Lost and Found

Clara gave Theta a small nod and removed her hand from the Doctor's back. "Yeah, that would be great. But our first problem..." she said while pointing at the door. "Is getting out of here alive."

The Doctor walked up to the console, still silent in thought, and pushed a few buttons. He turned on the TARDIS shield, and the outside of the blue box was enveloped in a tinted blue bubble of sorts.

"Ok" Thete clapped his hands, looking between the two inquisitively "so...have any ideas on how to defeat daleks? Cause we never had any where I came from. Left dalek fighting 101 out of the Academy curriculum...they're obviously inside those machines, but I doubt a race that intelligent would just be defeated by some sonic screwdrivers. If we could disable their personal shields somehow...or even just the guns would be nice. I don't want to regenerate yet, and getting hit by one of their guns wouldn't help that cause"

"They don't just have a gun, it's a type of laser. Which means instant death for humans...and almost inevitable regeneration for us." the Doctor said solemnly. "A high sonic frequency would confuse them for a moment, so we could use that for now."


Clara pondered the solution for a moment and furrowed her eyebrows. "Good idea, but we don't know that'll work with these Cyber-Dalek hybrids."

"Wait, they are cyber hybrids, aren't they? Well, I have plenty of experience with Cybermen, and if I've learned anything about them, it's that a 201 Hz frequency makes them, ahh...well, they don't like it, I can tell you that. But wait, these are daleks, not the kind of life forms inside the Cybermen..." Theta paced back and forth, thinking, muttering complex math equations under his breath, slipping into Gallifreyan at times. His eyes lit up "Aha! I got it! Daleks are of a larger mass and different composition that cybermen in the organic aspect. So the frequency would have to be raised to a factor of 3 megahertz in order to account for that aspect. However, the frequency would have to be lowered ten to the fifth...no fourth, in account with the fact that dalek exteriors aren't as transmittable as Cybermen exteriors. So as long as I'm not totally messing up my equations, then a frequency of 812 Hz should work against them! Rassilon, that's high...I hope the sonic can reach that"

Theta flipped out his sonic screwdriver, fiddling with the controls on it. There was a quick, high pitched buzzing, before it disappeared out of the Timelord range of hearing. It raised and raised and raised, only noticeable through the faintest headache. There were some metallic yells of the daleks outside, a boom, then all was silent. Theta turned the sonic off, inching over to the door cautiously.

"...you think it worked?"

Clara stood there with her mouth slightly open to say something, but shook her head as Theta rambled on. "Let's see." She strode towards the door next to Theta and opened it an inch. The spaces between the heads of their metal suits and the bodies had smoke pouring out of them, and their eyestalks were dim. "That'll buy us some time!" Clara walked over with the Doctor in tow and placed a finger on one of the metal orbs that were arranged on their bodies. Quickly, she pulled her hand away and stuck her finger into her mouth, sucking on it. "Ow! I think you fried the little devils."

Theta grinned, bouncing out of the blue box.

"Oh, really?? It worked! I didn't think it'd actually work! But it did!" He strode up to one of the smoking daleks and looked it over curiously. If it wasn't so hot right now, he'd even take the head off and buzz the data core, see how it works, maybe open up the compartment and see if the dalek itself got fried or if it was only the suits that did.

The Doctor whipped out his own sonic screwdriver and scanned the burnt Dalek. "No, you didn't kill them." Unfortunately... He walked away from the area and started scanning the walls of the warehouse. "Cybermat." he muttered, and lunged to the floor, capturing a small silver creature beneath his hands. Gotcha, you little bugger! The Doctor walked back to  Clara, carrying the wriggling metal creature, and handed it to her. "Hold that for a second..."

Clara held it grudgingly and stumbled as the strong device struggled to get out of her hands. "I-I don't think I can hold it much...longer." she stammered as it latched onto her arm. "Disable it please!"

Theta quickly pointed his sonic screwdriver at the device in Clara's hands, buzzing it. It did something, though it wasn't what Theta had been hoping.

It lunged at him.

He stumbled backwards and fell on his back, struggling to keep the little machine and it's sharp teeth away from his face. It must have been 'upgraded' with dalek technology, rendering the setting he usually used for Cybermats useless...well, aside from making it realize that he was the one who knew how to disable it. If only he could get to his sonic...he looked sideways, where it lay a few feet away, having rolled after he dropped it. Not that he would be able to work it, anyways, seeing as his hands were kind of full at the moment. He reeled back as it made a particularly large flail in his hands, sliding a bit closer to escape. Rassilon, it was angry.

"Gah! Clara, quick, grab my sonic and set it to, er..." tug, even closer "I don't know! Just mess with it a bit and hope for the best!"

