PostSubject: Doubly Mirrored   Sat Jan 11, 2014 1:28 pm

Espen's eyes fluttered open, and his mind raced to discern exactly where he was. The room was foreign to him. It wasn't his normal bed: the ceiling was a solid plaster as opposed to the tile he was used to, the bed was hard compared to his own Memory Foam topped one, the walls were much further away than his bedroom's weren't and there seemed to be other cots around with other sleeping individuals in them.  He groaned and rubbed his eyes.  No, that's right, he came here himself. Part of a one week on site live in job in a scientific compound, complete with a nondisclosure agreement and a liability release forms.  With a rueful glare down at the pitiful excuse for a pillow, Espen sat up and retook his bearings.

The room was cold.  Not literally, it was an almost obsessively perfect 20 degrees centigrade in here.  No, it was more cold in the clinical sense.  The the walls were smooth and pure white, with that one single stripe of color (a soft orange, in this case) that seemed to hold the designer's desire to shout from the rooftops that they had some kind of design sense. Really, it just came off as bland and frankly a little hard to look at.  The ceiling was the same white, and just as smooth.  The room had only a few windows high on the walls, and the morning sun shone through the eastern panes.  There were about 30 beds, most still occupied with other sleeping employees. There was also, Espen knew, another probably nearly identical room some short distance away for the female employees. They were all here for the week, tempted by the high pay rate that so often passed over them and the possibility to work on "the biggest scientific breakthrough since the Large Hadron Collider."

Everyone, that is, but Espen.  While it would be nice to be part of something so great, something about this place didn't sit right with him.  After doing a hi of legwork to find out more about this company, he saw that it had cropped right up out of nowhere.  This company, Doubly Mirrored, had registered for a grant for scientific research, claiming to be a Swedish foundation looking to expand.  What's more, they'd gotten it.  Quickly.  And no matter how deep he looked, Espen couldn't find so much as a word about what exactly they were researching.  So naturally, he applied for a job.  So here he was, driven by pure speculation and curiosity, eating a donut, downing a coffee, and finding his locker and the shiny white lab coat inside.  Threading his arm through the sleeves, he put on his best skip and headed for the large, comfortable looking waiting room in which the employees were to receive their work details.

Krystalle had decided to give her host, Harleen, a side job - she had recently become a full-time detective - and she thought this Doubly Mirrored place was strange enough that she needed to attend. Krystalle had entered the building and she looked around, "Doesn't look that strange..." She muttered to herself before she went to her new locker and she got her lap coat and she put it on. She had a black shirt underneath and skinny jeans on.

She then looked around once more before shutting her locker and going towards the waiting room and she saw a man and a couple of other new employees; she waited for her work details. Her butterfly blue eyes would blink before resting on the male stood next to her. Should I introduce myself? She thought to herself but felt nervous and she looked down slightly.

Braxien had just returned from one of the crime scenes and had an hour lunch break. He had recently heard that a new place opened up, that had been the main reason that he had come to the place: Doubly Mirrored. Even the name was slightly off. A movement in the corner of his eye, he spun around to see a security guard walking towards him.

"Not supposed to be here, off-limits."

"I work here." Braxien said, flashing him a card.

The security guard looked from the card back to Braxien and nodded, her eyes narrowing as Braxien walked off, failing to notice that her ID card had vanished.

He walked through the doors and spotted an employees locker, went in and put on a lab jacket. He didn't want to stand out. But a familiar face appeared. Harley! Wait…she had butterfly wings on her eyes, was this a new style? He had not authorized her to put any large amount of makeup. But then again, she had moved to the detective division and they must have said something…

"Hi, Harley?" He tapped her on the shoulder, glancing at the male figure next to her. "What are you doing here?"

He pulled up a chair and sat on it, slowly spinning around. All the while, glancing at the butterfly wings she had on. They weren't real, they couldn't be.

