Shadowed Figures

[Closed to Toni, Myself and Damon]

Leaning back on the bench, Sonya looked up at the star studded sky with a low breath. A small smile playing around her lips as she stared at the moon while it rose slowly in front of her. A hand reaching out quickly, she grabbed the Journal and a pencil from her bag and began to sketch the scene in front of her. London at midnight, lights shining in the darkness and piercing the gloom in the park she sat in at the moment.
Glancing down at the paper, she noticed a odd figure she sketched into the scene without realizing it. Most of the time, she let her hand wander across the page with a pencil or pen clutched in it, using her eyes to tell her fingers what motions to make. Looking back up, she squinted her eyes and finally spotted the figure she had drawn without knowing. Shutting the journal quickly, she shoved it into her knapsack along with the pencil and got to her feet, the straps already settling onto her shoulders before she straightened her legs fully.
Casting a quick look over her shoulder, she walked around the bench and headed across the pathways towards the small coffee shop she spotted earlier while walking towards the bench.

Damon leaned against the wall of the coffee shop, watching the familiar figure walk up as he smirked. "I think you're addicted to coffee," he called over once she was close enough. He stuffed his hands into the pockets of his leather jacket as he shoved away from the wall. His ice blue eyes never left Sonya, though his smirk grew into a toothy grin. "Try something more... Healthy? Milk. Now, wait. I can do better than that. Water. Water seems healthy, even if it takes sucky." He dropped his grin as he fell into shallow thoughts, until dragging himself out of it and glancing over his shoulder. "No flavor is never fun."

Sonya looked up at him sharply, her thoughts scattered at the sight of Damon in front of her. "Oh... Um, I was just looking for something to warm up with was all." She murmured in a distracted tone, glancing over her shoulder once again, her eyes picking up on the shadowy figure as it approached from behind. "Care to join me? I'm buying this time." She added hopefully, looking back at Damon with a strained smile. She didn't know why the figure bothered her as much as it did, something about the way it walked caused her reaction. Reaching over, she grabbed Damon's wrist and pulled him into the shop behind her and shut the door tightly before wandering over to a table to sit down, the knapsack falling from her shoulders and onto the floor as she did. "So... What are you doing in town this time? Someone move in that you haven't tormented yet?" Sonya finally asked, looking over at him with another slight smile.

Damon rubbed his wrist where she had yanked him, looking out of the glass walls into the night he was truthfully enjoying. "No. Well, maybe. I was checking in on a friend, really. Nothing major." He collapsed into a chair, resting his head back as he shut his eyes. "Felt like I haven't sat in years. Probably haven't. Wouldn't be entirely surprised." He opened one eye and smirked up at Sonya, "I got bored and joined the army in the '20s a week ago. That was torture."

"So you went AWOL and ran back to the future. Sounds reasonable." Sonya shook her head and mock disapproval. In all honesty she was glad to find him, he was one of the few people she's met that she felt was trustworthy. "I was starting to wonder with the clothing, have to say, a uniform fits you better than I thought it would." Laughing lightly, she glanced up at the waitress in confusion before remembering where they were. "Coffee, black. And whatever he's getting." She said quietly, glancing back over at Damon, her head cocked to the side with a grin. "Milk, Water... Something else equally healthy and tasteless?"

Damon raised an eyebrow amusingly at Sonya before shaking his head and glancing at the waitress with a smirk. "Exactly what she said. Water." The waitress smiled, twirling her pen in circles before slowly turning her back to their table and sauntering off to get their orders. Damon sighed, looked at Sonya, then at the uniform. He had just about everything still on besides the coat. That had been replaced by his worn leather jacket. "I don't go for uniforms often. No one looks good in them and they refused to allow me to graffiti my own coat." Damon shrugged helplessly, leaning back in the chair dangerously on the back legs as he offered another carefree smirk.

