wistful grin hovering around his lips. "Bad Wolf...." Seemingly drifting off in thought, he became completely silent, vague memories and thoughts floating through his mind until he was brought back by her question.

"Hm? Me, oh I'm no one. No one important at all. Tho, I have to wonder just why you're in the middle of nowhere eating stew you made yourself... When there is a city not too far north from here." Leaning forward again, he rested his arms on his legs and tipped his head to the side. "And for another fact..." He shifted around in his pockets a moment then tugged his sonic out. "Why you have a distress signal coming from tha' bag of yours." With a nod of his head, he indicated the bag next to her, easygoing grin slipping from his face and melting back into a more serious expression. "A very old code actually. It should be impossible for you to even have anything like tha'."

Strawberry sent an odd look toward the guy when he started rambling about some planet with a weird name and wondering what was in the stew.
"Just rabbit meat, potatoes, leeks, carrots, and some herbs and stuff." She answered with a shrug. She left out any mention of the possibility that those vegetables might have come from nearby farms - without permission from the farmers. She started on her own stew and left the guy to his silence for a while, as she listened carefully for any further noise from the wolf.  She noticed that there was only a single howl and that it was not repeated by any other howls. That typically meant a Timber Wolf; those were bigger, stronger, faster, harder to kill than the average wolf, and much more dangerous.

But soon thoughts of the wolf were pushed to a back corner of her mind, and she glanced back at the man at his implied question about why she was out here when there was a city not too far off. It wasn't as if it were a crime to be camped out here. Besides, maybe she was traveling and had gone as far as she could for the night. Actually, now that she thought about it, she wasn't sure what town he was talking about. She knew that she was miles from any town; she had intentionally gone that far from any town in any direction. So what town did he mean?

Just then a cloud moved and revealed the larger of the planet's two moons, and as it did so, the crumbling towers of a nearby ruin could be seen silhouetted against the moon. She looked at it and frowned, turning back to the stranger.
"There's no towns nearby... you surely don't mean that, do you?" She pointed to the ruin with a frown. She was beginning to get a little bit suspicious about this guy. Could he be a bounty hunter? Should she let him know she was armed? She decided to keep that information to herself for now, and only let him find out if it became necessary.

Then, her suspicion turned to puzzlement as he asked something about a distress signal that ought to be impossible.
"What?" She asked, sincerely baffled by that. "I have no idea what you're talking about." She frowned and tugged her bag a little closer to her, suddenly extra protective of the contents, specifically the one that she had recently been holding just before this stranger showed up. What sort of distress signal? What did that even mean?

Then another thought popped into her head. She couldn't help wondering what that strange thing was he was pointing at her. Was it a weapon? Or some sort of magical device? Maybe it ought to join the other items that she had in her possession, which had once been in the possession of people whom she had deemed not responsible or trustworthy enough, and had therefore relieved them of such items...

Tipping his head to the side, the Doctor eyed the young woman across the fire from him, eyes flicking down to the bag she suddenly gripped tight and felt a small smile hover around his lips before he pulled it back. "Yes, tha' would be what I'm talking about, those ruins." He nodded over towards them, leaning back slightly so he could let his gaze wander around the area idly. "I noticed some people wanderin' around. Looked like robes... Now tha' I think about it-" He straightened up and frowned in thought. "This place should be dead. As in empty, how come they're here?"

Pulling his sonic out, he fiddled with the buttons a bit and held it up to his ear. "Nope, no loose wires..." Mumbling to himself, he continued twisting it around his fingers with a frown marring his normally easy-going features. "Wha' do you mean? Tha' isn't right an you know it..."

Coming back to himself, he remembered his company and flashed a quick grin over to her and stuffed the sonic back into his pocket. "Now then, you. Out here campin', middle of nowhere, nothing bu a fire and food." He got to his feet and tucked his hands into his pockets with an air of finality. "Well, you 'ave nothing to worry abou'. Jus me passing through, see ya!" With that, he started walking off in the direction of the ruins with a slight skip in his step.

