Lifting the cup to his lips, the Doctor blew off the steam rising from his coffee as he sat on a bench across the street from the shop he had been watching. From what he could get from the TARDIS information, there had been an odd amount of disappearances from this area and he managed to narrow down the main point of where people had been last seen being the very store he sat across at the moment. For the past hour, he'd been waiting for them to open up so he could go inside and see what he could find, but apparently most places opened late on Sundays. He would just go back to the TARDIS and jump ahead, but with how she'd been acting lately, he'd be more likely to jump ahead a month rather than a few hours.

Letting out a low groan of frustration, he set aside the cup of coffee he bought just moments ago and leaned his head back on the bench. Where the bloody hell was Robin? She said she was going to the cafe around the corner to get something to eat and she'd been gone for at least an hour now. Frankly, he was irritated, but under that, there was that odd sense of worry that maybe something had gone wrong. It was fairly close to the shop he was watching, who's to say she didn't pass by the back door while he wasn't looking? Shaking his head, the Doctor forced the thought from his mind and finally caught sight of a woman standing in front of the door, a key in her hand as she unlocked the shop and opened up for the day. Picking up his cup, he took another drink and waited a few more minutes until standing up and heading across the street. Robin knew where he was, she'd come into the shop when she realized he wasn't on the bench.

Pushing the door open, he looked up at the electronic bell that sounded when he stepped inside. Letting it swing shut behind him, the Doctor began striding along the isles, looking for something, anything that seemed out of place or alien but couldn't find a single thing. Just paintings and figurine after figurine. Several small statues placed around at the end of the isles as well. But nothing that stood out at him as 'alien'. Finally giving up his attempt at being nonchalant, he made his way up to the counter near the back and leaned against it, waiting for the woman behind it to notice him. "Hello, I'm the Doctor. I'm looking for.. Something interesting." He finally said with a wide smile on his face, hoping that explanation would be enough to get through to her. The woman looked over and he spied a name tag stating that her name was 'Stacie'. "Hello, and what exactly do you mean by interesting? We have a number of paintings and sculptures to choose from." She said in an equally bright voice, waving a hand at the merchandise he had been browsing through moments ago. "Right, but I'm looking for something a bit more different. Something a little more alive."

Falling silent, Stacie looked him over before turning and waving a hand at him to follow her as she stepped into the back room. Glancing around quickly, the Doctor stepped around the counter and followed her into the shadowed room, blinking his eyes and trying to adjust to the sudden change from the bright of the shop behind him to the dim of the room he stood in now. "Well, sir, if you are looking for something a little more alive, I think we have exactly what your looking for." Stacie said with a cheery voice just as a light blinked on in front of him and caused the Doctor to raise a hand up to shield his eyes until they grew accustomed to the light again. Slowly lowering his arm, he blinked at the painting in front of him. It was a simple farmhouse scene. House on the hill, barn just a little bit below it with a small fence around the front. Then there was a small tree near the back, the only one he could see in the painting, but there was something odd about it, like something was missing.

Just as he was about to mention it, a small figure stepped from the house and walked over to the tree. A young girl by the looks of it, bright red hair and a white dress. Barefoot, she skipped across the grass towards the tree and as she reached it, a tire swing dropped from one of the oddly positioned branches in time for her to grab it and begin swinging around, her hair flying out behind her with each upward pull of the swing she now stood on. Speechless, the Doctor looked over at Stacie and noticed her studying him as he watched the painting. "This is... Fantastic, absolutely fantastic. I'll take it." He stated quickly, reaching into his pocket for the psychic paper he always carried with him only to have Stacie shake her head. "No, the first painting is always free. Keeps them coming back for more, you know." She said with a smile as she pulled out a tarp and gently wrapped it around the frame before handing it over to him. "There you go. I hope you enjoy it, I know I did when I painted it."

With that said, she turned and lead him from the back room towards the front door and held it open for him. Stepping outside, the Doctor blinked in the sunlight before heading back to the TARDIS, there were tests he had to run.

((Most random post in the world but here we go))

Robin giggled as she skipped out towards the tire swing, taking some joy out of what would most likely be a very stressful day of school. Teachers, did they not understand what farmwork was like? That combined with homework was  not pleasant. Standing on top of the black circle, she swung to and fro, staring up at the clouds until she heard her mother yelling from inside. Ugh. Time to go already? Sighing, she jumped down from the swing and ran inside, preparing herself for the lecture on playing in her dress again.

