A Life Anew

Ben walked through the streets of London ideally, one hand loosely holding a cigarette while the other held onto a book; the sound of his boots hitting the stone flooring beneath him echoing up to his ears along with the footsteps of others as they walked by. He didn't care for their chatter, nor their company at the moment, his mind was focused on a new project his boss had him working on, Oh how i hate that man , he thought to himself.

The familiar sight of his favorite coffee shop, Jim's, beckoned him as he approached it, bringing a smirk to his face as he tossed out his cigarette and stomped on it to put it out properly. Pulling open the door and stepping in, he was greeted by the smile of a petite blonde and her co workers who had familiarized themselves with him. "Ben!" She proclaimed, hugging him tightly before motioning to the kitchen, "I'll go get you your usual, maybe some apple pie?", Ben nodded with a smile, "Yes please.". Sitting down in his usual booth seat, Ben looked out of the window and released a sigh, "Just another beautiful day in the life of me" he mumbled to himself.

Ben peered over the edge of his booth to get a view of the overly cheery man who entered Jim's with an eyebrow raised and a slightly gaping mouth. But his view was cut off by the waitress walking back over to him with the coffee and the slice of pie that he ordered just moments prior, "Here you are Ben" the blonde waitress said with a chuckle, "Ah, thank you" Ben replied with a smile, turning his body back to an upright position to face the table as she placed down the coffee and plate of pie.

The coffee hit his lips causing a rush of energy and the smile on his face to grow so that it shinned from ear to ear, "Did you hear about that plane crash yesterday?" the waitress asked Ben as she sat down in front of him. Ben simply shook his head, taking another sip of the coffee, his interest now perked, "Well this plane crashed on the edge of the city..odd thing is, they never found any plane" she continued, "Then how do you know it's a plane?" Ben asked, the waitress paused, "Well..the news..they said it was".

"C'mon Robin, it'll be real quick! A quick pop in then out for some coffee, nothing more" Theta Sigma dragged a more than reluctant Robin Terrell to a small coffee shop in London.

Not too long ago, Robin had called Theta from a telephone booth down the road, complaining that she was bored and wanted to do something. Theta had been in the same predicament, so he had agreed, eager to do something other than annoy the fish in the TARDIS. But as soon as the black and green box had landed, the sixty year old Timelord had taken note of a strange smell in the air, something alluring and strangely familiar. It didn't take long for him to figure out what it was; coffee. Ah, coffee. Aside from pears, it had to be one of the best things humans created. Not only was it warm and delicious, but it gave you a bunch of energy; something Theta certainly did not need more of, but still wanted.

The little bell to Jim's Coffee Shop tinkled as the door was pushed open, a small breeze from outside drifting in and making a few people that were closer to the door shiver. A brown haired man in tweed and a bowtie entered, his hand clasped around a redhead's hand, dragging her along behind him. He walked over to the booth next to Ben's, sitting down and letting go of his hold on Robin. Theta looked jittery, as if he had already drank a bunch of coffee and was just waiting for more. The fact that there was another Timelord nearby went completely over his head. Then again, the Ninth incarnation of the Doctor he had never met, so he would have no idea that he was a Timelord unless he went up to him and checked for a double pulse.

Robin sighed, allowing Theta to drag her into the shop, but if she had to come with him to get coffee, she wasn't going to make it easy for him. Coffee was probably one of the grossest things she'd ever tried. Although, if they had cookies, she'd forgive him. "Why are we getting coffee anyway, don't your hearts beat fast enough already?" She whined, not caring who heard the comment about the hearts. It wasn't likely anyone there would get the reference anyway. If they did, good for them, they'd have a new friend. Or enemy. She treated them all the same anyway, so it didn't matter which. 

Plopping down into the booth, she looked up at Theta with an annoyed glare. "You better hurry up with that, I'd like to get out of here as fast as possible, and I don't want to deal with a hyperactive alien, you're bad enough as it is." She looked around, knowing the comment about the alien was probably not the best idea... whatever, unless someone was eavesdropping, they wouldn't care. They'd probably think it was a nick name or something. Then again, they weren't exactly a pair that could just blend in anywhere they wanted to, not when the adult was acting as childish as the younger one should be.