Nothing like finding something impossible to cheer up anyone's day.

Doctor of Nowhere Empty
PostSubject: Re: Doctor of Nowhere   Doctor of Nowhere I_icon_minitimeFri Nov 04, 2016 10:20 pm

Strawberry stared in bafflement at the weird guy across from her. First he called it a town, now he seemed to realize it was ruins and should be empty. And he was talking to that magic weapony noise thing in his hand, it seemed. She wondered what might be wrong with the guy's head. He seemed a bit off in the head, and she was wondering if he was escaped from somewhere. Maybe he'd been in a dungeon and gone mad... or perhaps he was drunk. Or he could even be on some drug, but she doubted that, he wasn't acting that sort of crazy.

Well anyway now he wasn't any concern of hers because he had taken off to go check out the distant ruins. She watched him for a moment, then shrugged and continued eating. She glanced toward where he had gone, and could see his back as he got further away. As she finished her bowl of stew, she sighed and bit her lip, debating. Should she go after him or keep her distance? She thought about the ruins he was heading toward. She knew what sort of people hung out in those places. The guy was going to get killed. No doubt about it. But it wasn't really any of her business, was it? She sighed and quickly licked her bowl clean before stuffing it in her pack; she'd find a stream and wash it properly later.

After kicking dirt over the fire to put it out, she quickly packed up the rest of her stuff and put on her pack, then set off at a jog to catch up to the guy. The moons' light was enough to see by as she followed him, and it wasn't long before she saw him ahead, striding along with his long legs and heading straight toward the ruins. Being short had a few conveniences, like when you're hiding in tight places, but when trying to catch up to someone that was much taller, it was very annoying being unusually short. But soon she was close enough to converse with him.
"You know that's a dwarf ruin..probably full of bandits or ghosts..or their weird creatures." She commented. "You go in there, you're probably going to get killed." She glanced up at him. "How well does that buzzy weapon thing work?"

If he was dead-set on going in there, she supposed she could at least tag along and fight the stuff that was lurking in there. "And you'll want to take this short cut over here," She added, pausing and pointing the right way. "There's a bridge there, it'll go straight to the door. They'll probably have someone watching it, of course. Well, if there's bandits there, anyway. So we'll need to be really careful going across and don't let them see us..." She didn't really give any chance for him to tell her she wasn't coming along. She had made the decision to come along and try and keep the weird guy from getting killed, and she was going to stick to that decision. Besides, if they were going in there, maybe she'd find something useful. Or just shiny. Or worth a lot. So she just hoped they wouldn't get killed in there and that they'd find enough goodies to make it worthwhile.

"If I die, hide my body from the vultures then." The Doctor chuckled and tossed a quick grin down at the woman, eyes twinkling in amusement. At her mention of his sonic, he pulled it out and waggled it teasingly in front of her. "This is the most powerful tool I 'ave... Well aside of my spaceship, but tha's just a given." With a shrug, he flipped it up in the air, caught it and tucked the sonic away once more.

Striding along, he eyed the trees around them with a slightly manic gleam in his eyes as they moved closer to the ruins in the distance. Faint moonlight filtering through the leaves above from time to time to splash light across his features. "You know, there's a planet with a pink moon. Imagine that, a pink moon. Really, it's beautiful, however to see silver or blue ones all th' time then suddeny- pink!" He clicked his fingers with a light laugh. "An' then th' stars, all colors you can imagine out there yet here we are, under th' silver moon and white stars..." Trailing off, he eyed the woman once more curiously.

"Wha's that in your bag? You seem awfully protective of it." The Doctor finally asked, already giving up on being polite at the moment as his curiosity got the best of him. "If anythin', I'd say tha's where the signal came from." Patting his pocket, he hinted at his sonic was what picked it up and eyed her up and down. "You alien?"