Clara sprinted to the sonic device, sliding to the floor to grab it. She inspected it and pointed it at the Cybermat, pushing one of the buttons. It didn't work. She tried a number of different settings, but it only made the Cybermat angrier. Clara gave up and grabbed the Cybermat by the tail and flung it against the concrete wall. It fell to the floor and twitched, electricity sparking in its eyes, then went still. She rubbed her hands on her jeans. "Sorry, don't really know how to work those things."

Theta breathed heavily, sitting up and putting a hand between his hearts. His eyes were wide and his face was pale.

"Th-thanks" he shook his head "Ugh, I hate those things; nothing that small should be allowed to be so dangerous. Honestly, they look like little kid's toys till they try biting your face off"

He stood, brushing off his tweed and bending down to retrieve his sonic. He turned back to Clara once it was securely in his pocket, sparing a glance to the Doctor, who was about halfway across the room by now.

"What do you think he's doing?"

Clara shook her head and laughed quietly. "Most of the time, I have no clue." She took a few steps towards him. "Doctor! What the heck are you doing?" Even from a distance, they could see his cheeky grin.

"Shhh! I'm hunting Daweks!" the Doctor said, imitating Elmer Fudd. Clara covered her hand with her face, not amused, and then started walking towards him. "C'mon Theta. We have to make sure this lunatic doesn't get himself killed."

Theta laughed, following the Doctor alongside Myra. He poked at Clara for fun.

"I take offense to that, you know; we're the same person, you're basically saying that I would wander into something and get myself killed" he paused, eyes widening "on second thought, I'd suggest we speed up a little"

Clara replied in a sarcastic tone. "Ya think?" She sprinted over to the Doctor and grabbed his hand, yanking him towards her. "What the heck do you think you're doing? Do you want to regenerate? Or even worse die?"

The Doctor stuck his chin up in mock defiance. "Hmph. It'd be nice if you trusted me!" He dramatically stalked off in the other direction, breaking away from Clara's grip. Wielding his sonic screwdriver, he continued scanning the walls and floor of the warehouse.

Wide eyed with disbelief, Clara looked back at Theta, then back at the Doctor. "How can you two be almost the same person?"

Theta shrugged nonchalantly, turning to Clara.

"Well, I'm him, just from another universe" he eyed his counterpart "though it's obvious we're different in some aspects. We act about the same, but I'm only 31, and he's 900 or 1000 or whatever. I can only image what he was like before this" he shuddered at the thought of it "must have been reaalllllyyy childish then. Then again, it could just be this regeneration"

He shrugged again, following after the Doctor, taking his own sonic screwdriver out. He fiddled with a few switches, setting it to scan for nearby lifeforms that are similar to a human's biosignature; Cybermen. Since the dalek suits were made by Cyberman technology, then there needed to be some of them around, too. Not to mention the cybermat.

He brandished the device, pressing down on the activation button. It glowed blue and buzzed, scanning the area.

The Doctor continued walking and laughed to himself, but cheerful expression soon turned to a horrified one. His once green glowing sonic screwdriver had lost it's glow and was now shooting white hot sparks out of the tip. He threw it to the ground and backed away over to Clara. "Can I see your phone?"

"Sure..." she said, and pulled out her phone, flipping it open. "I don't know how that's going to-"

"Thanks!" the Doctor said and slowly walked back towards the screwdriver. As he got closer, the phone screen became distorted and unreadable. It went black once he passed the sonic device on the floor. "Just wonderful!" he shouted, throwing the phone down in rage. It broke in half, and lumpy black goo started to seep out from the cracks. "They have new technology. Melts all unauthorized devices. Don't bring yours over here, Thet." he said, pointing at Theta's screwdriver.

Clara walked over to the broken sonic screwdriver and pocketed it. She noticed a silver door with a passcode at the end of the warehouse, and moved towards it. "Well, you're gonna have to! We don't have all night."

Theta froze in his tracks, looking down at his own sonic device nervously. No way was he going to let it get fried. He tucked it away in his pocket, making sure that it was off, as well as searching through the transdimensional pockets and making sure any other technological devices were off.

"Wow, only took them, eh, five times before they got the hint that us using technology is bad for them? I'm surprised, those tin-heads can think after-all!" Theta grinned, strolling past the technology barrier and over to the silver door. It was, like all things Cybermen seemed to make, big and plainly obvious. Right smack dab in the middle was the logo for Cybrus Industries. Off to the side, next to the door, a small keypad was attacked to the wall. He stared between the door and the keypad for a few moments.

"Hm...maybe? Nah...Oh! No...or perhaps? No, not that either, I'm sure it's too heavy of metal...AHAH!" Theta rummaged in his pockets, looking for something. He came out with a screwdriver...not a sonic one, but a normal, run of the mill, twist to unscrew stuff screwdriver. He set to work on the keypad.

"All we need to do is get in here, disable the door, move a few wires around, cut a few more, and the locking system should short circuit. Easy! Ha, the Cybermen are as easy to defeat as ever"

Clara almost burst out laughing. "Heh, oh god, you don't know how weird it is to see you use a normal screwdriver." She walked over to the door and leaned against the wall beside it.

