A change of mind

Darren sat in front of his mirror, that he had stolen from a junk sale. The place he was staying in wasn't big nor expensive but he had managed to get a few side jobs in order to pay for a new suit.

He was checking it out in the mirror, a strange sight it was. Most of his 'career' he was used to cargo pants and a simple top, but he decided to up his game.

RING! RING!

"Yes?…Of course I have done it, what do you take me for? That's okay, don't expect you to live much longer." He snapped the phone shut and headed to 'work.' For most of his life, he never thought he would secure a job but somehow he had, killing was a backseat, plan B, option.

"Morning, Joe."

"Morning, Derek." Said the receptionist.

The thing that had surprised him most was how easy it was to fool these humans into thinking he was not a killer. Many were suspicious of him at first, but they got over it. He was working in a lawyer firm, that meant tight security checks every so often. He usually passed them easily.

"Aston, what do I have today?"

"You have a few cases that you need to sort out…you're more than capable, aren't you?" Darren received a small pat on the back.

RING! RING!

Stares were quickly given but he excused himself and walked outside.

"If you think that I am in a joking mood, you better have something, VERY funny to talk about."

A brief pause, Darren waited for the response, sighing when he got the final response, hanging up quickly and returning to his desk.

Having two jobs were stressful, especially when you were a part-time killer...

Candalynne's TARDIS materialized in an alleyway and she stepped out in a non sleeved denim jacket and she wore a white top underneath that showed off her stomach and she had skinny jeans on that matched with her denim jacket. She smiled happily as she shut and locked the TARDIS door behind her. She put her TARDIS key into her inside pocket and she walked off towards the building and walked in with a fake ID card. "Hello." The receptionist smiled at Candalynne. "How may I help you?" She asked curiously and Candalynne flipped out her fake ID card, it had her face but the details - besides her first name - were fake. "Ah, Candalynne Jones... welcome to the team, I am sure if you go towards that place down the corridor... Derek can help you." The receptionist pointed and Candalynne smiled happily. "Thank you." She walked off down the corridor and towards 'Derek' and his desk. "Hello." She said as she opened up the door and walked in to see a man there at his desk.

Darren turned to see who was the owner to the new voice. It was a woman. "Hello, can I help you with anything?" He looked around, everyone was busy and his lunch break was coming fast, only two hours left, then he could go and do some personal business.

"Sorry, forgetting my manners, aren't I? Derek Blight." He stuck out his hand, a formal introduction, if she was a client. He wasn't sure about her intentions of being here, she didn't seem in any dispute.

Darren spun back around to his desk, typing up an email, secretly doing research on this woman. Overall, she could just be a client looking for help and in that case, he would have to help.

"You local? I mean that because your records …well, you don't seem to have any." He took a glance at her, curious to why, like him, would have something to hide.

"Er, the receptionist said you could help me get used to the place. I am new, you see." Candalynne smiled and shook his hand. "Hello, Derek. I am Candalynne Jones, nice to meet you." She smiled at him gently and she looked around. When he said about her records she blinked before sighing, "I am not local, no." She murmured. "I guess you could say I am... not from around here." She smirked slightly, crossing her arms and looking straight at him. "I was just curious about this place and I guess my ID worked." She smirked even more, she was very good at persuading people that she was in fact... normal. Candalynne was of course not normal because she was a Time Lady, but she looked normal enough.

"I see that." He retorted, smirking slightly. He waved a hand around, and then pointed to himself. "Well, you have come to the right place, this lot would never bother getting off their computers…"

Darren got off his seat and gestured for Candalynne to follow him. He began to take her around the facility, but being a lawyer, he must have made it depressing somehow. "You staying nearby, I could recommend some hotels, but as we are a lawyer firm…do you have anything that needs to be dealt with?"

In five minutes, he would be on his lunch break and hopefully deal with the joker who told him that the shipment would be running late. Plus, get something to eat with the money that he had earn over the two hours that he worked there.

Aston approached him. "Derek, you have a client on line 5? The woman and the rabid alien pet. Could you handle that?"

Darren nodded, pretty sure that he could handle a mad woman with some rabid alien pet. He excused himself, asking Aston to get Candalynne something to drink or eat, and returned to the call.

"John Smith, new employee." he said to the receptionist, flashing a fake ID. "John...ah, there you are. Go right down that hallway, and you'll see a man named Derek. He should should get you started." she said to him. "Great, thanks" he said. The doctor walked down the hallway to find a desk that said Derek, but there was no one there.

"Wow, I'm popular…" He muttered, putting down the phone and standing up to give the new gentleman a handshake. "Hi, Derek Blight. And who might you be?" Darren ruffled his hair with his free hand, an itch starting to develop.

He glanced around, everyone seemed to be directed to him. He was going to be really busy if he needed to get his errands done. It was almost becoming impossible, and to that, he sighed. So who were these people if they weren't here for a law suit? Probably, tourists, but Candalynne didn't have any address or anything that could tell him…anything.