Strawberry rolled her eyes a bit and She glanced at the strange wand thing as he said was the most powerful thing he owned, and something about a ship with a lot of space. She frowned slightly as she heard him going on about other planets and pink moons and stuff, and thought this guy was definitely not quite right in the head. Something with a lot of powerful magic should not be in the hands of a person like that.

"Pink moon... on another planet. Riiight." She pointed up to the smaller of the two moons, which wasn't as noticeable since it was partly behind the big white moon. "Are you sure it's not that one?" She asked, pointing to the small, reddish moon. Yeah, this guy was definitely not totally sane. She wondered if he had escaped from someone who was supposed to be watching him.

His sudden question about her bag caught her by surprise, and she looked up at him with a frown, then tripped on a root in her path, which caused her to bump into him lightly... while slipping the magic wand of power out of his pocket and into her own using her very advanced sleight-of-hand skill.
"Sorry..." She backed up a bit. "My bag has everything I own in it, of course I'm protective of it. I don't know about any signal.." She added, then tilted her head and gave him a sincerely baffled look as he asked if she was alien. She really had no idea what he meant by that.

Alien? Was he asking if she was from another country? Or from outside the empire? She considered it for a moment before deciding that he was probably asking if she was from a distant land.
"Not as far as I know. Why would you ask that?" She frowned and paused at the bushes clustered around the beginning of the bridge, and peered down the length of the bridge to try and see if anyone was lurking on the other side closest to the ruin's entrance. She couldn't see anyone but that didn't mean they weren't there. She was familiar with the way bandits liked to hide off to the side of the road and stop travelers to demand a toll. She also was aware that when they used places like this for their hideout, they liked to post a guard or two by the entrance to keep people from invading their hideout.

"We should be careful going across, try to stay out of sight ok? There might be someone posted as lookouts." She whispered, before beginning to move stealthily across the bridge, hoping the crazy guy would be stealthy as well. As she got to the other side, without encountering any bandits after all, she paused to look at a long word that was carved skillfully into the side of the stone beside the door, which read Igrezgarchranzcharnak. Of course, she had no idea what it said but only could see that there were a lot of letters and that it seemed unusually long for a word. Other than that, it held no significance for her.

"It was just a question." With a slight shrug, he trudged along until they came to a bridge and clicked his tongue thoughtfully as she murmured something about being quiet and not being caught before she made her way across.

Once she landed on the other side, the Doctor walked across himself without a care as he turned his gaze up to the crumbling ruins in front of him thoughtfully.

Peering at the carved letters, the Doctor grinned wide and leaned closer to see them better. "Igre-zgarcha? No Igrezgarch-ran... Rain? Ran-zchar-nak... Igrezgarchranzcharnak, fantastic." With an estatic smile, he turned to the door thoughtfully. "Ah, door."

Thinking to himself, he turned to glance sideways down at her thoughtfully. "What would you suggest would be the best way to get into someone's home?" He finally asked conversationally, starting to pace around the area, poking at this or that, peering around various items set up around the perimeter.

"We could search for a hidden opening..." He pushed some bushes away from the wall and looked at the stone there in disappointment before continuing. "We could... Knock on it to see if there's any loose rocks..." Pausing, he rapped a knuckle against a few stones. "Or we could find a window." Chuckling he looked over at her and his smile dropped. "In-tru-da window? Nothing? Ah..." Shaking his head he turned back to the door.

"Or." With this, he sent her his widest grin yet. "We get invited in." With that he knocked loudly on the door without a moment's hesitation. "There, problem solved."

Strawberry had a puzzled look on her face as the crazy guy started saying some weird, very long word. It took her a moment to realize that he was reading it from the carving beside the door. "Ingra.. What?" She shook her head a bit. "I'd never be able to say that..." She wasn't going to try it, either. There was no point in it, and she knew if she tried she'd just sound like an idiot. She wasn't interested in sounding like an idiot, so she wasn't going to attempt to pronounce that word.

