PostSubject: Never have enough   Wed Aug 28, 2013 10:49 pm

Homework was a terrible thing and Ramona glared at its scattered remnants on the floor. You could see the dirty carpet through the holes and rips while she could see nothing more than her teachers angry face when she explained the circumstances. Nobody could possibly enjoy the after-effects of a bad decision, especially concerning an important piece of literature due by that next Monday. Ramona scowled hard and tugged anxiously on a strand of red hair, pulling it around to chew on the stalk.

Maybe it hadn't been such a good idea to come, mayhap she should have stayed in her little hometown and let the scholarship pass her by. She hated it here, New York was large and horrible and it smelled, even her clothes were beginning to reek. Even she was starting to smell like city. It was powerful and poignant, a stench that clung to your shoulder like some black mist, making people stare at you weird as you passed. Ramona hated it. How could anyone enjoy living here?

Anger followed every flow of hair as Ramona breezed through the dank streets, twilight was fading and people were milling about in search of entertainment. She barely dodged a companion on her way to the next paycheck and shivered in veiled disgust. Why anyone would deem such a lifestyle acceptable was beyond even her meager thoughts, and she had no problem judging them for it. Even children were no excuse for such vulgarity, bah! Ramona pulled her lips into a fine line and trailed nervous fingers through restrained hair as nightfall stole across the horizon.

The Siren watched Ramona silently from a darker corner, away from the lights that kept the streets well lit at night. The only sound coming from her was the faint ticking that followed her everywhere. Too much time had been spent on repairs. Now it was time to advance her plans to escape this disgusting planet.

There was always something mysterious about the soft prickle of hair on the back of your neck. Fine hair that could sense the bare differences between danger and safety, they were a body's natural defense and yet they were paid so little heed. Now was a perfect example, Ramona whipped around to gaze at the dark space of alley, glancing across the street to its adjoining twin just to make sure. Nothing, nobody invaded the stuffy spaces and so she exhaled sharply and kept walking.

Somehow it felt different though, every step, right foot - left foot. One before the other felt strained, goosebumps raced across her arms and Ramona shuddered. Home sounded more like the place to be and she was rapidly regretting the choice to venture out. Especially as late as it had been, she couldn't even spy the escort from earlier. So few people clung to the street corners, leaving her virtually alone. And that, simply terrified the country-girl.

This human... aware.. perhaps, not without some instinct? Useful
The Siren followed her target with careful, silent steps. Years of training as a warrior and a lack of really skin made it exceedingly easy to move without making an abundance of noise. She gilt a twinge of paranoia and gave a quick glance around at the darkness surrounding, and called to Ramona after coming within fifteen feet of her. "Cease all movement, save breathing. I wish to speak with you." It had been some time since the Cel had needed to use her voice, and was thankful that it came out sounding human, and she remembered how to speak English.

Somebody was talking and by the way that no one noticed she could only assume the command was for her. Ramona cocked her chin and glanced over the hump of her pack to spy the... Thing? The girl seemed relatively human, but that couldn't take away from the sallow paste-white of her skin, almost like a too-stretched sheet over someone's skeleton. From what she could see the girls hair was black and eyes the color of a neon sign stared her down, hard and unforgiving. Yet decidedly calculating. Ramona blinked a few times before a scowl pulled down the purse of thin lips.

Almost immediately her fingers found the trails of her hair and wrapped the thin strands around long fingers. Ramona narrowed eyes at the girl and snorted, "What are you my mother? No, of course not. My mother would have had a heart-attack by now." She sniped as tendrils of irritation crept across the expanse of her spine. Nerves jumping hysterically to every beat of her heart.

The Siren frowned, and stepped closer. Her goal was forgotten momentarily as she was confused by the response. "Your tone is rude. Was I acting provocative?" The ticking sound of her heart quickened as she, out of habit, attempted to communicate telepathically. Her mind met the cold darkness of solitude and The Siren remembered unhappily that she hasn't repaired that part yet. No, don't think about repairs right now. Acquire this human. It will become her duty to guide us on this world, then we shall hunt those who can provide us with escape.

"I don't know what you think provocative means, but you sure as hell weren't." Perhaps the girl was special? That would require some tedious down-playing on the annoyance attached to her mood. Ramona tended to avoid the special sort of people, things never went over well. Maybe it was her maybe it was them, either way the thought of this girl being less than normal made her blanch. With the desire to flee growing stronger by the second, Ramona tried to imagine something that would enrage the girl enough to leave. She needed to get back to her homework anyhow, no time for dallying!

The Siren closed her eyes and touches a finger to her temple. "...Not my preferred attitude, but I've already made my selection." Her eyes open up to look into Ramona's. "You will come with me, and assist in the work of the Arbiter." The way she stated it was firm, but not overly aggressive. She didn't want to scare the human, nor provoke her into resisting. And if either of those came to pass... well, the blade The Siren carried could do the scaring.

