Zane Marx hesitated to use his newly acquired Vortex Manipulator. He had never used it before and didn't want to screw something up. With his luck, he would probably end up on the bottom of the sea floor, or hundreds of feet above the ground. He finally mustered the courage to push the button and closed his eyes, as if that would protect him from anything.

"OH MY GOD! JOHN, WHY IS THERE SOMEONE IN THE BACK SEAT?" A very high pitched and extremely frantic voice screamed. Zane opened his eyes and noticed that he was in the back of a car. On the highway. Moving. John, the driver slammed on the brakes and the car slid off to the side of the road. "Son, how'd you get into my car, and why are you in my car? You have 30 seconds to explain yourself." Zane panicked and couldn't find the right words. Wait, there weren't any right words. These people would call the cops if he said that he teleported himself and accidentally ended up in there back seat. "I-I, was um, er. You see, I was traveling and uh ending up here on accident." He was trying to be as vague as possible. Maybe then they would ask questions and give him a way out. "How'd you manage that? You just randomly appeared." Zane was fed up with these people already. "I teleported myself through space and accidentally ended up here. Sorry if I inconvenienced you, I'll be on my way now. Zane opened the door and started to walk towards the nearest place of civilization.

After a few days of checking the headlines and not seeing anything investigation-worthy, he moved back toward the highway and started walking in the opposite direction. The city he arrived in was very small, more like a town. He checked the headlines there and found two intriguing stories. One was about his appearance in the car and the couple claimed he was an alien from outer space and brainwashed them into taking him to his ship that crashed in the middle of nowhere. The other one was about fireworks in the night sky that were making people do weird things. One man said that the fireworks gave him an "irresistible urge" to steal multiple things from a furniture store. Zane thought that this was very peculiar. However, it could just be an excuse for someone to get what they want without paying for it. He decided that he would look at the fireworks when it got dark out and figure out where they were coming from.

Robin yawned, laying on the roof of some random person's house. Why? Well why not, she was beginning to run out of things to do. All the places she knew the coordinates of were kind of boring, so she didn't see the point in going. Not unless there was some kind of trouble, and it isn't like she can predict when that happens. Well... only if she's not with one of the many Time Lords she knew. So much for a dying race...

Sitting up, she crossed her legs, deciding to spy on whoever was walking along the sidewalk. Of course, no one was there. This entire street was kind of empty. "Not a neighborhood I'd want to live in..." She sighed, scooching forward and dangling her legs off the edge of the roof. Well it wasn't like anyone was around... maybe she could go give herself some flying lessons? Although that sounded slightly fun, it wasn't worth the risk.

With a grumble, she lifted up her wrist and typed in random numbers, not actually looking. Maybe she'd end up somewhere fun. Pushing the button, she disappeared with a flash of light, reappearing in the middle of the street in some other town, looking to be about the same year as where she just was, maybe one or two years ahead. Swearing under her breath, she ran to the sidewalk, grateful there weren't too many cars. "Always this time period... what's so bad about other years? Why is this one just so attractive, huh?" She tapped her manipulator, frowning at it as if it was alive.

Of course it wasn't alive, that was only TARDISes.

With a sigh, she leaned against the wall of what she thought must have been a dollar store and stared out at the street, beginning to count the cars as they went buy. After counting 29 cars, she saw a man dash into the store, wearing a ski mask. Well that wasn't good. "Excuse me, sir?" She scowled at him, not liking the fact that he ignored her completely. Rolling her eyes, she returned to her earlier position, closing them and beginning to take a nap. A few moments later, she felt something bump her arm. Snapping her eyes open, she saw the same man from before, but leaving with an arm-full of random knick knacks. "Well... that's..."

A woman ran out of the shop, obviously enraged, "Which way did he go?" Robin reluctantly pointed towards the way she remembered him going. "Those stupid fireworks" - the woman made air quotes - "have caused 3 people to steal from my shop! It's got to end!" With a growl, she ran in the direction Robin pointed, leaving the girl utterly confused. Fireworks? Maybe she landed somewhere good after all...

Sonya stepped out from behind a building, one of her hands grabbing the thief's arm as he passed her and stopped him in his tracks. "Aw, now you don't really think you'd get away with this, did you?" She asked idly, flashing the man a smile and slowly walking him backwards in the direction he came from, already spotting what she suspected to be the owner of whatever store he looted the items in his arms from. "Ah, there we are, now you can give the woman a nice apology and give her those things back." She said brightly, waving the owner over and turning the man around while taking his mask off in the process.