As she watched him begin trying to find a way in, she folded her arms and raised an eyebrow, slightly amused. Just as she was about to say, 'or we could just go in..' He started to pound on the door. Alarmed, she jumped forward to push him away.
"What are you doing, trying to get killed?" She glared at him. "Don't you know what kinds of people hang out in these type of places?" She wondered who was supposed to be watching this guy, because he'd clearly escaped from someone's care. After waiting a moment with no one coming, she breathed a little easier. "You have got to learn to be stealthy." She grumbled under her breath as she tested the door, only to find that it was locked. "Maybe they didn't hear that." She commented, hoping that was the case.

"Why do you want to go in there so bad, anyway?" She wondered out loud as she pulled out her favorite lockpick and got to work. It was an older style of lock but she'd seen some like it before. Therefore, it didn't take too long before she heard the satisfying click as the lock was opened. "Okay, it's open, but don't go rushing in.. There could be traps." She warned him, even as she checked around the door to make sure that there weren't any traps set to go off if it was opened.

The Doctor frowned slightly when she reprimanded him for his actions like a child and folded his arms as she slowly opened the door, her head peering around the edge for something or another. "Look, no one to stop us." He finally said moving to stand beside her on the other side of the door and peered around as well.

Looking down at her, he smiled and gently slipped past, moving deeper inside the area as he studied the crumbling rock with a critical eye. "Love an old fortress... Castle? No..." He trailed off looking around the area again then nodded. "Fortress. See? Nothing here but u-" Suddenly the ground fell away from under his feet, making the Doctor look down for a split second before gravity kicked in, sending him falling down the pit.

A few seconds later he landed, hard, on cold stone, forcing a grunt from him at the impact. "I'm fine!" He called up after catching his breath, already trying to look around the area and frowning at the dark pressing in on his eyes. "I'll find another way out, yeah? You go on..." Trailing off once more, he searched his jacket for a moment then pulled out a small light with a triumphant grin.

Clicking it on, he shone it around the area and tipped his head to the side. "Yep, a door. Meet you back up there... Eventually." He called over his shoulder as he made his way over to it quickly. Already eager to get out of the small, cramped area.

Reaching out, he grasped the handle, and ignoring the webs liberally coating it, he turned it to the side and pushed the door open, revealing a long hallway on the other side. "Fantastic."

Doctor of Nowhere Empty
PostSubject: Re: Doctor of Nowhere   Doctor of Nowhere I_icon_minitimeThu Nov 10, 2016 8:39 am

Having seen places like this before, Strawberry wasn't about to be fooled by the apparently empty, safe hallway. She entered more cautiously than the weirdo did, and while she was reaching into her side pouch for her fire making supplies with intentions to light a torch, the guy found the first trap. She was a bit startled when he suddenly dropped out of sight, mid-sentence, but at the same time it wasn't totally surprising. A hole in the floor was a very common sort of trap for these places, usually putting you right by the very thing you didn't want to encounter; be it a giant frost spider, or a group of bandits, or whatever happened to be holed up in the deepest parts of the place.

Carefully coming to the edge of the hole, Strawberry peered down, frowning as she listened. For a second she didn't hear anything and got a bit worried. "Guy?" She called softly. Then she heard him call up that he was fine. Despite believing him to be a total idiot, she felt a bit relieved to hear that he was fine. She assumed that meant no broken bones or sprains or other sorts of injuries. So that was a good thing. Although, if he had injured his foot or leg, maybe he would have stayed there til she could help him. But that would have also meant she'd have to help him out of this place, so it was best this way.

His next words worried her slightly. He was going to go on. Alone. She frowned and hesitated, then called down to him. "Be careful... you're probably very close to danger." Whether he would listen to her warning or not was up to him, but at least she'd warned him.

Sighing, she moved around the hole carefully and felt along the dusty, cobweb-covered walls to find a torch. She was some ways down the hall before she finally located one, and by that point, she saw a dim light ahead. She paused, pressing her back against the wall. She didn't hear anyone, but that didn't mean they weren't there. She listened carefully for at least thirty seconds before moving forward. The light came from a brazier that was a little further down the corridor. She could light her torch from it, but it would ruin any element of sneaking for her. She preferred stealth, as it always seemed like the method that worked best for her.