The Doctor walked over to the door and looked over it as he spoke. "You know, it's not going to be as easy as this. Whenever the Daleks are involved..." He trailed off and a solemn look appeared on his face. "Whenever they're involved, things don't always turn out well." His expression went from serious to sadness, and he turned away from Theta. The Doctor took a deep breath, tested his smile a few times, then turned back to Theta. "You need any help?"

Clara noticed the sudden change in the Doctor's attitude. He was getting worse and worse every time she saw him. Too many things to count triggered this demeanor, and she worried that one day he wouldn't be able to hide it away anymore.

((WOW I dunno why that came out depressing, but I guess I'll go with it xD))

Theta shook his head, getting done with one screw, letting it fall to the floor before starting on the next.

"Nah, I'm good. There aren't many screws here, won't take too long" he glanced up at the Doctor, not noticing his odd behavior "And I'm sure that the daleks can't be that bad. And even if they are, when have they ever faced two Timelords and a Human at once? Three minds equals three times the brain power" he turned back to the panel, taking a screw out and starting on yet another "Anyways, if things turn sour we could always, I dunno, make the Daleks and Cybermen mad at each other, then let them 'delete' to their hearts content"

The Doctor gave Theta a grin that said 'that's what you think'. "Weeeellll.....that plan MIGHT have worked if the Cybermen weren't the ones controlling the Daleks. You see, since the Daleks had the logo on-"

Clara gave him a sharp jab in the arm. "Great plan Theta, but it won't work under these circumstances is what he was trying to say."

"That wasn't what I was tryi- OI! That hurt!" Clara had elbowed him a second time in the ribs and he got the message.

"Huh, then that just makes it easier. From what I've heard, the Daleks are a pretty advanced race. Cybermen, wellll...their thought processes are a little easier to understand. After all, they used to be humans, and humans have a more simplistic mind" realizing he had just said that with a human in the vicinity, namely Clara, the young Timelord turned to her with wide eyes, attempting to cover up his mistake.

"No offense Clara, I meant, erm, uhh...humans are less psychotic minded then daleks? Yeah! Cause daleks are crazy...and, psychotic...you're not buying a word of this are you?" he blushed a bright pink in embarrassment, averting his eyes from her's, giving the Doctor a look that plainly said 'I made your companion mad didn't I?'.

Clara huffed in annoyance and glared at the door, her gaze almost willing it to disappear. "Do you have the door open yet?" It was bad enough with the Doctor acting like a know it all, but now two of them? She could only home there wouldn't be any more Timelords in the picture today.

Not that she had a problem with Timelords.
Just these particular two were getting on her nerves today.

The Doctor mumbled to himself and shrugged at Theta. "It's fine..."

"I'm working on it..." Theta mumbled, going back to his work in order to not have an angry AND impatient female human on their hands. He finally removed the last screw, and was free to work with the wires. He looked between all the different colours, red and blue and green and purple. Ok, he had this, he had taken a primitive technology class in the Academy, and they had covered wires. Being as delicate as he could, he reached between the other wires and grabbed onto the yellow one, which he knew was directly connected to the pressure system on the door, which was what kept it closed. Still being gentle, he pulled one end out...just for a huge bolt of electricity to jump out, latching onto him and shocking him. Theta stumbled back, falling onto his back, smoking. He coughed, trying to get over the burning feeling that was overtaking his body, and the difficulty with which his tongue moved so that he could talk.

"I think their wiring system may be different than the Universal standard..."

The Doctor stepped back and pulled his shirt up over his mouth and nose as did Clara.

"You think so?" she said sarcastically, her voice muffled by the collar of her red sweater. Despite her reply, she still bent down next to Theta and pushed him up to a sitting position. Clara had never seen wiring like this, and she didn't think she ever wanted to deal with it again. Who ever heard of lightning coming out of a little yellow wire? That would never happen to normal people.

"Theta, you look like burn toast!" the Doctor joked and crouched next to his blackened form.

Theta winced at the movement of sitting up, hoping to Rassilon that he never got shocked this bad again. It hurt like he had a full body sunburn, and he really didn't want to see a mirror at the moment, knowing that it must be bad if he was being compared to burnt toast.

"I'm fine...just I don't think that the wiring system will be as easy to figure out as I thought it was going to be" he glanced over at the offending panel, wondering how they would get into the base now. Technology wasn't working, and there was no lock to pick. Then again...what did that yellow wire do, if it didn't open the door?

Clara shrugged, grabbed the screwdriver, and hurled it at the wired panel. The impact broke a few wires and pulled some out, causing large bolts of electricity to shoot into the air.

Then the metal door fell down.

The Doctor's mouth hung open in complete shock as he stood up and walked over to the now open door frame. "But...how, my god that was so stupid but completely genius!" he muttered and walked through into the dark room.
