There was always that niggling truth at the back of ones mind, that drew down the occasional reminder: that all things come to an end. Be they good or bad made no difference in this mad world they lived in, only that everything had a birth and most certainly a death. Although there was no actual way to determine that he was actually dead, there was also no way to tell where he had gone. For it were as though the ninth doctor had fallen completely off the face of the planet, out of the galaxy and beyond the Universe. No amount of pleading and calling got through to him, and suddenly Ramona was forced to face the fact that he was not coming back. It was completely unfair. Thus is how Ramona Rigby Eden found herself on a flight to Scotland, twenty-first century on behalf of a beloved ally from the past.

A last minute favor after the discovery of the missing doctor and the broken condition of his forgotten lady. Jack always was a sucker for brunettes...Milera, her precious daughter, had taken the news of nine's disappearance hard and only weeks before vanished. Ramona knew not of the childs where-abouts and frankly it terrified the wild woman. The twenty-first century, this world contained so many memories she had thought long forgotten, this was the time she originally hailed from. Seeing the familiar sky-scrapers and weather-worn cities made her realize how much she had missed this place and it brought tears to the woman's watery eyes. Nothing she did, it seemed, would lessen the pain. It was a constant, dull ache at the back of her gut, nestled comfortably against the base of her spine like a bomb- waiting. She struggled, she cried, she screamed and broke things, it was a few days earlier she had decided a vacation of sorts was in order.

Carrying only what she could carry on her own, Ramona had left the bustling streets of New York once more, telling herself 'I'll be back,' but she would not. She would never go back.Never, never. Ever. She needed something new, she needed something strong, stronger than the most bitter alcohol to stimulate her senses, her nerves. For she was very numb, and she looked every bit the part of a grieving widow as she curled up within the crowded plane-seat, and hid her face from the world.--Scotland was completely unknown to her, a foreign entity like the planets that the doctor had taken her to. So alien was this country that she required a literal 'guide,' all the way to her hotel room where the bright man set her up for a week, and finally left. Ramona lifted a lip at the man as he returned her weak sneer with a full-blown look of disdain.

So much for good-samaritans.Her room consisted of the barest fillings, a short table, a mini-fridge, a twin-sized bed and a television. Naturally all of these things were compacted into cleverly designed cubbies with the intention of looking bigger than they were, but Ramona could hardly bring herself to care. Not even bothering to use the bathroom, the woman dropped her belongings onto the bed and just as quickly left again, tucking the room keys securely into her bra. "Breakfast, breakfast, breakfast..." she muttered in a monotonous mantra down nine flights of stairs for both elevators were conveniently full. Food was the foremost on her mind, fixing her issues could come second in this case.

Dageus muttered under his breath as he side-stepped another of those dratted contraptions his cousins had called 'cars'. Narrowing his steely gaze along the street, the highlander ran a hand through his hair in frustration. His original plan was to go into town and acquaint himself with the surroundings, to try and get used to how this century worked before he attempted to find a place of his own. In truth, he already planned on taking the keep his brother had made ages ago while he still lived on the edge of their land, but couldn't bring himself to walk through the doors just yet. Too many memories were fresh, the last thing he wanted or needed was to be reminded of what he lost.

Shaking his head, Dageus strode along the sidewalk, the crowds of people parting in front of him due to his size. Without caring where he went, he tucked his hands into the pockets of his leather trews, grey eyes settling onto a small building with the word 'Restaurant' in bold planted above it's doorway, the smell of food making his mouth water. One of the things this century had to offer was unique foods from different places around the world, he didn't think he'd ever tire of sampling the odd foods from other countries for as long as he lived in this time.

Warm nuggets settled at the bottom of her stomach, washed down with something similar to soda but not quite, a home-made soda-water sort of thing. It was not bad and so she sat there at the bar, arms crossed and red fingers toying with the straw of her second fill of the stuff. There were few people visiting the hotel restaurant this morning and Ramona was glad for this, taking note of those bold occupants before minding her own. The waitress, a bushy eyed thing called 'Benny,' was talkative and out-going, making an effort on her customers where the guide had not. The wild woman could only smile and revel at the loosening of her tongue as she found herself regaling the busy girl with stories she would not believe. Benny found them enjoyable all the same and Ramona felt a tingling at the back of her eyes, nerves.