In the end, she decided to go on without a torch. It seemed as if from this point, the corridors were lit well enough to see where she was going, while shadowed enough for her to hide if necessary. After passing the burning brazier, she saw that the corridor went down some steps. She paused to examine the area for traps, then avoided a certain step that looked a bit off to her, and proceeded down the steps. Now there was a chamber with two doors, one going to the right, and the other to the left. Which way? She stood looking from one door to the other, biting her lip as she tried to decide.

Shining the light around the area, the Doctor moved forward once more, this time a little more wary of traps in the floor as he walked along, light flicking down to the stones under his feet from time to time to be sure he isn't pressing any buttons or anything before taking a step.

Before long he came across a door at the end of the hallway, flickering light shining through the cracks and drawing him closer to investigate. Clicking off his torch, he slipped it back into his pocket and leaned forward to press an eye against one of the larger cracks and peered inside.

A split second later, he nearly felt his hearts freeze in his chest once he caught sight of a young child, no more than eight or nine, standing in the center of a circle of men, a black dress nearly drowning her with it's size as she stared up at them, silent tears staining her cheeks.

The men on the other hand, all wore some ceremonial garb, and, what really made the hairs rise on the back of his neck, daggers.

Without pausing to think of the possible consequences there were for bursting in on a room of armed men, he opened the door and stepped in, a pleasant smile on his face at odds with the cold look in his eyes as he stared down the figures as they turned to stare at him. "I think I may have found my way in here by accident?" He started, glancing around then turning back to face them. "Can't seem to find the bathroom, me, always bad with directions. I'd end up in the thirteenth century of France if I were aiming for 40'th century China." With a shrug, he stepped forward into the circle and put a hand on the young girl's shoulder.

"You wouldn't mind if your little friend here showed me the way out, no? Thanks." With that, he started pushing her forward towards the door, ignoring the threatening blades slowly being pointed in his direction. "Keep walking, no matter what you hear. I promise, you'll get out of here." He whispered to the girl, making her look up at him with wonder. "Mister, how can you promise that?"

"I have two hearts that I've sworn on a number of times." He grinned down at her, already at the doorway as they turned to face the others. "And I have yet to stick needles in me."

"That doesn't make any sense, Mister." She whispered back, her eyes moving around the room frantically as the group of men slowly closed in on them. "That's me, I never make sense if I can help it."

After pressing her ear to each door, Strawberry decided on the one going to the right. It just sort of seemed to her like the way down. She first tested the door and found it unlocked. Now she was cautious as she opened it slowly, not wanting to set off any traps by accident. She relaxed only slightly when nothing happened. She started down the tunnel, which, indeed, led downward. Now she just had to find the crazy guy and hope that he hadn't gotten himself killed.

As she moved cautiously down the tunnel, she heard shuffling noises ahead of her. She tensed and pressed against the wall, listening. There were rattling type noises as well. She frowned as she tried to figure out from the noises what it was she would be up against. Shuffled steps, rattling with a slight creak... her best guess was an undead skeleton. She hoped it was a weaker variety rather than a stronger one. Taking a deep breath, her hand found the handle of her dagger, so that when the skeleton came around the corner, she was ready.

She moved fast, slashing at the weakest point in the skeleton. It didn't have insides so there wasn't anything like that to attack, so she went for the spine since she was too short to reach the neck bones with her knife. The skeleton was surprised by the attack and turned to attack her in return, raising a large two-handed sword. Strawberry inwardly groaned; it was one of the stronger ones. She dodged a blow from the sword and jabbed her dagger at the skeleton's ribs, then as her dagger got caught in the ribcage, she kicked at the shinbone of one leg while yanking with her dagger so that its torso was jerked forward a little bit while the leg was kicked back a little. The skeleton, being stronger than her, snarled and threw her back from it. She hit the ground on her back, but immediately jumped up and drew another dagger since the other was still hung up in the creature's rib cage.