Krystalle felt something tap her shoulder and she froze up before hearing her host's name.
Oh it is someone that knows you. Krystalle smiled a little as she spoke to her host, Harleen, inside her head.
Well, yeah it is Brax, my best friend. Harleen sighed.
You wish it was more, don't you? Krystalle smirked slightly.
Shut up! Harleen shouted at her and then Krystalle looked to Braxien while he sat on his seat. "Hello, Brax." She said with a small, shy wave and a happy grin. Harleen never waved to Brax, she would hug him and kiss his cheek, but of course... this wasn't Harleen, it was Krystalle.

Espen let out a hearty yawn as he waited for some of the later wakers to arrive.  There were a few people filing in already, but apparently some of them were perfectly fine sleeping on a strange, uncomfortable cot.  Well, that was ok for them.  He, on the other hand, still had a bit of a crick in his back.  Espen was just a little bit lost in thought as the woman approached him.  Even for a few koments after, as she stood there quietly, he simply stared off at a wall.  The place was weird, for sure, but most scientific installations seemed that way to those not used to them.  Finally, he blinked his eyes and returned to the now when another man approached them.

He seemed to know this woman, which immediately sent up two red flags.  One, that they seemed to know each other.  Two, that the man Brax, apparently) didnt know what the woman (Harley, he assumed) was doing here.  For two individuals who knew each other to both end up here was a pretty amazing coincidence in itself.  But for them both to have applied separately without speaking to each other about it first?  Even more of a coincidence.   A bit too much for such a suspicious place, thought Espen.  Perhaps he wasn't the only one whose attention was caught by the oddities that came up here.  However, for n. Until the lights d it would be best to play it cool and deal with these possible allies later, especially as more and more white lab coats filled the room.  Instead, he only smiled cheerfully at the pair, as if everything were perfectly normal.  A quick glance at the wall clock told Espen that it was 10 to 9, so the next and hopefully final leg of their orientation would be kicking up soon.  Hopefully, they might actually be given some idea of what exactly it was that they were going to be doing here.  All that had happened the day before was a bunch of cheesy prerecorded videos explaining the importance of safety equipment and the spill management guide and blah blah blah.  Until things started in earnest, Espen decided to keep the pair in the corner of his eye, in case he could glean any more information from them.

Avril peeked around a corner, eyeing the people as they stood near the lockers. Labcoats. That's what she needed, a labcoat. They seemed to get them from the lockers, so that's what she was going to have to do. This place was so easy to break into, it was almost not entertaining.

She had simply waltzed through the doors, simply claiming to have signed up for the program and earning herself a bed for the night. Not as good as the ones she'd usually sneak into, but better than nothing. The lectures were definitely not worth it though - she didn't pay attention at all. She was really looking forward to today - how fun would it be to seriously damage some research? Better yet - how long until something exploded? That thought sent her into action, strolling up to a locker as if it were her own and taking the coat from inside. Well now what? She'd just have to follow the crowd. Or ask some questions. Either way. One man seemed serious enough, and he wasn't talking to anyone. With a shrug, she put a grin on her face and skipped over to him, stopping right in front of him in an attempt to block his path. 'You. You look smart with the glasses and such - where are we going?'

"Hey Harley…what's up with your eyes?" Braxien said, raising an eyebrow slightly. He began to look at the various people hurrying around him before focusing on the man in front. He looked smart and seemed to be busy.

"You. Where am I? Sorry, must make me sound like a fool…haha, anyway, I'm Braxien Lythis. Brax for short." He said, pointing at the man he stood in front. He pulled up a chair and sat on it, slowly spinning himself around and around…and around. He enjoyed the small things in life and this was one of them. Spending useful time on a spinning chair, trying to figure out what was going on.

"Harley, I was wondering where you were. Your unit was looking for you and they came to me but I didn't know. But still…your eyes…they are…different." He looked away as a message popped up on the monitor besides the man. He jumped up and went to reply, when another person walked in. He furrowed his brow and realized that this was the woman an anonymous caller had called him about. He had not told anyone so it was not released to everyone, as the caller recommended him to do. "Hello there…"

His voice was laced with suspicion, something he rarely did as he wasn't really suspicious of anyone. But none the less, he continued to spin around in circles, a goofy grin on his face.