"Okay, you a new client?" He had to blink a few times, knowing a dangerous glint in his eye gave him away at some times, these people might even be undercover agents, trying to 'suss' him out and give a formal confession. He wasn't going to do that, not yet anyway, he still had one big…

Aston came running back to him, fear in his eyes. "There's a helicopter, they want you…I don't know…sorry, oh goodness, what...

Bingo. Right on time. He turned and gave everyone a confused look and a shrug, walking quickly behind Aston.

Candalynne noticed the new man who called himself John Smith. She felt a strange feeling at the back of her head, it was the tingling sensation she would get when another Time Lord was near by and she blinked at the man curiously, she didn't recognize him at all. She shrugged it off and saw Aston say about a helicopter wanting Derek. She smirked slightly and followed behind Derek. "Have any idea why a helicopter would be here for you? Is it one of those surprises that you people do to each other? A prank or something like that?" She asked curiously, she was still new to the 'Human ways'.

"John Smith." the doctor said to Derek, flashing his fake ID. Right then a man came and said something about a helicopter, and Derek walked behind the man. A woman was there too and she was talking to him. He slipped away.Alright then, I guess i'll give myself a tour. he thought to himself. He reached a locked supply closet. And maybe i'll let myself in, as well. he said using his sonic screwdriver on the door. He walked in and closed the door quickly, so no one could see.

"Right, John…Candalynne, I just have to do an errand pretty quick." Darren stepped into the helicopter, had a brief conversation and exited, holding another large briefcase in one hand and a gun in the other.

He noticed a person on their phone, shouting for them to come quickly. Darren turned the gun on the person, but quickly got knocked down by another employee. He turned to face the alien, it sending lightning quick punches to his face, ultimately breaking his nose but otherwise, he wasn't hurt.

A few moments later, the police were on to him, yelling for him to put his hands in the air, dropping the gun and sliding it over to the chief commander.

"Derek Blight, I am arresting you for threatening level 14 behavior. Anything you say will be recorded and used as evidence at court."

Cafrin flipped through her notebook of important invents and sighed. According to the newpaper she was on the right day, but not the right place. Crumpling it up, she began typing the coordinates into her transponder and shimmered away. She opened her eyes to find herself in a closed dark compartment. Cafrin could hear people talking on the other side of the door, but wasn't sure of where she was. "I need to start bringing a bag or something of randomly useful stuff." She complained to herself as she began to try and find a light. She had just reached up and grabbed the string when someone opened the door. "Oh, hi, I have an explanation for this." She told him as she froze.

He walked in, but the light was already on. "Well, looks about nor-who are you?" He said to the woman standing there. Obviously not human... he said to himself. "So, they keep there employees in locked supply closets now? Strange." he said. "Ok. Your obviously not a human. Name, Age, and planet of origin please. He said, pulsing his sonic screwdriver around the room in hope that he would find something.

Standing in the holding cell, Darren leant against the concrete wall, a smirk placed on his face. An alien guard was keeping a few eyes on him, gurgling if it thought Darren was about to do anything out of order.

"So…exactly how long am I going to be kept into this cell?"

At that moment, the large metal door began to unlock and open. Three figures walked in, two policemen and an inspector.

"You lied to us…Your name is Darren Hughes, the famed serial killer…" The inspector leant close to the bars of the cells. "Tell us, why did you lie to us in the first place?"

Darren rolled his eyes, giving them an exasperated sigh but continued to stare at the opposite wall. The guard unlocked his cell, the two policemen took him roughly by the arms, taking him into be charged for his crimes.

He stood in the box, waiting for the court case to start. Many faces looked at him, expressionless. They reminded him of himself.

"Darren Hughes, you are charged on the…"

But Darren wasn't listening, his thoughts whirling around his head. The urge to kill was back for good, he wouldn't be able to shake it…he opened his eyes, menacingly looking at the judge, who tried to hide his gulp. Darren raised both eyebrows, simply stepping out of the box.

Everyone in the court gave a collective gasp.

"Sorry, not today…" Darren walked out of the room, a button in his hand.

BOOM!

The room erupted in flames, oh how he missed this. He was waiting for the right moment to strike, this was his chance. He walked away, chuckling to himself.

Cafrin laughed at his comments before they sunk in fully. This man reminded her of someone, but she wasn't sure exactly who. He wasn't human either, but what was he? She wondered, moving away from the door. Her mind went frantic when he pulled out the Sonic Screwdriver. "Oh, my, you must be... um.. but you cant be...." She spoke, trying to piece together everything. She was there to help the Doctor, not some imposter. "I wouldn't tell you my name if it was the last thing I could do." She told him, looking directly at him. I remember him, but I'm not sure where from....Who is he? "Who are you?"