She waited for the skeleton to come at her, and when it did she swiftly dodged the sword that it swung at her, which then clanged into the crumbly stone wall and got imbedded about an inch into the stone. Strawberry took advantage of this to slip around behind it and jumped onto its back, then began using her dagger to try and pry the skull off of the neck bones, working hastily as the skeleton began striving to reach her...

Ademar was furious that the ceremony had been interrupted. They'd had everything in place. The girl was holding still and not even trying to run, and they were just about to get started when some grinning idiot came barging in and grabbed her. Stunned by the sudden interruption, Ademar watched in disbelief as the man started for the door with the little girl at his side. He then turned to his followers.
"Stop them." He ordered calmly, but very coldly. He was THIS close to having succeeded in freeing Lord Vulzal from his prison. For the second time. First that despicable little red head girl had foiled his plans, and now this grinning idiot with the big ears? This time he was not going to be stopped.

But as his followers were surrounding the man, and cutting off his exit, Ademar thought he heard something of use. Two hearts? How incredibly unusual. Maybe he had heard the man wrong. He must investigate this. With the others surrounding the two trying to escape, and holding them at the point of their weapons, Ademar approached. Only his eyes, filled with cold fury and malicious intent, could be seen thanks to the hood he wore. He gazed thoughtfully at the man trying to take the child away.
"Did I hear that correctly? You have two hearts?" He inquired, seeming to be merely curious but for the dark look in his eyes.

Looking over his shoulder, the Doctor eyed the man with contempt. "Is there an echo in 'ere? Yes." Narrowing his eyes slightly, he gently urged the girl behind him and faced the leader of the group. "An' it has nothing to do wi' you." He added, glancing around at the various others surrounding them thoughtfully. "Though, I wonder if this is really the time for any of this?"

Pausing for effect, he took a small step forward, eyes drifting from one face to the next in an almost curious fashion. "Jus' wha' were you 'oping to accomplish? Killing a little girl. 'Ardly any point to it, is there?"

Turning back around, he reached into his pocket and winked at the little girl before whipping out his sonic screwdriver and pointing it at some of the men standing between them and the door he barged through. "Move out of the way or I'll use this!"

Ademar couldn't hide a brief smile as it was confirmed what he thought he had heard. Turning to his followers, he gave them a convincing speech.
"He is the one!" He announced. "Our Lord has been prevented in returning to us because of him!" He went on with a speech about how this guy apparently was harboring Vulzal's heart and they needed him to be able to free Vulzal. At some point within this speech he announced that the girl could go free; she didn't really matter. He didn't say that he didn't mind her running off into the tunnels of this ruin because he knew she'd probably get lost and killed anyway.

Strawberry continued to make her way down the tunnels. She had to backtrack a few times to find the right way; these dwarven ruins could be like mazes at times. She encountered a few more nasty creatures and dispatched them as swiftly as she was able to do. Before long, she began to hear echoes of voices. It took her a little bit to locate the right passage to get to where the people were, but fortunately the one voice kept going on and on and on so she was able to locate the right tunnel after just a few incorrect tries, due to the echoes seeming to come from all around her.

She moved silently down the tunnel, watching out for enemies as well as traps, particularly the one like the Doctor had fallen into. Finally she arrived at a door. She could hear the man talking on the other side. He sounded somehow familiar but she couldn't place his voice and was currently a bit more concerned about finding the Doctor before he got into any sort of danger. She paused as she studied the door.

There was a torch burning in a holder on the wall, near the door. Thanks to that, she was able to see a thin wire running from the doorknob to a hidden spot off to the side of the door. She knelt carefully and let her fingertips run along the length of the wire, locating the thing it was attached to. In moments, she had set about disarming a trap that, from what she could tell, would cause a small explosion that was likely to injure or kill anyone who opened the door while the trap was in place.