PostSubject: Re: Doubly Mirrored   Tue Jan 14, 2014 4:29 pm

When the woman approached him and spoke to him directly, Espen smiled to himself and adjusted the thick rimmed glasses.  Looking smart was one of the core reasons he still wore the things rather than switching to contacts.  Still, even after the slight ego boost he received from the comment, all he could say was...

"Dunno yet, we're just waiting for them to tell us."

Even as he spoke, however, the man from a moment ago, the one who was speaking to the woman with the interesting butterflies on her eyes, addressed the man at the front of the room.  Really, it was the first time Espen had taken a good look at him.  The man wore a labcoat like the rest of them, but he wore it loosely and underneath was a full suit and tie.  Also, over the heart of his coat, and a few others who seemed to be acting as moderators in the room, there was emblazoned the symbol of the company:  A dark red capitol M, split in half flanked by two capitol Ds, one backwards, so that the symbol was perfectly symmetrical.  His face was long, his deep set brown eyes glaring out from underneath sharply groomed eyebrows.  His nose mirrored his face, long and thin, hooked just a bit at the end.  His brow furrowed just slightly, causing his almost sharp, black hairline to become even more pronounced.  His mouth was curled into a smile that seemed just a hint forced.  This guy, Espen guessed, was from the business side of Doubly Mirrored as opposed to the science side.

The man's smile flickered for a moment as he was spoken to directly.  He cleared his throat and folded his hands behind his back, raising his chin higher into the air.  "...Yes, we will be getting to that shortly,"  He said bluntly, turning his eyes away from Brax and looking over the crowd's collective heads.  In the back of the room, two other people wearing the logo'd labcoats entered the room, one male and one female, and waved to signal that the last of the prospective employees had entered.  He nodded curtly, then raised his hands.  The lights dimmed just slightly, and Espen took the hint to grab a seat.

"Good morning," he began, his smile suddenly seeming a little bit more genuine.  Or, at least, it was a better fake than it was before.  "Welcome to Doubly Mirrored Laboratories, where the future is today."  Espen cringed.  Clearly, they didn't have the best writers.  The man continued nonetheless. "I am Augustine Johnson, CEO of Mirrored Laboratories.  We thank you all for your interest, and for joining us here.  We also thank you for your patience with us, as we are sure you have a lot of questions.  I wish we could tell you everything, however this topic is very sensitive and we cannot divulge all of the details.  What we can tell you, however, is that all of you will be helping us shape the future of energy generation, and your contributions here will go down in scientific history.  And, furthermore, all of you have the opportunity to become permanent members of our foundation.  I look forward to working with you all to truly shape the future of our world, and create a better future for all of our future generations."  Finally, his somewhat fake smile seemed to fade away into a real, happy grin, and he opened his arms wide in welcome to the group.  "Now, everyone, you will be divided into groups based on where you are currently sitting, so please follow the Doubly Mirrored associate to your workstations, where you will be further filled in on your duties.  Again, thank you all, and let's do our best for the world!"  He waited there, just a few moments as the lights returned, scanning for any last minute questions, before heading away to one of the doors on the side of the room.

And with that, the room was split into quadrants.  Brax, Harley, Espen, and Avril were all sectioned into group "D", and once their names were taken down they were asked to wait there with about 12 other newly hired employees until the rest filed out to their stations, and that they were free to talk amongst themselves for a few minutes.

Espen crossed his arms and frowned.  That hadn't exactly been as informative as he had hoped it would be.  Still, at least he had one more piece to this weird little puzzle:  They were experimenting with new forms of energy generation.  That...narrowed it down.  A little bit.

-----

In a small office, Mr. Johnson tossed his lab coat over the back of a cushy office chair, then sat in it himself.  He folded his hands in front of his face pensively and waited.  He didn't need to wait long.  Another man entered the room just a few moments later, holding a clipboard.