She had never been the chatty type and yet here she was, spilling out tale after tale of ridiculous jaunts and adventures to some random stranger. Benny clearly thought her jesting and Ramona allowed her to continue thinking this, most normal people, if they were normal, did not take as kindly to change as a select few. Ramona had finally taken it upon herself to silence the flow of useless information with three re-fills of the mystery soda-water. Taking guilty pleasure knowing that Benny had moved on to the newest patron, gushing in a bubbly manner about her latest engagement to the man of her dreams.

Ramona scowled and ducked her head as the bell, signaling an outside arrival, was sent into a fit.

"I swear the doorways have been made narrower as the years passed." Dageus muttered to himself, eyes narrowed as he shouldered himself into the room, his mouth twisting into a slight grimace before straightening up to his full height again, causing a nearby woman gape at him as he walked by. Turning his grey eyes onto her, he twisted the corners of his mouth up into a slight smirk, silently amused by the way her face turned bright red before turning away from him. 'Lass's of this time, so easy to embarrass.' Shaking his head slightly, he made his way over to the bar and carefully sat on the stool there, aware of the light groan of protest from the seat below.

"Anything you'd like?" The waitress asked, her eyes raking over his frame before settling on his face with a wide smile. Dageus turned and flashed her his usual smile, a hand running over his hair again before replying. "Aye, an ale if ye have one. Strongest ye have." He rumbled, once more amused by her slight lash of surprise at the thickness of his accent before turning and hurrying away.

She could remember as though it were yesterday the circumstances upon meeting the doctor. It was a spun fairy-tale of girl run into boy and then boy drag girl off and tease her into eventually getting into his outdated telephone box. Although not the most... conventional way to get to know someone, it had ended in a love so profound and powerful that Ramona was sure she would burst at the memory. Which in reality had not been so long ago.

This meeting, was nothing like that. This meeting was unwanted and unexpected, it was stupidly tall, broad-shouldered and strong-jawed. Rugged brown hair invaded his vision and required a healthy dose of hand-to-scalp motivation to move, and suddenly the giant was setting beside her. Ramona could not contain the shock at how huge this man truly was, at his side she was made to look much smaller than she already was. Without much thought Ramona hid herself mental self from the man, something... something about him bothered her as he threw way-ward smiles at the other women. His accent was thick, thick... thick and- thick and what? She stopped twirling her straw and narrowed honey-gold eyes at him, not bothering to hide her suspicion. Though he paid her no heed Ramona took an obscene amount of time looking him over, for his entire self was off in some way. Human she was in every sense of the word, if you wanted to ignore the fact that she was over four-hundred years old, grey-haired with red stained extremeties and did not look a day over thirty. It was this oddness that struck her about the man, this strangeness that caused her to lean forward and sniff cautiously at his clothing. She sat back in confusion, smoke, soot and age invaded her senses and suddenly she was stiff spined and sucking vigorously at her soda-water.

Feeling a faint tickle of just thought brought Dageus's attention to the slight lass beside him, her hair and skin immediately catching his attention. It was obvious to anyone who looked at her, she lived a hard life, but to someone with eyes trained like his, she lived through hell and was still struggling to escape. Leaning over slightly, he studied her for a moment, not caring if she saw him staring as he narrowed his grey eyes in her direction, chin resting on his hand while the elbow rested comfortably on the bar counter. Without turning his head, he thanked the serving woman when she set the mug down in front of him.

"Ye look troubled, Lass. Anything that could be, perchance, dangerous?" He finally rumbled out, lifting the mug to his lips and taking a hearty swig from it before grimacing slightly and setting it aside. He still couldn't find an ale strong enough to even be considered an ale anymore, one thing that burnt his patience for the time he found himself stuck in. "I'd offer you have been through hell, but 'tis obvious to anyone who cares to look." He added, an eyebrow raising up to vanish behind the fringe of his hair that dangled just before his eyes.