Ben released a chuckle, taking a sip of his tea as he eyed The Doctor carefully before replying, "It's this certain spot in the city" he paused as he set the cup down onto the table, "They run on a basic don't ask don't tell policy..no offense Tiff", Tiffany, the waitress shook her head, "None taken", "A plane crashes outside of town, somebody hears about it but doesn't tell, thinking it's nothing. Someone like me, well, we also keep it to ourselves in fear of ridicule or the possibility of an adventure we don't want. Next thing you know, we've got a make shift group of friends and curious minded people investigating a plane crash and there pots up an alien plot to destroy the world". Ben released a sigh, picking up his coffee and taking a sip, "Same old, same old. Seen that kind of thing before..was in the middle of one. Tower of London destroyed by a space ship. Metal men and hovering lu plungers shooting at each other. Some bloke with a pear fighting off a red haired girl with a rubber chicken" he chuckled, gulping down his coffee, "It's as if London is the damn main circus act for the entire universe to watch and we are all participants whether we like it or not".

Theta, with the retort on his tongue vanishing, turned around and blinked at the Doctor.

"Erm...hello?" his eyes darted over to Robin and he gave a hardly-noticeable shrug of the shoulders, wondering if she knew him or something. Though with how confused she looked, he doubted that was it. He turned back to the Doctor, raising an eyebrow.

"No offense, but who are..." his nose wrinkled up mid-sentence as he caught whiff of something, gagging a little and scooting a few inches away"Gak...is that banana? You don't have a banana with you, do you?"

Ben peered over the booth to The Doctor and the odd couple that sat in the booth, his eyes glancing down to Tiffany who watched him curiously. He smiled. "Got that address for the crash" He whispered to her; she nodded, jotted the address down on a napkin and slid it over to Ben who returned the nod and stuff the napkin in his pocket and got up. "See you later. Try not to worry about me" He told Tiffany before leaning over and kissing her on the forehead then turning and walking swiftly out of the shop, the second coffee in hand. Tiffany brushed her hair behind her ear and smiled as she got up and collected the trash from the table and began to get back to work as Ben, through the window, could be seen crossing the street, one hand in his pocket and the other, holding the steaming hot coffee placed inside of a white cup with a plastic lid.

Inside of his pocket, his hand clenched around the napkin Tiffany gave him, that held the address of the crash. His mind had stored the address in short term memory, causing him to remember it now but having him check it every few minutes or so to make sure he got it right, even though he knew he did.

Robin looked from the odd man to Theta - who could also be classified as an odd man right now. "Umm... hello? Who are you?" She asked the older odd man, wondering why he was over here. Well maybe he heard the things she was saying.... She mentally scolded herself, knowing she shouldn't have said anything. Apparently this guy knew what she was talking about though, so maybe he wasn't that bad. Or he was terrible, a terrible alien creature out to destroy them. 

Looking over the man, she noted a few choice things about his appearance, that being his nose and his ears. Maybe he really was out to get them, and those were fakes, hiding some weird, big elf ears and clown nose or something. She didn't want to say anything about it, though. She didn't want to offend him.

Theta pondered on the man's words. So he knew them...but they didn't know him? Sounded like time travel, which kind of happened when you just so happened to have a box that could do that. And the fact that the man understood what it was? Well, no way was he going to pass up a chance to investigate into something and meet a future friend, all in one day. He jumped up from his seat, running over to the door and next to the Doctor, not giving a single glance to the waitress that had just come around to take their order.

Eh, he didn't need coffee, anyways. Theta already seemed to have a permanent coffee high.

Robin yelped as Theta jumped up and ran straight for the door. Looking from the two about to leave the shop to the poor waitress Thet practically ran over, she smiled nervously, apologizing for their behavior, before climbing out of her seat and running to catch up with the other two before they left. "Alright, I guess we're going then. Nice to meet you by the way, Doctor." She grinned at him, feeling excited because she met another Doctor. So far that's what, only two? So far she thought this one might be a bit more calm than the thirteenth incarnation, but maybe that would get boring. Oh well, she'd see how it went.

Ben continued walking through the streets, checking the napkin, which had the directions on it once more to make sure he had the address correct in his head. Then he stopped. Far off behind him, back to Jim's coffee shop, Ben could feel pairs of eyes watching his every movement, studying them. Glancing around him, he kept in mind the various alley ways and back streets he could use to hopefully get rid of the gang that was sure to follow. With the address of the crash locked in his mind, Ben suddenly turned right and increased his pace to a nicely paced jog that lead him down the alley and quickly out of it where took an immediate right. He knew how to get there through these misdirection's he had set up for the group, it would take a little bit longer but it was worth it in the eyes and mind of Ben, who just wanted to do something by himself.