((Short, but i cannot type this without laughing and im supposed to be hiding >.>))

PostSubject: Re: Painting Life   Painting Life I_icon_minitimeMon Oct 21, 2013 12:00 am

Theta walked down the streets of London, hands in pockets. He really had no reason to be walking around here except that it was a nice day; with all the different planets and aliens he saw, Theta found comfort in coming to Earth now and then, which he now regarded as his new home planet. The species here, humans, also had such a strong resemblance to Timelords that he didn't have to disguise himself, no matter what time period he was in.

Of course, things can never be just 'relaxing' for a time traveler. When he turned to corner, he was met with the sight of a large, blue police box; the Doctor's TARDIS. And who just happened to be walking to said TARDIS? The Doctor himself. Theta grinned and ran to catch up with his counterpart.

"Doctor! Hey, Doctor!" he skidded to a halt in front of the larger man, a silly grin on his face. It'd been a while since he'd seen this regeneration. Not to play favorites, but he'd always liked this one the best, with how cheery he always was. The only downside was his obnoxious love of bananas, but that rarely came up "What are you doing in London? No, that's a silly Q.uestion for the Great Moose. What's happened to cause you to come to London?"

"Disappearances." The Doctor replied, looking over the younger man with a raised eyebrow, taking in his appearance with idle amusement. Blimey he was young, it surprised even him that the boy could wander around without being questioned. Returning his attention to the TARDIS in front of him, he pulled out the key and unlocked the door before pushing it open and stepping inside. "Shut the door behind you, last thing I want is some ape walking in here because it looked interesting." He called over his shoulder to the other Time Lord as he made his way towards the lab down the hallway.

In honesty, he was surprised to see anyone. He had plenty on his mind right now, he didn't really need someone to distract him from what he was doing anyway. Robin being gone so long, and now a painting that moved and acted more like a telly than a painting. Blimey things were starting to get interesting and his companion was missing all of it. Shaking his head, he pushed the door in front of him open and walked inside, carefully setting the painting up on the table in the middle and unwrapping it slowly. Pulling the tarp away from the front, he blinked at the image in confusion. It changed to look like the interior of a house. From his guess, it had to be the farmhouse, the window in the kitchen showed the tree with the tire swing on it actually.

Robin crossed her arms, rolling her eyes as her mother tried for the millionth time to get her to stop playing outside in her good dress. And again, for the millionth time, she didn't care. Honestly, she could tell her it wasn't lady like to do garden work, but this was just too far. Since all she ever wore besides when she was working was a dress, what was the point of letting girls play? What, were they all just expected to like dolls and tea parties? Plus, at this age, they were barely allowed to have free time, anyway. All schooling, becoming a proper girl. Ugh. One day she'd run away and go find something else, something worth while. Her older brother entered the room, holding out his hand with a raised eyebrow. Oh, right! Lessons! Didn't want to be late to learn how to properly pick up a tea cup, right? Shaking her head, she ran over and took his hand to escape her mother's ranting, walking outside with him as he escorted her to school. Really, she could do it on her own, but it was practically a scandal to go out without a man. She felt so out of place...

Theta did as the older Timelord said, closing the door behind him with a small squeak. After making sure the door was properly locked (he'd actually learned from all those times people wandered in; it only took 50 years or so) he ran to catch up with the Doctor, shoes making a echo-y sound when they slapped against the metal floors. His pace slowed to a brisk trot as he neared the room. Trying to be quiet so that he wouldn't interrupt the older man, he entered.

The room was very similar to his own TARDIS's lab, which took him by no surprise. But the thing on the table did, causing him to halt in his steps right inside the doorway. It was a simple painting to the untrained eye, but there were subtle things that a Timelord couldn't help but notice; a tire swing swinging back and forth in the background, for example. Last time he checked, paintings didn't move. He couldn't help but blurt out in obvious amazement and confusion.

"What on Gallifrey is that?!?"