Ramona scoffed a little as the girl, woman? Replied. Talking about being going somewhere and Arbiters, definitely a loony. Was it commonplace to have random, sickly strangers approach you in New York? Or mayhap it was common to see homeless folk trying to kidnap the not so homeless. A small glimmer of amusement was pushed below a wave of disdain for the woman whom was moving closer. Fingers caressing thick lips and green eyes flashing with a stern persuasion. Was she just expecting Ramona to lay on her side and go along? Charades was just not her favorite game and thus Ramona stood her ground "You're really damn creepy man, would you just go away?"

As an enforcement Ramona finally turned and strode off, trainers smacking the ground as her pace powered into a quick-walk. Her chest heaved and her arms felt heavy, eyes strained as though she'd been looking at sun for too long.

She took long strides after Ramona, her boots thudding against the ground as The Siren stopped trying to be stealthy. A easily audible click sounded, and the shielding on her arm disappeared for just a moment revealing a skeletal arm made of a golden alloy. A short, foot long blade slid out from the underside of her forearm and fell into her hand. As the shield reformed down her arm as the blade extended to become four and a half feet long, narrowing more as it extends into a full katana.

It's amazing how quickly ones thoughts can change from the situation at hand to something more- appropriate for ones thought process. Alas it was a painstaking jolt to reality for Ramona when she took the chance to peek around her shoulder, just as a precaution to make sure she wasn't being followed- For her to see the blade, and realize that danger was afoot.

Theories meant for pages of undone homework escaped through the window as Ramona gasped and whirled on her feet. Fear, adrenaline. These were the bearers of bad news as they painted a fine glaze of terror into honey-brown eyes. She didn't bother crying out for there was no one to hear her, but she could run. So she did, she ran. Bolted was more like it, rounding the nearby corner and making a beeline for somewhere closer to crowds, and people.

The Siren gave a mad grin, enjoying the prospect of a hunt, and chased after Ramona at a sprint. The only thing slowing her down was weight, thanks to the mechanical parts that made her stronger than most men. Her "hair" was a trail of black behind her, and she slid off the coat she ha been wearing to run faster. Her clothing was down to black combat boots, grey jeans, and a black t-shirt.

Oh come on! Her mind shouted angrily, a nervous shock to her system that propelled her legs into a mechanical sprint. Ramona hadn't been a sports girl, never was and never would be. That didn't mean she hated to play like she did, mostly including track and a little bit of tennis, though less of that after getting smacked in the face by the ball. Her trainers were a rhythmic 'mack, mack' upon the corroded pavement, rocky sidewalk rising up to slow her progress as desperation kicked in. The chick was following her! What the hell? What did this mad lady want? Ramona chugged onward, arms curled in close to her body and fingers wrapped tightly into the folds of her hoodie.

Familiarity would do her best now.

"What the hell man!" She gasps, briefly relating the woman's speed to the memory she had of a snake. So fast and powerful, gaining ground despite Ramona's head-start, which was just ridiculous. At least in her mind, it just wasn't even fair.

The Siren narrowed her eyes, and brought one foot down hard on the ground, then took another step and kicked off in a forward leap. In mid-air, she brought her arm back and the sword shrunk down to a dagger. The blade sung through the air and, if uninterrupted, would go between Ramona's legs and land in front of her. The alloy was of alien engineering, and would stick in the concrete. She landed and only paused briefly before running once more.

Ramona cried out in heavy frustration as the tip of one scuffed up sneaker slipped into a crack in the pavement as naturally as a ring onto a finger. Her sprint was cut short as suddenly as it'd begun, flashes of a golden knife forced their way into her mind.

Come on, this sort of thing didn't happen to girls like her. She went to high school, sort of listened to her parents and at least tried to do the chores. Ramona believed she deserved just a little relief from drama, no, she deserved none of it. Drama was for the theatre club and she was not a theatre major. At all. Ramona sobbed against the cement as something landed in the hard surface just a few inches from her nose, eyes widening. What the hell was that? A new thread of fear laced its fingers around her veins, it sang through her ears as she realized she was going to die.

Ramona did the only thing she could think of, and closed her eyes as tightly as possible.

The Cel gave a mechanical growl, and retrieved the blade, the lifted Ramona up by her collar. "Do not close your eyes, human. It hinders any ability to gather information for a counter-attack." The disguised arm revealed itself to be mechanically once more, as the weapon was slid back into her forearm. "Now... I have a task for you."

Even before the woman was done talking Ramona had squeezed her eyes shut once more, flutters of brief memory teasing across closed eyelids. If she was going to die she supposed she could at least remember a tad about her mom and dad, maybe even alexei... Nah, he could stay hidden under the baggage awhile longer. Still, despite the oncoming truth that she was going to be manhandled and possibly made to do awful things- like in the movies, duh. Ramona decided she would fight this lady tooth and nail, if you could call her a lady, who used human these days?