"I'm sure you thought that was just horrible." Sonya said lightly, her eyes drifting to over his shoulder, looking out the window. The figure stood just across the road from the shop, the face hidden by a large hood but she knew it was looking at her. A tingle at the back of her neck confirmed her thoughts before looking back over at Damon again. "Besides, why ruin a perfectly good coat when you have one right there that's already been ruined to perfection, right?" Looking down at the table, she drew invisible patterns on it's top before a steaming mug of coffee was placed in front of her. "Ah, thanks." She grinned up at the waitress, her eyes once again flicking towards the window before returning to the woman's face.

Damon accepted the water bottle the waitress handed him before letting his eyes skim across the room. He had noticed Sonya's constant glances outside and it was getting him antsy. Antsy enough to pull something stupid. He glanced at the water, setting it on the table before looking at Sonya. "That's exactly true." He said, shrugged the jacket off and pushed it over the table to Sonya. "Hang on to it for a minute? I need to go sing Mama Mia in the street." He slipped out of his chair and he immediately felt the throbbing in his arms and legs. "Never doing that again," he grumbled, stepping out of the coffee shop before Sonya could protest.

Sonya blinked as he shoved the coat into her hands and looking up at where he was, she spotted his back vanishing out the door. "Oh that idiot." She growled to herself, leaping to her feet and throwing a couple of notes on the table to pay for her coffee before grabbing her bag and his coat to follow him outside.
Hesitating in the doorway, she glanced around the sidewalk nervously. Only when she couldn't spot the figure did she step out from the safety of the lighted doorstep and onto the pavement. "Damon? Where the hell did you go now?" Sonya hissed into the night, not wanting to attract unwanted attention to herself while glancing again in all directions.

Not hearing Sonya, Damon wandered further out into the street, humming off key as he looked around in the dark. Whatever she had seen, he wasn't seeing now. But what could hide in the dark undetected? Masked by darkness? The black of night? "I really wish I had Toni for this reference," he whispered under his breath before spinning around to face the direction he thought the coffee shop was in. In reality, he couldn't be sure. Taking a step forward, Damon felt the front of his body smack against something hard, yet hollow. He coughed, stumbling to the ground as he struggled to catch his breath. His eyes shifted the best they could to see what he had hit. Nothing was there.

Sonya let out a low breath of frustration as she shrugged into Damon's coat and took a small step out into the road to get a better view. "Damon, where are you?" She hissed again, looking in either direction before taking a couple of more steps towards the other side, her eyes flicking back and forth along the street as she did. Finally she spotted a figure on the ground not too far down from where she was and began walking towards it. Glancing around herself again as she did, arms crossing over her chest defensively before she picked up her pace. "Damon." Sonya called out a bit louder than before as she reached him and looked down with an amused smile on her face. "If you lay in the road like that, your going to be hit by a car you know."

Damon groaned, glancing at Sonya before squeezing his eyes shut. "Give me a minute. The street is comfy and I've made a nice bond with it." He replied, opening his eyes to look up at her. "What were you looking at? Outside? Or do you just find empty streets a pretty site? I get it, everyone finds beauty in different ways, but that's kind of sad." He shut his eyes again, slowing down his breathing as he listened to all the soft noises down the street.

Frowning slightly, Sonya debated on telling him before straightening back up and glancing around once more. "There was a figure following me in the park. That's the main reason I wanted to go in the coffee shop. I thought it would follow me at least to the door, but for some reason it didn't cross the street. It stayed in the park area." She finally said, looking back down at him with a low sigh. Her teeth biting down on her lower lip for another moment. "It gave me an odd feeling. I didn't like how it walked I think. Odd steps and everything..." Looking back up, her eyes raked across the darkness in the park only a few feet from where she stood and felt a small shudder run through her. "Do you want your coat back or are you going to turn this spot into your new home?"

"New home." Damon grumbled, shifting around as he groaned. "Odd steps? How does that even make sense?" He asked, opening his eyes as he looked up at her. "Odd steps would be like a limp or something. If anything. Or maybe you don't approve of the shoe? That'd be weird." Damon sat up, lifting a hand to rub his shoulder as he squinted up at her. "The ground... Isn't half bad anyway. Much nicer than benches. Or whatever."