The woman had sniffed his clothes, sniffed them for jesu's sake. Not very often he met a lass with the gall to even be close enough to touch him, much less smell him. Running a finger along his lower lip in thought, Dageus studied her curiously, taking in the sad cloud that seemed to hang around her like an aura.

His accent was so thick, thick and old, a dusty mote in the thousands of people that might wander through that front door. He said she looked troubled, she was. He wagered it was a dangerous sort, he was wrong. Unless he turned out to be a shape-shifting alien on the hunt for time-lord DNA of any sort, then in that case he had just walked into the wrong hotel. Ramona eyed him curiously, her face a stone wall of collected suspicion and distrust, leaning ever so away from him. "What's it to you? You don't know me," - while she had just sniffed his arm.

Finally she broke away from the bar, hand coming up to shuffle nervously through her hair, grey so grey it was nearly silver under the watery light from the ceiling. He was too friendly, to open, to familiar while being guarded at the same time, a concoction that gave her the idea that he was hiding something. Or was that really it? He was obviously hiding something and yet laid himself out in plain sight. With her mind addled Ramona frowned at the man "not from around here are you." She stated it matter-of-factly, staring at a pair of warm grey eyes that shifted from icy to cozy in the breadth of a million seconds. Ever-changing, confusing, mis-leading, she felt like her head was going to explode just looking at him.

Dageus tipped his head back and laughed, actually laughed for the first time in months. "Aye, I'm from around here, Lass. Hardly close to my home I might add." He rumbled, amusement dancing in his eyes as he looked back at her, a wide smile flashing his white teeth at her before lifting the mug to his lips and choking down another mouthful of the awful brew. "Come, tell me, why do you sit alone in Scotland? A lass like yourself should be on the arm of a man." Leaning forward again, he completely ignored the fact that she obviously wanted space, he was so used to using his body to intimidate people it came naturally to him.

"Aye, if I had a lass like yourself, I'd not share you with the world." He added in a low voice, his eyes roaming over her hair and tipping his head to the side idly while he studied her. "'Tis obvious you're alone, a woman like you ought to smile at the sun and outshine it with it's beauty." Nodding to himself, he sat back and pulled out a wad of bills, frowning down at the numbers as he struggled to find the right one. Finally, giving up, he simply pulled several out and plunked them on the counter before standing once more. "Come, 'tis my duty to make a lass smile when she is saddened by something from her past." Dageus said idly, holding out a hand to her and smiling once more.

Ramona stared at him for the longest time, unmoving as he went through the motions. She felt like she was watching some horribly cliche soap-opera where this man was involved, suddenly he was looking down at her, choking back his ale while laying it on. Thick. All of him was thick and in that moment she realized why he confused her so much- she did not like him. At all.

Despite this enlightenment she was startled as the man rose from his seat, pushing it back with seemingly nothing as he finished his drink, got upset with his money, and then offered her a hand. Offered her a hand to happiness. Happiness, he wanted her to be happy? He wanted to see her smile shoot past the sun and into the cosmos? He was a few hundred years late for that, she had been there and done that. Listening to him trip through a well-worn charade made Ramona visibly scowl, not bothering to veil the dislike to screw up her face. There had been a point where she would have struck out at him without a second thought, hit him, said something rude and ran away. Hiding like the frightened and unsociable girl she had been. In this scenario she followed suit, slipping down from her chair to face him, and be painfully reminded of how petite she was compared to he.

She did not touch him, did not take his hand and did not smile. What she did do was motion him toward the door before exiting herself, blanching at the off-key tinkling of the bell. She barely registered a farewell from Benny before twisting around to confront this terrible demon.

Raising an eyebrow, Dageus followed the woman out, idly nodding at the serving woman as he passed her on his way through the door with a grimace. "Doors, always doors." He muttered, his words barely hard through his accent before straightening back up and staring down at her with another bright smile. In truth, he didn't know what to make of her, the slight woman in front of him, scowling up at his face as if she prepared herself to face down an army. "Do ye have a name?" He finally thought to ask curiously, his head tipped to the side again as he looked down at her scowling face.