"For once, I don't know. But it's fantastic, isn't it?" The Doctor replied in excitement, already preparing scanners to study the paint on closer inspection, a wide grin on his face, the one he always wore when making a new discovery that fascinated him. "I believe it has something to do with the missing people, but I don't know how yet. Come on, you can help me with this. Go get the lazer scan set up, once I'm done with the surface scan, i want to use that to study the canvas closer." He added, nodding over at the machine across the room from where he stood before returning his attention to the tool in his hand, fiddling with the settings for a moment before passing the light over his hand and reading the information on the screen.

Robin smiled politely as they made their way into town, waving slightly at some of the more familiar faces. Ugh. If only she didn't have to be 'lady like', then she could actually go up and greet her close friends instead of pretending they weren't important. At least they knew what she meant when she tapped her finger on her leg - they were to meet up in the woods later. Hopefully she'd be able to sneak off without her mum noticing. As her and her brother neared the cottage she was meant to learn manners in, she nodded to him, a signal he could leave. He patted her on the head, something he knew would annoy her, before taking off in the other direction. Sighing, Robin entered the blue and white house, the frilliness of the outside already getting on her nerves. Today she would be extra sure to sneak in a few unladylike comments, she was sure of it. Just how long would it take for the instructor to realize she was hiding the biscuits in her lap?

Theta nodded eagerly, a bright grin appearing on his face as he went to go set up the lazer scan. He was of the same opinion as the Doctor; new things were just so exciting. Species like humans always discovered new things, but for Timelords, it was a rare treat. A delicious, carmel covered, dipped in chocolate treat at that.

As soon as he was done setting the scan up and calibrating it and such, he brought it over, standing by the Doctor and looking down at the painting in fascination. His fingers twitched by his side, just itching to get out his sonic and scan the thing.

"Find anything yet?"

"Um... No. And if you keep asking, I won't find anything. So do us both a favor and shut up." The Doctor replied, not bothering to be polite as he focused his attention on the painting once more, completely ignoring the younger Time Lord in the room as he slowly walked around it in a circle, scanning every inch of the moving picture in front of him, trying to pick up something, anything that might say what happened to Robin. He knew who it was int he painting now after the kitchen scene. There was no one else who could have that red of hair anywhere in the universe.

"Blasted thing!" He finally snapped, slapping the scanner in the palm of his hand as it suddenly sparked and went dead. "Too much information, have you ever heard of that before? Too much information, how the hell does that work? You can never have too much information!" Throwing the thing over his shoulder, he stared at the painting while holding out his now free hand to Thet, palm up. "Come on then, let's see what that thing can do."

Robin sighed quietly, pretending to be interested as the instructor went on about where you're supposed to put your spoon and cup according to what you want. That's just silly, isn't it? Who really cares if your cup is upside down with or without the spoon? Who's going to pay attention to where you put the spoon to bother and give you a different amount of tea?! No one in their right mind, that's who. Then again, by that logic, it seemed most girls just didn't have right minds. As the instructor told her and the other girls to conduct today's tea party using what she just taught them, Robin bit back the urge to complain. No one else seemed to mind, they all seemed excited to do it! Why? Seriously, this was a tea party. Was this not immature? Well of course it wasn't... but for some reason it always seemed like it was. Picking up her cup and turning it over, she placed the spoon on top facing the girl across from her, 'accidentally' confusing her signals and not honestly caring. Once the tea was poured, she asked for her first finger food. Let the biscuit hoarding begin.

Theta frowned, not liking the other Timelords tone, as if he were just an annoying fly buzzing in his ear. Ok, fine. He thought he might be able to help with this missing persons thing, but it was obvious that the Doctor had it handled. He grumpily handed the Doctor the device, jamming his hands into his pockets and walking out of the room. Ok, maybe he was being a little moody, but Theta could always blame it on being stuck with the body of a teenager.

"Bloody thing." The Doctor murmured to himself, his eyes locked onto the painting as it continued to move and change scenes right in front of him, his hand passing over the surface with the device in his hand, trying to pick up trace elements in the paint or oils used on the canvas. Turning his head, he opened his mouth to ask Theta if he had seen or heard anything about the area recently only to find he was alone in the room. "Ah... Just me then."

Turning back to the painting, he passed the scanner over the frame quickly, about ready to give up and move onto another mode of scanning just as the device in his hand let out a series of loud blips. "Aha! Found something! Theta, get in here!" He crowed in excitement, his eyes lighting up as they passed over the small screen, reading the information displaying itself there.