"It looked like it was taking three steps, not two." Sonya scowled at him and folded her arms, her eyes darting around in a quick survey of the surroundings before returning to Damon again. "Haven't you ever noticed of things like that and just wanted to get away from it? Well no i don't think you would actually." She added, an amused smile brightening her face up as she spoke. "Knowing you, you'd dive right in and bother the poor creature or person until you knew why they were like that, wouldn't you?"

"Do you really think I'm that rude?" Damon asked, dragging himself to his feet. He groaned, running a hand through his raven black hair. He glanced at Sonya, a smirk appearing on his face at the sight of her. "You look good in leather." He commented, turned and started down the street. "Now, give me a second while I think of another bad idea." He called back to her, brushing the dust and specks of dirt off his shoulders as he walked. "Really. I'll only need a minute or two. This'll be easy. Especially when I can't see anything."

Sonya glanced down at herself and frowned slightly in thought. "I dont normally wear leather." She shrugged and looked back up to see Damon walking off. "Oi wait up!" She hurried after him, the bad hanging from her shoulders bouncing along behind her with each step. Falling into step beside him, she matched his pace and looked up at him with a wry smile. "And why exactly do you want to think of a bad idea? I thought they cane naturally to you."

"Bad ideas are always better." Damon replied, kicking a rock out of his way as he slowed down. He stuffed his hands into the pockets of his jeans, glancing at Sonya with a smirk. "I'm getting the vibe you think completely poorly of me. Rude and has bad ideas. I really, really need to change that soon. Maybe I'll bribe you with a smoothie." His smirk widened into a smile as he looked ahead again. "Smoothies make everything better."

"So, apparently I think poorly of you." Sonya raised an eyebrow at him curiously. "I've never really had any specific thoughts about you, Damon. You completely elude anything that might describe you. The second I think I understand you even the smallest bit, you turn around and baffle me again. I have only one thought about you, and that is trustworthy." Shrugging her shoulders, she glanced over to the side again, narrowing her eyes for a moment while she studied the dark park beside them. "And smoothies sound great..." She fell silent for a moment before casting a sly smile over at Damon, her eyes shining in mischief as she spoke. "Much better than cake anyway."

[That's right, I went there ]

Damon raised an eyebrow, glancing at Sonya with a bemused grin. "Really? I don't think that's exactly true." He laughed, kicked at the ground once again before looking over his shoulder. "What do you keep looking at? There's no shadow with a funny walk. Even if there was, I'm sure Peter Pan's shadow would do no harm." He stopped walking, glancing at Sonya before looking back towards the park. "I have a bad idea."

"Don't you dare go in there." Sonya hissed at Damon, a hand reaching out to grab his wrist quickly as she spoke. "I don't like the feeling I get from that park, there's just something... Not right about it." She added nervously, her eyes glancing up into his for a moment, trying to tell him the odd emotion she got in her chest whenever she looked into the dark. "I don't like it. At all, for all we know that figure could be something that kills you with a single touch. And honestly, I don't care to find out how Regeneration feels right at this very moment."

"Then..." Damon started, prying his wrist away from her grip, "don't follow me." He finished, turning away as he jogged in the direction of the park. He waved a hand in the air to avoid anymore protests from Sonya. "And then we'll find a cake shop! Or some smoothies!" He called over, stopping at the very edge of the park. The grass was wet under his shoes and he groaned. "Fine, okay." He muttered and stepped forward, shivering under the new air pressure tightening around him. "Parks are supposed to be children friendly."

Sonya let out a groan and wrapped her arms around herself again, shifting from foot to foot as she watched Damon slowly disappear into the darkness. Finally letting out a loud huff of air, she hesitantly followed him into the park, her shoes sliding on the damp grass slightly before she caught up with him again. "Damon, you are impossible and I will never understand you." She grumbled under her breath as she stared down at her feet for a moment then glanced up, a shudder working through her body at the stillness of the air. On the road there had been a gentle breeze, but the second she stepped onto the grass of the park, it fell still and silent. No sounds seemed to breach the odd pressure surrounding them as they wandered deeper into the area. "Why exactly do you have to go and investigate things that will end up putting us into some sort of trouble? Last time it was Daleks, now its some weird creature."