Reaching up, he brushed the hair from his face once more, silently cursing himself for not thinking to bring a tie with when he left earlier that morn. "Perhaps it would be better manners to offer my name first?" He mumbled as she stood there silently glaring at him for a few moments, suddenly feeling awkward. "Dageus MacKeltar, at your service, lass." He said idly, flashing her another smile as he tipped his head formally in her direction. Honestly, how could a face like hers scowl so long without becoming stuck in that position? He ached to do something to make her smile, but in all honesty, he sensed his charm wouldn't work on her.

She gave him the courtesy of at least revealing his name, now she would have something to scream when she hovered over him. Dageus, what sort of name was that? Scottish no doubt and she found that she did not like it. She did not like a lot about this man. In fact she disliked almost everything about this man and Ramona was just a tad surprised, even for her. She had come to this place to start anew, it was her first day for biscuits sake! Here she was acting no better than Alexei, facing off with a man three times her size and expecting to win. If he were here he would be trying to calm things down, throw out a childish quip to lighten the mood and take her anger off of the stranger. Then he would proceed to harass the stranger about every part of his life that did not make sense to the doctor, and thinking such things lessened the scowl on her face. What place had this person in her mind? None.

Ramona sneezed, the braid at her back flinched at the sudden motion and just as quickly as she had sneezed, the small girl let loose. His size was a considerable advantage over her, but without knowing she was going to strike at him would logically put him off balance. Thus giving her the upper hand, which is how it started. Small hands jerked forward and shoved with as much force as she could muster, tiny she may have been to him, it was only a fool who would underestimate the strength of one who had lived in the dark. Ramona was not the epitome of powerful, but she was a creature of lithe muscle and quick wits, sharp eyes and equally as sharp movements. Screw Dageus MacKeltar! She was Ramona Eden, lover to the greatest man known throughout time and space and mother to an alien hybrid. What did he think he had on her? And how dare he assume such pretentious things when he did not even know her.

He messed with the wrong woman this day.

Blinking in utter surprise, Dageus looked down at her as she attempted to shove him away. The suddeness of her attack sent him back a small step before he resumed his stance, eyebrows raised up as high as they would go as he stared at her. Before she could shove him again, he reached out and grasped her wrists, his hands encircling them like steel bands and holding them tight enough so she couldn't get free, but loose enough not to hurt her by accident. "I've never harmed a woman in my life, lass. But ye sorely tempt my patience with your unprovoked attack. If ye are angry at something in your life, then so be it, lash out. But warn a mon first before ye attempt to shove him away." He chided softly, his voice dropping to a dangerous pitch as his eyes glittered with barely leashed frustration.

"'Tis hardly right for a lass like ye to attack a mon my size, but if ye look for a fight, I'd gladly give one." He added dryly, quiet amusement quickly replacing the frustration as he spoke. "If ye wish to scream, I can take ye to the open fields of my lands so no one can hear. But never push a mon that has only shown you curtesy and kindness since he met ye."

"Oh quit being all stupid and forthwith and I'm so nice and-" Almost quicker than she could really register, her wrists had been taken, gripped like iron-shackles. The pain was atrocious, horrible, so painful that she took up a sharp and garbled keening that seemed very unnatural. Her mind shifted in a myriad of colors, the spectrum of the Universe at her fingertips as vague shapes, colors, images and feelings exploded against her mind. Everything was coming so fast, the images, the colors getting brighter and sharper with every panicked breath. Ramona found that she was jerking madly against his grip, frantic, desperate to escape him, his touch, his everything. Was he a time lord? He couldn't be! She knew the tell-tale twinges of those alien minds and his was definitely not one of them, and yet the whirlwind of memories and mental pictures were impossibly strong. So strong and sudden that he did naught but cause her pain, immense pain, so much so that she forgot and forgave herself for whatever she might have wanted to do.