Gritting her teeth Ramona clenched her fists and made to tune the woman, creature, thing out. She didn't want to think about the impossibility of implications a randomly appearing mechanical arm entailed. No, she just really wanted to go home and maybe, just maybe if she wish hard enough Ursa minor would grant it.

The Siren relinquishes her grip on Ramona and her skin crackles with electricity and begins to dissolve away as blue light. She stood now as a skeleton of Golden metal, with smooth plating covering her head, stomach, chest, and upper back.

This just wasn't happening, it didn't happen to people like her. Well to be honest it didn't happen at all, aliens and machines didn't exist in this context. Could it even be classified as machine? Or would android fit her better. Ramona shook her head furiously, hair fluttering over shoulders and down breasts. She jerked and fought, pushing, kicking and struggling to free herself from the creature that held her. She was afraid, terrified and utterly in chaos with herself, mind and body taking individual liberties, leaving her senses hanging.

Ramona focussed on a thought and stayed there, chanting in her head and convincing herself that it was all a dream and that this thing didn't really exist. It wasn't there and wasn't holding her above the ground, floating like in a dream. That's all this was, one big, nasty dream. Nightmare.

She gasps and throws out her fingers toward the... Face of the creature, searching for sort of eyehole, nose piece, whatever! Something to help her cause.

The Siren flinches back as Ramona comes close to the delicate parts that make her eyes, and growls. "Why do you resist? I have no intention to hurt you. The only chance of harm is if you continue this!" Her patience had worn thin. Patience was not a thing she had applied in a long, long time. Perhaps I should have simply struck her from behind... The Siren suddenly felt a twinge of anger. Her plans were being halted because of this... insolent human.

She should be saying something, screaming at the very least, but she wasn't. She remained totally silent and that might have been in part from her air being cut off, this chicks- things, hands were ridged and hard. She was yelling and Ramona was crying, freely weeping in silence as she listened to the creature shout angrily. She expected Ramona to believe that no harm would come to her? That she would do no harm?

Ramona gasped and grappled at the things golden arm, cold metal biting angrily into the flesh of her sweating palms. She couldn't- she couldn't trust this thing no way! Any normal person would be okay in this moment, and she sure as hell wasn't. She was terrified and doing what people did in terrifying situations. She struck out in an attempt to defend herself, to escape. She could deal with being last out of the classroom and being run into by strangers. But she would not resign the fate of her life to this thing!

The Siren sighs and takes a few steps away from Ramona. "No harm will come to you unless you attempt to run or attack. I know you can't help being flawed, but please control yourself." She tried to remember how one dealt with children, as it seemed appropriate in this situation. "I am an alien, stranded. All I require of you is access to your civilization's supply of uranium."

She huffed a few breaths as the thing stepped back, wobbly on her feet as though gravity wasn't sure how to handle having her back. Her eyes stole up to the android, wild and wide with fear. She felt like that one time she'd gotten lost in the mall of America, crying until a security found her and escorted her back to her mother. Except there was no security guard, there was not a soul within yelling distance and she regretted her decision to take a late-night walk. Yet again. The creature regarded her with a look much akin to a mother struggling to chastise her child, it spoke to Ramona with the tone of one trying to make a 'special,' understand. Was this creature daft? Or was everyone else in the world capable of handling this situation with more integrity? Because she sure as hell wasn't.

Call her a child, this just couldn't be.

Ramona glanced up then when the android spoke of Uranium and she cocked her head in confusion. What in the world would this thing want with that? And even if she could find access to something that dangerous it's not like she'd take this thing to it. Hell, to be honest Ramona wasn't even sure what Uranium was and somehow that made her head spin and shame prickle in her chest. At least she knew it was dangerous. "What- In Buddha's name would you want with that nasty crap?" She exclaimed skeptically, her mind flashing brief little images of a time she'd long begun to forget about. A man and his little blue box.

"Uranium is used to generate large amounts of power, amounts appropriate for a star-vessel. You will take me to your civilization's supply of uranium." The Siren's cold, mechanical gaze watched Ramona and noted everything, calculating emotions from body language. She had delayed long enough, it was time to proceed. It had taken little time to learn that uranium was heavily used here, and that acquiring it was not easy because of the planet's divided factions all hoarding it. This was of little consequence. A clever Cel could easily out-do the agents of this world.

And here she was beginning to think she'd seen, heard, and experienced it all. Then the creature spews off non-sense about star-vessels and power to something, and whatever. Ramona didn't speak 'intelligent,' she spoke common sense and realistic. And this chick was neither from what she could see, was she even really a girl? Without fully believing that deduction Ramona ducked her head and grabbed another mouthful of air before standing up, trainers planted firmly into the murky sidewalk.

"Well-" She leans back with hands pressing into her lower-torso, "I hate to break it to you sister, but you picked the worst person in the world to use. I don't even know where to start looking for said 'crap,' and honestly I don't care." She sniped irately with a sufficient helping of nerves at the android.