Six biscuits later and the instructor bothered to check, making Robin sigh in annoyance and stand up, the offending lumps of bread falling from her skirt and onto the floor. Then she had to go on to hear a lecture on how it was rude and wasteful to do that, that there were people who would have loved to eat that bread, that she was a rotten little girl with no grace whatsoever. Same speech, over and over and over every time. Had the woman not learned by now that she was being rude and wasteful of her time by bothering anymore, that the people who could have eaten that bread would not have wanted it because it was stale and beginning to mold, that she was perfectly fine being a rotten little girl with no grace because she didn't care? Lucky for her, that was the last straw, and she had managed to get herself kicked out of class for the day. Grinning brightly, she offered a salute before skipping out the door, dashing towards the woods and waiting there for the gang of misfits she'd gathered up from around town.

When Theta heard the Doctor's call, he went through a self debate; stay all moody, prove his point, and walk out of the TARDIS? Or give in to his curiosity and see what the Doctor found. Which one, which one...?

Oh, who was he kidding? He wanted to see what the Doctor had found! It'd drive him mad if he didn't find out. He dashed back the way he came, popping his head in the doorway. The Doctor was reading the laser scan, so he focused his attention on that.

"What, what's it say?"

"It's a form of oil base... Only found on one planet, one planet that had history with kidnapping people from other planets for entertainment value." The Doctor said quietly, a dangerous glint shone in his eyes as he spoke before snapping out of the slight daze he was in and looking over at Theta with a scowl. "The Spiach, they use oils found on their planet, grows naturally in the plants there. They use it as a sort of hypnosis only it goes farther than that. They rub it on their target, the person falls asleep, then they use the same oils to paint with and what happens is the target dreams and the painting shows their dreams... Like a camera to the mind almost. A window to the soul some called it." Trailing off he looked back over at the painting again, watching Robin as she strode around the painting.

Robin kicked her legs, sitting on a tree stump as she waited for the rest of her gang. She did just get out early, so she had a bit of waiting to do before people like Tommy, who had work to do in the morning, to show up. No one else really ever bothered to come except Tommy and James. Unfortunately, they were also some of the only ones with apprenticeships, and were busy most of the time. Luckily, they had signaled back that they could make it today, so hopefully she wouldn't have much longer to wait.

Theta frowned at the thought. That was horrible; imagine, all your private dreams and thoughts, available as entertainment... and you don't even realise it's happening! It reminded Theta of a really bad reality TV show. He felt bad for the girl in the picture, whoever she was.

Wait. Theta startled at a sudden thought, the thought turning into a chain of thoughts. If she was in this painting...then her body had to be close by. And where her body was, the Spiach would be. If they could just establish a connection between her mind and her body, then they would be able to trace it back to where she and the Spinach were.

Theta made to mention this to the Doctor, but a second realisation came upon him before he could say anything, this one much less exciting than the first. He wasn't the only Timelord here, and it just so happened that the Doctor was the older one. Unlike most of the times, he wasn't the one in control, the one with all the ideas. Instead, he was the one to follow along and support. Was this what being a companion felt like? If it was, then Theta concluded that being a companion felt strange.

Well, it wouldn't hurt to try it for one day, right? How hard could being a companion be?

"She's nearby, they'd have to have her close to make the painting, but we can't leave either." The Doctor finally said after staring at the image in silence, his attention turning over to the younger Time Lord with a slight frown. "The farther away we leave, the more her mind is pulled from the body. It only takes so much distance before her mind is completely separated and she's trapped in this state." With that said, he turned to the painting and picked it up carefully, carrying it to the control room quickly. "Help me hook some of the blue wires to this. I have to try and contact her somehow. If her mind is awake, then she should be easy to reach."

Robin grinned brightly as Tommy approached the stump, carrying a small sack of food with him for the trip. Great, she was starving. Hopping down from her perch, she took a new seat on the floor in front of him as they began discussing what they could do today. They could play a prank on old Mr. Hobbertsons, hide his horse away. Maybe explore that new path she found a few days back down the creek? All depended on if James came around, though. He was the one who could navigate the trees back to the town. Snatching up a bit of cheese, Robin giggled as she listened to the older boy's stories of his apprenticeship, the stories of a woman complaining the shoe to be far to large when it was barely a shoe at all, a little girl trying to pay in sweets for a new pair of loafers. It was a pity sweets couldn't be traded that way.