"How many?" Augustine asked, his eyes raised to his visitor.

The other man looked down at his clipboard and pulled a handkerchief out of his inner shirt pocket, wiping a bit of sweat off of his brow.  If Augustine hadn't been in the room, this man would be considered skinny.  Next to the gaunt CEO, however, he looked a little plump.  Healthy.  "At least two, but we're waiting for the final head count to be sure."

Two?  Augustine frowned for a moment, but then smiled.  Surely there were more than two.  He chuckled slightly, then stood up.  "Mr. Stevens, I have a good feeling about this..."  He turned away from the mahogany desk and stared out the window at the stretch of plains that separated them from the city of London.  "A very good feeling indeed."

Krystalle blinked at Brax, she sighed. "My eyes are different.... and I guess I forgot to go to my h- I mean my work." She cursed under her breath as she slipped up and Harleen was shouting at her inside her mind, she shook the sound off and looked around curiously before following the others to where "D" group were stationed and she crossed her arms and groaned in boredom, it had already become boring but Harleen insisted to come to Doubly Mirrored and check it out, besides... Krystalle had to be a good Harleen, otherwise she would've blown her cover a long time ago. Even though she pretty much already had when it came to Brax. "I wonder what our first job will be..." She looked to Avril, Espen and Brax curiously.

Sighing, Avril slumped her shoulders. Well if she was judging by appearances, no one was going to know what was happening because he looked to be the smartest in the room. Or around her, anyway. She didn't feel like actually looking. A few moments later, a man had started speaking, and she decided it was in her best interest to actually listen. Usually she had to know what was going on before she destroyed it.

After what seemed, to her, to be the longest speech in history, she waited to be assigned to a group and begin experimenting. That was what they were here for, right? She probably should've listened better. Apparently she was in a group with the smart guy, so that was good. She could ask him what stuff did. And then there were those two awkward people who were all... awkward. She'd make sure to mess with them later. Now, she needed to get a handle on the situation so she could properly ruin some things.

Braxien fiddled with the handcuffs underneath his lab coat, as comfortable as he was around the new woman, he had that tinge of doubt surrounding him. He held Harley's wrist firmly, not enough to hurt her but to make her understand his confusion and want for a solid answer about his eyes.

The speech had turned his attention off, it was long and he had no clue to why the man bothered to say what he did. Everyone was falling asleep. He leant over to the man he had first seen and extended his hand. "Sorry, I don't think we have been introduced? Braxien Lythis." He smiled, but at the back of his mind, he was screaming at himself. Braxien could have set off warning signs as he doesn't work here and he could have at least used a cover name. Too late now, mate...

But why was Avril here? She was known for burning down…"Oh…the building…" He said out loud, finally realizing why she was here for. Of course, she could be here for other reasons but none the less, he would have to follow her or keep a close eye on her for the meantime.

"Harley, what happened to your eyes? I need a straight answer, was it...?" He began to list all the facilities that could have done it. It was really perking his curiosity and the way she had suddenly grown butterfly wings on the side of her eyes.

"So, Av…who are you?" He stopped, needing confirmation that this woman was who the informant said she was.

Krystalle gulped as Braxien grabbed her wrist and she looked up at him, her face went pale and she tensed up.
'How am I supposed to tell him?' She asked herself.
'He is my best friend, Krystalle. Just tell him, he won't hurt you, I promise. Even if he tried to hurt you... he would technically be hurting me and he wouldn't do that.' Harleen tried to calm down Krystalle and Krystalle stopped tensing up and she looked to Braxien, she lent up and whispered in his ear. "If you want an answer you have to follow me to somewhere private." She slipped her wrist out of Brax's grip and she went off towards a room that was completely empty and she sat down against the wall. Waiting for Brax to come in.