Just let go! 'Let go!' she shrieked in her mind, she was older than him, she was far more experienced than him in matters such as these. And she suspected, as she strove to get her message across to him, that he did not realize what was happening. That he might not even know what he was doing to her, for it was possible he was not doing anything all, and that the barren landscape of her mental pond had bitten off more than it could chew. Too long, it had been too long since the touch of the doctors mind, no drifts of silver to be found anywhere. His icy presence was very gone.

But now there was his, it was suffocating and Ramona was utterly terrified. Real tears exploded from wet, hazel eyes and chased angry, pained trails down her cheeks.

Jerking his hands away from her wrists, Dageus stood there flabbergasted at the woman's reaction. The second he touched her, she seized up and jerked as if in pain, again there was that tickle of thought in the back of his mind but he didn't realize what it was until just then. "Ye... Ye are a seer?" He finally managed to get out, his lips numb with shock as he looked her over once more. She didn't carry an air of one, much less her eyes, they weren't the right color at all. Looking around quickly, he debated on what to do before coming to a decision. Reaching into his pocket, he pulled out the work gloves his cousin insisted he take with in case he found work in town.

Jerking them on quickly, he held them out so the lass could see he covered his skin. "Ye have no experience, do ye?" He murmured quietly, studying her face and reaching up instinctively to wipe away one of the tears with a frown. "Who taught ye? Who told ye how to connect?" He asked in the same soft voice, striving to keep it from pressing and making her even more upset. With frustration evident in his eyes, he looked around quickly before offering his gloved hand once more. "Come, I need open fields to think, and I think 'tis would be a wonderful thing for ye, too." He added, unable to keep the hopeful tone from his voice. He'd had enough of the buildings, of the cars and people.

It was a sweet relief when his hands disappeared, a relief that only reached that far. Her mind on the other hand was reeling with what it saw, the information that raced in haphazard circles there, the colors, so many colors. Sharp and vivid, so hot she felt as though her head was burning and a pain etched it's way into the backs of her eyes, she blinked rapidly. He was old, he was old like the doctor but not alien. He was a natural sort of old that she had no experience with, nor any knowledge of. Druids, magic, swords, that was the stuff of fairy tales and story-books, not actual bodies wandering the streets of Scotland. Nothing made sense, a flash of metal made her flinch as she finally looked up at the man. She trembled much like a leaf if you must, despite the donning of gloves and his concerns she was scared, scared of him, what he might have been. She did not understand him, maybe if he were not from this world she could have settled down and accepted some of the facts.

But he was human, so painfully and beautiful human.

Robin was human, she was an experiment gone wrong.

This man was human, born of the human world and raised in a place filled with fantasy and lore that Ramona was desperate to disbelieve. Everything was spinning, slow and calculated circles as she struggled to wrap the foil of her mental shields around it all. He reached a hand for her, and she stared at it like a deer caught in headlights. A seer? What was that? Images cropped up from the word, responding to his voice and yet she did not get what she saw. They made no sense. He wanted to take her away, take her somewhere not here, somewhere open and wild. Did he want to kill her? Was being this seer breed a bad thing? No, she was no breed of anything. She was an unfortunate accident on the doctors behalf, and now a sufferer of all things on the mental-plane of existence. She did not take his hand, but she did nod her head and signal her acquiesce to follow, if not for the glittering token of intense curiosity to rear its head underneath it all.

    Dageus MacKeltar. Who was he?

Dageus turned and started walking along slowly, taking care to keep at a slow pace so the lass could keep up with his strides. "I'll explain everything, lass. I promise, but until we leave this... This city." He grimaced at the word before looking straight ahead once more, determined to stay calm for the wisp of a woman beside him. "I canno' think straight. Once we reach the hills of my lands, I should feel relaxed enough to explain what ye saw." he finished awkwardly, grey eyes darting over to look at her out of the corner, she seemed frightened of him now, making the Highlander sigh inwardly.