"Found him just a couple of buildings down. He would like to extend his sincerest apologies and give you your things back." Sonya said happily, pushing the man forward with a hand flat on his back, her eyes already spotting Robin leaning against the store in front of her. "Now... If you don't mind..." Sonya murmured, watching as the man meekly handed over the items he had taken to the owner while the older woman continued to chastize him. She nodded over at her friend before walking away and joining Robin against the wall. "Long time no see. How long for you my young friend?"

Zane wandered through the small town, trying to find the place of the burglary. "Cindy's Outrageous Stuff" was a very vague name but he guessed that the few people that lived in this town were simple. As he walked, he noticed that the town was very unkempt. There were papers scattered around, almost all of the alleys were unlit even though the sun was almost down, and everyone seemed to be out of town. He hurried down the street, hoping that he wouldn't get mugged or pulled into one of the dark passages between the small buildings. He made it to the store he was looking for and noticed that it was a bit bigger than most of the other buildings but still looked dirty.

Once he was inside, he walked to the customer service desk. "Excuse me, do you know anything about the recent robbery?" The banner above the desk read "Helping our customers friendly and happily!". The employee slowly raised his head and squinted his eyes at Zane. He then pointed towards the back of the building and put his head back down. The "help" was neither friendly nor happy. He moved to the back of the store and knocked on the door of a small office. A woman's voice told him to come in. "Uh, yeah, hello. Could you tell me anything about the recent break-in?" He started the sentence with nervousness, but quickly gained confidence. "You mean attempted break-in? I stopped him before he could get away. Well, actually, someone had already caught him but they handed him over to me. The man said that him and his family had been gazing at the fireworks last night when he got an urge to steal somethings from my store." He had found just what he needed, a lead. "This is a small town, who was it that found him first?" The woman, Cindy, ran a hand through her hair. "I have no idea. It didn't look like she was from around here either. My guess, if you really want to know, is that she came here to investigate as well. It might be a good idea for you to find her. Or you could stay here and shop." She laughed at her weak joke and told him to shut the door on his way out. He walked back out the front door and began looking for the mysterious crime-stopper.

Jay was walking through town with her stuff packed on her back, looking for a taxi, a bus, or some sort of transportation besides walking. Jay had only stayed for a day or two, and she was already eager to get out. There was something wrong with this town. It was too quiet. Jay knew it the moment she walked into a bar. This bar, one of the few bars in the town, had none of that. No drunkard, no fight, no kid trying to sneak a sip. Absolutely empty besides her and the sleazy bartender.

As Jay stood on the sidelines, watching the robbery happen, she knew she should really hurry up and go. She already knew about the fireworks and the recent robberies, but didn't believe them, passing them off as some rumor. That changed when Jay witnessed the one in front of her. Jay would have broken into a sprint, chasing after the thief, but someone else did it before she could. As then thief returned the stolen items, Jay thought, 'Maybe the would know something about this.' She approached to two girls and cleared her throat a bit, to get their attention and to get ready to put on another fake British accent. "Hello. Just saw you chasing down that thief, great job. But, do you know if these robberies are a normal thing around here?" she asked, curiously and attempting to pass the whole thing off as a casual question.

Robin grinned, seeing Sonya come over and force the man to return the stolen items. Well of course she would turn up and do that. Once asked how long it had been for her, she had to think. "Um... a few weeks? Nice to see you too." She giggled, looking out at the street now. She didn't normally think anything of the people walking by, but the one woman walking towards them seemed to be suspicious. At least it worried Robin, usually strangers walking up and confronting her weren't good. Then she heard the woman speak, and she felt relief. Okay, just an innocent question, if a bit odd. "I'm not really sure, I'm not from around here." She shrugged, looking to Sonya, then back to the woman. "Kind of on a vacation, I guess you could put it that way."

Jay nodded, a bit disappointed about the lack of information in the red head's answer. She had hoped the red head could at least have told her if she had seen any other robberies occur. However, if anyone asked Jay that question, it's not like she would be able to give them a good explanation. She as well was just staying temporarily when the strange fireworks and robberies began to occur. "I was just passing through town when this whole thing happened, and I was hoping to figure out what's going on," Jay explained. "Wasn't much help, but thanks for your answer."

Jay pulled her hand through her bangs, a habit that showed up whenever she was thinking deeply or stressed. She took a moment to think about what she has found so far. 'So there are fireworks that cause the people who witness them have uncontrollable urges to steal,' she thought. 'Yep, still at square one.'