PostSubject: Re: Doubly Mirrored   Sat Jan 18, 2014 4:15 pm

Espen's brain was working overtime at the moment, even if he was just now sitting quite still.  He was working one at a time through the names he's heard from the group when they'd been given to the proctor.  First and foremost was this Braxien chap.  Every code name, pen name, screen name he'd seen or heard or learned of from the online community that investigated this sort of suspicious stuff clicked through his head like the wheel on The Price is Right.  Finally, once he'd exhausted all of his options, he was left with the fact that he simply didn't know.  Braxien, if he was part of some organization, wasn't part of one he knew of, or he was using a name that hadn't been caught.  Next was this other one, Harleen Qu-...

Wait, Harleen Quinn?  The model?  Yeah, that was Harleen Quinn!  Wait...What was Harleen Quinn doing here?  Suddenly, he saw Brax's point.  Those butterflies on her eyes were a bit disconcerting now.  He could only assume that it was some kind of fashion that was far, far out of his range of...well, caring really.  Then there was this last one.  Avril something-or-other.  He frowned a little bit and ran back through the rigmarole of comparing the names he'd heard in the past.  Again, nothing, at least from his perspective.  Even still, Braxien at least was suspicious, which made his knowing Harleen suspicious as well.  And this Avril girl didn't quite seem to fit in either.

He was shaken from his deep thought when Harleen stood and attempted to leave.  He almost shook his head.  Indeed, as the woman headed for a door, she was stopped by one of the officials.

"If you need to go to the bathroom, ma'am, we can escort you.  Otherwise, we ask that you not wander the common area until the designated lunch hour.  Please return to your group."  The man spoke politely and calmly.  Espen yawned slightly.  Of course they couldn't leave, they were on the clock.  This wasn't exactly study hall. Espen turned towards Brax and shook his hand when it was offered. "Espen Valdemar. Nice to meet you."

Before Espen could continue to fully introduce himself, another official walked out of one of a door to their right and approached them. "Alright, group D? Right this way." He said, pointing at them with the back side of a pen. Once the group was following him, he began explaining a little bit more. "Alright, now you're all in our experimental group. You'll be running two different forms of power through a variety of materials and noting the differences. It will be a blind experiment, meaning you only need to separate them between columns A and B."

As they approached a door at the end of the hallway, a pair of employees handed out clipboards with small stacks of forms on them. Each form was identical: A space at the top labeled "Station Number and Material", then two columns that took up about half the page labeled "Observations A" and "Observasions B", and then under that was a third, wider section with the header "Please note any other differences between the two examples, however minor or unrelated they seem."

"We'll need you to be as absolutely specific as you possibly can. The more helpful you are now, the more likely it is that we'll hire you for a permanent position. Thank you, and if you have any questions, there will be employees around the room to help you."

And with that, the door was opened and the room spread open before them. Actually, it was fairly bland. A sterile, smooth, white room, with about 40 stations around the perimeter and 4 large tables in the center on the room with stools around them. Espen blinked and looked around at the stations. Each one seemed to have a variety of pairs of materials: samples of gasses in tubes, wood, rubber, and, to use a non-scientific term, a bunch of other stuff. Each place also seemed to have a pair of diodes leading down under the table to an unknown power source, meant to be hooked into each object. Also, there were rubber gloves and goggles enough for three times the number of people that were in the group. He glanced at his clipboard and sighed. Looked like he wasn't gonna get much more information from here, either. Figures, these jobs were basically just volunteer work. He'd have to sneak away during their lunch or during the night in order to do some personal investigation without quite so many eyes on him.

Avril shook her head as she followed the group from behind, trying to listen to the instructions but giving up quickly. Science made no sense to her, it was just fun to blow up. But once they were in the room, she was less than impressed. What was up with the empty tubes? And what the heck were those things? No matter, there was wood. Wood burned. Why not see how long she could hold out before tearing the place apart? Normally it would have been a piece of cake, but that was the problem with things like this. Anything 'science' usually had some sort of safety precaution, and most of the time, it got in her way. As of now, she could only burn some wood, maybe rubber if she could stand the awful smell, but that was only until she figured out what those.. things... did.