It seemed no matter what year he traveled to, Druids were viewed with distrust and fear rather than as a normal person. Setting his jaw against the thought, he stared ahead of them in silence, leading her through the streets until he finally brought them out into open land, causing his shoulders to relax from being strung tightly. Rolling them lightly, he tipped his head back and breathed in the fresh air greedily. "Ah, much better..."Dageus rumbled, his spirits already perking up at the scent of heather on the air and the sight of rolling hills before him rather than grey concrete and noisy cars all around.

Ramona followed him for a ridiculous amount of time, so long in fact that by the time they arrived, and the great Dageus stopped: it had begun a soft drizzle and she almost had the gall to feel irritated. Watching him stretch and roll his shoulders though, returned perspective to what had just transpired not an hour before, and Ramona remained silent and steadfast.

She was afraid, she knew this and the longer she stared at him she wondered if he understood why. Probably not, and she was awful at explaining complicated things to people. It was clear that these seers were of common stock from wherever he hailed and she was not quite up to par with what he knew. In this regard they were the same while being polar opposites, for she was not a common face among the people of this planet, let along general society. But he seemed to have mistaken her for such and she knew that a hefty explanation would be due by the time he finished.

Was she prepared to really listen to him? Was she ready to hear the history of a man who could make sense of the madness boiling under her skull? Ramona was not really sure anymore. At least not where this Dageus was concerned.

Turning to look fully at her once more, he extended a hand in her direction, a slight smile flashing across his face. "Come, Lass. The keep is but a few miles, and if ye continue to stand here, 'tis most assured ye will catch a cold." He said idly, then shrugged out of the jacket he wore, draping it around her shoulders before turning and walking off across the grass, not bothering to wait for her hand this time. Turning his thoughts inward, he frowned at the grass while he strode along towards the keep, his eyes not really seeing the land around him.

She was a seer, but not a seer, he couldn't wrap his mind around the fact. It was obvious she saw something when they touched. Turning to look over his shoulder, he studied her once more, unable to hide the frown on his face. "Lass, I'm not sure ye even told me your name." He finally called to her, idle amusement quickly masking the searching look that had been on his face. "'Tis hardly fair to have a mon at such a disadvantage." He added, a teasing note in his voice before turning back around and throwing his head back to admire the beauty around him, trying to forget the taxing woman that followed him. She certainly was a puzzle, one he looked forward to figuring out when they were safely inside the keep and out of the rain.

He worried about the rain and other things, she could see it written in the lines of his face. But as though he could feel her looking he was suddenly cheerful, chipper and less grievous as he had been since their short encounter before. She could not restrain a shudder of disease as he draped a jacket upon her shoulders, a dark jacket with cotton lining, and she choked on bile. It looked a lot like his jacket and she wanted more than anything to cut the thing to pieces, shred it before his eyes and laugh at his confusion and anger. She wanted these things and imagined them in her head, but as she slowly began to trail in his wake she knew she would not. She would not lay a finger upon that jacket if she did not have to, which was enough to make Ramona snivel privately and fight back tears.

She wished he was here, she wished that he would come and whisk her off of her feet and tell her it was alright. Give her a story grand and exuberant full of danger and details she would squander away for a late-night tale to her daughter. Ramona bit her lip until blood leaked on her tongue and she dabbed at the split, no need to make him feel anymore manly than he already did. His chivalry was beyond disturbing and it bothered her to no end, she hated being waited on, hated the careful look he viewed her with, the gentle way he handled her. She wasn't a gentle creature, she was a fighter, a predator that could do away with him in the night should she really choose it. Something she was more frequently contemplating. Alas her thoughts were disrupted by the peaking crowns of what looked like a stone safe-hold, Ramona cocked her chin and blew at the wet hair against her forehead, to no avail.

She looked at him and understanding came to her. Still, she was distrusting of this man and balked just a little, putting more distance between them. He seemed intent on getting her name and she was more insistent than ever on not giving it to him. Her response to his query was the clenching of her jaw and a challenging glint in her eyes.