Shrugging her shoulders, she took a quick look at the clipboard she was handed - though she could have admitted she snatched it a bit harshly - and furrowed her brow. Alright, what was with the columns? What the heck was supposed to go there? Nothing she saw was labeled A or B, so what was she even meant to do? Good thing she wasn't aiming for the rules, then. Rushing in, with a dangerous grin, she pulled on the gloves and began to examine some things. The goggles would only be annoying, really.

Braxien was pacing around the lab, wondering whether to go after Harley. But this woman, Avril, had that odd look when having a crazed fantasy at wood. Maybe his day was going to get interesting, maybe he could stop a crime from ever happening…He walked over to her, another pair of googles in his left hand. "Ahem. I think…you may need these." Braxien was balancing his clipboard, trying to tick off anything. Science wasn't his best subject at school, now that he thought about it, but things around here didn't add up.

First, Harley was here, missing work and potentially on the edge of getting fired and then, Avril. She was a criminal of some sorts…but what could he do? He was a forensic technician not a police officer…he could make a citizen's arrest but evidence? He had none.

"Espen…first day here, I'm just wondering…the fact that their isn't many people in group D. Why?" Braxien asked. He was sounding like his former, police officer self, detective-self.

Tension was built and he couldn't stand it any longer, he was going to have a serious chat with Harley, something was up and he needed to know. But where had she gone? Hanging up his lab coat and putting googles on the table before hurriedly walking out the room.

The bright light contrasted against the dim one outside the room, he might as well have been blind for all he knew. "Sorry, just wondering where Harley had gone?" He muttered to himself, knowing that he would attract more attention than he needed for the situation.

Finally, he found an empty room and saw Harley. He entered. "Alright, spill the beans. What's going on?" His voice was sterner than usual, but he meant to be. It was his 'I need to know something and you better tell me…' voice.

Krystalle looked up to Braxien, she noticed his stern voice and she gulped before walking up to him, "Braxien... I-I am not who you think I am." She was quiet when she spoke, she knew if the tension got any higher she would have her selective mutism kick in and she really hated it when that happened. Krystalle took a deep breath, "I-I am not Harleen... I-I am Krystalle.... Harleen is the host body I am using, it explains the eye thing." She pointed to her butterfly eyes.

She gulped a little and stepped back from Brax, just in case he went to hit her or something. "I-I am sorry..." She murmured before looking down. She closed her eyes and slowly raised her head to look to Brax. "B-brax...?" It was now Harleen, Krystalle had wanted Harleen to calm Brax down... if needed. "W-why am I in this empty room and in this... lab coat?" She tilted her head a little, she was confused and sounded quite weak when she spoke.

When Harleen walked right past the man who was attempting to stop her, he blinked, rather surprised.  He turned to go after her but, after just a moment, he stopped.  "I'm sorry, sir?"  He placed two fingers to his ear, to better hear the listening device.  "....Yes, sir."

In the examination room, Espen stood at a station, hooking several of the materials up to the sets of diodes.  He glanced at the door.  The woman had been allowed to leave, and frankly it was bothering him...And then Braxien walked straight out of the room as well, no questions asked.  The employee standing by the door seemed to move in response, but he quickly drew back and allowed him passage.  Espen grimaced, but continued his work.  He looked over to the woman working next to him.  (Working.  Hah.)  "Hey, so whatcha think?  Not exactly what I expected, working at a scientific institute.  Guess we gotta start at the bottom rung, eh?"  He shrugged.  Some conversation would help this go by quicker.

-----

Meanwhile, two individuals were having a strange, meaningful, and private conversation.  Well.  Sort of.  Except for the whole private thing.  Mr. Johnson sat in his office, fingers weaved together.  His eyes were locked on a monitor, a small speaker playing every sound that occurred in the room.  As the two people spoke, the smile grew across his face.  How very interesting...How very interesting indeed...But now was no time to be impressed.  He reached for the walkie talkie that sat on the desk nearby, raising it to his mouth.

-----

Just as Harley was asking her questions, the door to the room opened.  "Excuse me, what do you two think you're doing away from your station?"  A man in an official lab coat stood in the doorway, tapping his foot.  He looked a fair bit less friendly than the other employees, but Dr. Stevens, as he seemed to be called by the embroidery below the symbol on his coat, also looked quite a lot more professional.  "We are not paying you to sit around and chit chat.  If you want to keep your job, I suggest you tell me what group you belong to, and I'll take you back to your area.  If not, then we'll gladly send you on your way."

Avril looked up from her work, glancing over at Brax as he attempted to get her to put on the goggles. Why? What was the point. 'Uh... thanks?' She snatched them from his hand, turned them over in her her own for a moment, before setting it back down and getting on with whatever it was she was actually planning on doing. First, she might as well figure out what some of this stuff was. Alright, little wooden cube, rubber... shapes... A potato? What was that for? Now she was really lost. Sighing, she turned to the man next to her to ask what those... thingers were, before she realized he had just been speaking to her. Oh. Well what did he say? Wow, she needed to learn to pay more attention. Nodding casually, she shrugged it off and went on with what she was planning on inquiring. 'Hey, mind telling me what those things are?' She gestured to the diodes, knowing it probably made her look like an idiot. Then again, she couldn't exactly claim not to be. As long as she didn't get kicked out before she had her share of fun, she didn't care.

"Hm?" Espen peered around the short station divider into Avril's area. If he hadn't been suspicious of her qualifications before, he was now. Then again, this place didn't exactly seem to be hiring super-geniuses in the first place, so really in the end it didn't mean much of anything. He smiled cheerfully and stepped over. "Think of them like batteries. The send an electrical current through whatever it is you attach it to, going from one cable to the other. What happens is, you take one of these cables and attach it to the receptor on one side of the object..." He picked up a black cable from the "A" side and attached it to a metal receptor one end of one of the two standing hard-glass tubes labeled "Argon". He then took the red cable and attached it to the other end, and once he was sure that both were attached, he flicked the "A" switch to the on position.

Immediately, the clear tube lit up a bright, neon, pinkish purple color. "It's how neon lights work." He offered, taking a step back to look it over. "What they want us to do is write down what we see when we hook each object here to each of the two power sources, and then note any differences." To explain further, he hooked up the other argon tube up to the "B" set of wires and flicked the switch on that one. This tube again lit up with the same pinkish, purplish color. However...

Espen stared at it for a few moments, not quite sure of what he was seeing. He adjusted the safety goggles overtop of his glasses and shifted closer, squinting a little bit at the lit up "B" tube. "It..." He struggled to find the right words, adjusting the goggles again. It couldn't be... "It's...moving."

Inside the tube, just a little bit, very subtly, it looked as though the light, and by extension the gas that was giving off the light, was fluctuating, pulsing through the glass every half second or so. Espen straightened up and glared suspiciously at the tube, then stepped back over to his station to start work with other such materials. Many of them acted quite in the same way. The different gasses lit up their respective colors (Krypton lit up a whitish blue, Helium was a bright , redish white, neon was red, etc.), but one of the two (The "A" side in his station) seemed to exhibit the same pulse for all of them. The rubber and wood, when hooked up to electricity, naturally did nothing, but when hooked up to the other they almost seemed to...move. It never left its spot, but wide ripples ran down from one connection to the other.

"Uh...Sorry, I..." Espen realized that he'd begun almost completely ignoring the woman next to him. He'd been writing feverishly for every test, filling out the form in its entirety for each material he hooked up. Then, just to remind himself, he had paged through and read every one just to make sure, and even redone some of the tests to see if he was simply mistaken. "Sorry. Did...you have any other questions?" He glanced at Avril. Whatever suspicions he had had of this place before, they were no longer suspicions. At least in Espen's mind, this place was officially wrong. Very wrong. But the last thing he wanted to do was get himself kicked out before he could figure out what, exactly, was wrong about it.