Looking at her stern face, Dageus chuckled and shook his head, his hair flopping from side to side and sending a spray of water from it. "Aye, you are a taxing lass." He sighed and turned back to the keep, trudging towards it, already thinking of warm chambers and food to fill his belly. Once they reached the outlying gates, he reached out and pressed the button situated next to them, waiting until the tell-tale buzz that notified the lock being disengaged before pushing them open and walking towards the keep.

Just as he reached the bottom of the stairs leading up to the door, it was flung open followed by a blur of arms and legs that bolted outside and jumped into his arms. "Uncle Dageus! Uncle Dageus!" A small boy cheered happily, clambering around the taller man like his favorite jungle gym. "Calen, does your mother know ye ran out into the rain." Dageus asked wryly, plucking the boy off of his back and holding him out at arm's length with a wide grin on his face. "Calen MacKeltar! You get your butt inside right this moment! You'll catch your death outside!" A woman yelled from the door, making the Highlander look up and grin at his cousin. "Aye, the lad needs some discipline I think. Perchance a week of mucking the stables?" He asked conversationally, looking down at the boy with a raised eyebrow as he wriggled in his arms.

"No no! I was just excited!" Calen called as Dageus tucked the child under his arm and lumbered up the steps to hand him off to his mother. "In you go, Lad. 'Tis too cold for ye." Turning to look back at the woman behind him, he tipped his head towards the open door. "After ye, lass. 'Tis warmer inside, with food and drink I'd wager as well."

They came upon the keep with little to no preamble and she surprised, not that she should have been. Although she could not help the twinge of curiosity that such a place would be in the middle of nowhere, if you counted some miles outside of the nearest town 'the middle of nowhere.' Ramona once again shifted her head as the man called Dageus pressed some buttons and a green light peered out through the misty rain, suddenly a motor rumbled to life. Smooth and silent, like a cat, a door came open and out came the gangly limbs of a boy. A woman's harried shouts and Dageus' gentle chiding made her uncomfortable, she had been exposed to a family moment, clearly. She was never good at family moments excluding her own.

She averted dark, hazel eyes until she was summoned. Deep and willing Dageus insisted she go inside and Ramona stopped, twenty feet from the entrance where the scots-man awaited her. There was a feeling twisting about in her gut, something along the nature of cautious pride, willing her to hold her ground and not give in. If she entered the mans home than she was a slave to his law, and she would rebel, and nothing good would come of that. There was a child to be had and no child should see or hear the exchange of angry words. She had a strong suspicion things would come to such, for it would appear as though she and Dageus held very different opinions.

Not quite knowing what, Ramona hesitantly dipped her head, shifting her arms against her torso with every effort to touch the jacket as little as possible. She clenched her jaws and shivered, breaking into a short trot before the roasting warmth of a wood-fueled home enveloped her. Gods it had been a very long time indeed since suffering the hospitality of a good old-fashioned wood-stove, Ramona was to slow to hide the smile on her face at the discovery.

Allowing his tense muscles to relax, Dageus followed her inside and shut the doors securely behind them. He had a fleeting thought she might have ran off for just a moment before she went inside, it made him uneasy with how nervous she was around him. Walking up behind her, he hesitated for a moment, simply taking in her appearance before plucking the jacket from her shoulders and hanging it on one of the pegs nearby to let it dry.

Without saying a word, he passed her and walked into the greatroom, welcoming the heat the enveloped him and turned his attention to his cousin. "A towel for her hair, Lass. She's near shivering." He murmured quietly to her before turning to look at the woman still standing near the door. Just as she ran off, Makale walked in his broad shoulders, appearance and build reminding him painfully of his brothers. "Cousin, I wondered when you'd make your way back. The rain's been falling for about a hour now."

Dageus nodded in the direction of the woman silently before sitting in one of the large chairs next to the fire. "The lass is a seer." He said in a quiet voice so only Makale could hear, causing the younger man to turn and look her over idly before seating himself across from Dageus just as his wife came back in with a towel. "Here, hun, this ought to make you feel a little better." She said brightly, her London accent in strong contrast with her husband's and cousin's. "Dageus isn't the best when it comes to remembering a woman's needs. I swear, their family alone is helpless unless a woman shows up to remind them they need to take a bath now and again."