((Sorry about that, had to do some major studying >.> I'm sure as sure that I will fail the Spanish test.))

Braxien stopped staring and turned to face the man, uttering the words 'sorry' repeatedly. He never really like this job, it was too strict on rules. He decided that he needed to preoccupy his mind and find out what Doubly Mirrored was hiding, they always hid something around science.

"Harley, I'm going off…ya know…searching for the toilets." He gave her a little wink and went on his way. He removed the lab coat, replacing it with a visitor badge he had taken from the receptionist when he was chatting.

Although a couple guards had tried to stop him, he managed to weasel his was out and carry on exploring and what he found wasn't at all out of the normal. It was rooms upon rooms of the same experiments, occasionally he would stumble across a different one but only one in a blue moon.

"What's this?" Braxien sharply turned at the flash of a bright light. He pressed his nose up against the glass of the window, but he was spotted by a guard and forcefully removed.

All the while, he kicked and screamed, hoping to trick the guards into thinking that he was just a visitor. When it didn't work, he found himself outside, staring into the doors of Doubly Mirrored, grumbling about what he could have done better.

Avril raised an eyebrow, watching as the odd man went through the experiments as if there was something to be seen. What did he see happening there? Besides the fact that it lit up, nothing really looked like it was doing anything. That, and it was a bit bright and she didn't want to look at it anymore. Folding her arms over her chest, she looked on with feigned interest as he hooked the doodads up to all the other materials, jotting things down and seeming to be in a rather intense state of mind. Oh, how she wanted to mess with him right now. But he might have had something else to say. He did mention that the objects were moving, but it was quite clear that they were all pretty stationary. So what the bloody hell was he talking about?

Her eyes widened as the thingamabobs were attached to the cube, immediately spotting the ripples in the object. 'But.. how... How does it...' Shaking her head, she frowned at the man, starting to wonder if he was the one playing tricks. 'What's the difference between the whachamacallits? How does it just... do that?' She murmured under her breath, readjusting the goggles and leaning in closer. Hm. His voice snapped her out of her thoughts, bringing her back to reality with his question. 'Um... Hm. Any of this flammable? And, by chance, do any of those happen to be toxic?' Avril gestured at the tubes, an echo of the frown of confusion left on her features.

Espen relaxed his shoulders back and sighed, looking over the block of wood on his workstation. Something here was very, very wrong, but he couldn't tell what, exactly, was wrong yet. He crossed his arms and closed his eyes. And thats when he was asked about the dangerous materials. He shrugged. "Well, even with all the gas tubes in this room you'd still be fine, so long as you didn't inhale it all at once. There isn't enough here to be dangerous." He frowned deeper. "Listen, you're not supposed to be here, are you?" He said quietly, just above a whisper. "Talk to me at lunch. Should be coming up soon. Also, fill out some of those papers. BS it if you want, just put something down. If you leave it blank they might decide that they don't need you here, and if you're as paranoid as I am you'd rather not have then thinking that." He indicated the slowly pulsing block of wood on the desk and tried to push the thoughts out of his mind.

Avril was a bit disappointed at the news, but decided it was better to stick around if he thought it suspicious. What else did she have to do, anyway? Shrugging, she scribbled some answers on the sheet in her nearly-illegible handwriting. Almost perfected it, actually. A bit of tweaking and no one'd be able to read that mess. Once the paper looked just about covered in swirls and lines, she set the clipboard down with a sigh. So much for having fun. It was all just work. Now what was she meant to do? She could fiddle with the objects for a bit, see what she could make happen, but that wouldn't last very long as she was likely to break something in the process. 'What are you all worried about, anyway? It isn't even interesting. And barely science. More like magic, if you ask me...' She murmured, wondering for a moment if he even heard that, while toying with the wooden cube. What would happen if she used one end of one source and one of the other? Probably nothing... but what if it blew up? Hm...