"He isn't the best at a lot of things" she mumbled quietly as the woman passed her a towel. Watching beneath a fringe of wet, dark grey bangs Ramona kept a close eye on the giant, whom had been joined by another giant. She was beginning to see a trend when it came to this man and was not sure if she liked it, being the smallest being in the whole household was not high on her priority list. In fact being in this household was not very high on that list and Ramona pursed her lips. "You guys live here? with great effort, and fleeting glances, Ramona forced herself to turn toward the woman. Using the towel she began the arduous process of drying the rope of her hair and the cotton of her clothing, although that task was practically impossible with the strip of cloth she had been given. Towels were only good for so much.

She squeezed her eyes shut and bent over to scrub hard at her scalp, drawing and tugging more hair loose from the braid and before she was finished there was hardly a braid left. With hair sticking at every which angle the woman pressed damp palms to her head in an attempt to control it, which clearly was not happening. So with a reluctant sigh she moved on to her legs, picking distractedly at her shoe soles while she did so.

"Oh yes, the house has been passed down through the generations." The woman said brightly, seating herself next to Ramona as she spoke, a wide smile on her face as she turned to look over at Dageus and her husband with love in her eyes. "My name's Samantha, by the way." She added almost as an afterthought while turning back to her with a distracted smile on her face. Calen peeked around the edge of the doorway, his eyes landing immediately on his uncle and grinned brightly.

Before his mother could stop him, he launched himself across the room at the larger man, attaching himself to one of his arms and attempted to drag him from the chair onto the floor. Momentarily distracted from his talk with Makale, Dageus laughed and hoisted the boy up into the air with an amused smile on his face. "Attacking with the hope of a surprise attack only works when ye doona let out a war cry, lad." He said wryly, his head shaking in mock sorrow before putting him back on his feet and standing on his own. Turning his grey eyes on the sight of Samantha and Ramona sitting side by side, he flashed them a bright smile. "I doona know about ye, lass. But I think food would be in order."

Makale got to his feet and clapped Dageus on the shoulder as he passed him on the way to help his wife to her feet. "Come on then, roast lamb, garlic potatoes and some corn would be in order." He proclaimed brightly, offering a smile in Ramona's direction before heading out the door, their son running after them with the prospect of food acting as a leash. Stopping beside her, Dageus gazed down at Ramona with a wry smile on his face. "They tend to not see strangers, only friends, Lass." He said in an apologetic voice, broad shoulders lifting up in a slight shrug before gesturing towards the door for her to go first.

Ramona watched the interactions with narrowed eyes, only partly listening to the woman- no, Samantha. She could not stop herself from glancing back at Dageus, an unprecedented fear of the man had her nerves singing and instincts on edge. Her mind screamed at her from all four corners and it was a visible effort to keep it at bay, the man was taking his sweet time and Ramona was ready to box his ears. She was in no mood to coo and awe at the sickly sweet adoration between husband and wife, she only hoped she would not have to suffer meeting the giants own wife. Friendship was not what she wanted right now, food did not sound much better as the group broke off into their appropriate families and she was left with Dageus coming to her side. Strangers, friends, what was the actual difference? You could trust a stranger as easily as a friend without ever knowing their name. This she knew from personal experience, she frowned.

"Sure," biting back further insult Ramona stood reluctantly, clutching the towel close, hiding behind the familiar web of drying grey hair in her face. She motioned for him to lead on and within a few minutes of ignoring her surroundings she found herself within a room of grand design yet simple trimmings. Although the table was handsome and well-cut, made of a homely wood of red and deep browns, like a soft chocolate to her eyes. It was bare yet save for the beginnings of plates and silverware to be making an appearance, Samantha seemed perfectly content to bustle around in aide of the meal. Ramona could remember doing similar things for she and Milera, suddenly tears sparked against her eyes and the petite creature shook her head to send them away.

She would not even try to think about her now, she dared not.
