| She got to her feet, laughing as she reached the door and froze. "Are we on the right planet?" She asked him, confused now. She looked at her face and saw the answer on his face. This was Stratston, but something had happened. Sensing that he needed it, Alisha gave the Doctor a hug, hoping it helped ease the pain alittle. "Wanna go see what happened?" She asked him, thinking that might get him motivated to move away from the TARDIS and towards solving the problem. "Maybe we came to the wrong time period." She added, going forward a bit and sniffing the air. It smelled of ashes and smoke. She looked at him, hoping that he wasn't too upset. | |

| Blinking over at Alisha, the Doctor nodded silently, still unable to get past the fact the rainbow grasses were gone. Turning around again, he spotted the small hill that indicated a village and began heading in that direction, the crunching noises of burnt grass and brush sounding with each step he took. "It's the right time, something went wrong, something happened while I was gone..." He replied finally, his eyes staying locked on the hill as they drew near to it, his pace picking up slightly as a sudden nagging feeling pricked at the back of his mind. Something wasn't right. The colorful flags that usually fluttered around the hill were gone, the poles themselves sitting at awkward angles with what looked like small rocks tied to them.
Once they finally reached the edge of the village the blood in his veins turned to ice. The rocks weren't what he thought they were. The villager's bodies lay in the middle of the town, still burning from the pyre built around them. Heads, all dangling off of the poles in a sick inversion of the colorful flags they once bore proudly. Freezing to the spot, he stared at the carnage in front of them. Black, grey and ash white, the only color to relieve the dull mix was the bright yellow of the native's blood splashed across all of the surfaces.

| Alisha covered her mouth with her hand, shocked at what she saw before her. Who or what could have done this to the poor people. She didn't know what happened but she could tell it was bad... very very bad. One look to the Doctor's face confirmed her fears. There was a problem. She didn't want to go forward, fearing that she might throw up from all of the blood and carnage in front of her. "Who or what did this?" She asked him, forcing down a barf that was threatening to come up. She didn't want to seem weak in from of him though. Oh screw being weak... She thought as she threw up behind the Doctor, facing the other way. "I swear, I'm not always like that." She says, sighing softly as she looked down at the carnage again. | |

| "Don't be sorry. It's only natural." The Doctor murmured quietly, already moving once again as he paced around the village, searching for something that would give him a clue to what did this. "I'm sure the whole planet isn't like this, only a few isolated incidents." He added, glancing over at her with what he hoped was a reassuring look. Turning away, he ducked inside one of the small huts, turning over some of the scattered items inside only to reveal a trapdoor. "Ah! Hello!" He called hopefully, already pulling his sonic out and scanning the outer edge of the door. "Life signs! Hello! I'm the Doctor! If you can hear me, open up, I can help you!" He called louder, already trying to unlock the door as he spoke, his ears straining to hear any sound that might be on the other side. "Come on!" | |

| Alisha followed him, her heart pounding in her chest as she froze outside of the hut. She took a deep breath as she watched the Doctor struggle to find answers for this. Was the whole planet like this? She hoped for the Doctor's sake it wasn't. She didn't want the poor guy to have a heart attack. She went into the hut and started helping him. "Hello? Don't worry. We're not here to hurt you." She said in a soft kind voice. "We just want to help." She added, looking at the Doctor. "They've just been through something bad, Doctor. Yelling and shouting will just frighten them more." She said to him, looking down at the trap door. "Can you open up please? We're not going to hurt you. I promise." | |

| A faint shuffling sound echoed from behind the door, followed by a soft click of a latch being drawn back, allowing the Doctor to slowly pull the door open and look down into the face of a small child. No more than ten years old, tears streaming down his face as he looked up at the Time Lord in fear. "Mommy and Daddy told me to stay here no matter what. But I'm so hungry..." The young boy trailed off, his eyes rolling up into his head before collapsing onto the steps that lead down into the small crawlspace he hid in.
Without bothering to think, the Doctor scooped the child up into his arms and stood up, heading back to the TARDIS after catching Alisha's eye and jerking his head in the same direction, silently urging her to follow him. Words just wouldn't come, the sight of the child, coupled with the sight of his entire village slaughtered. It was a small blessing he passed out before leaving the hut. That was the last thing any child needed to see.

| Alisha felt sorry for the child, walking with the Doctor. It reminded her of someone with no innocence at such a young age. "Is he going to be okay, Doctor?" She said, really wanting to get rid of the sights she had seen. But she couldn't risk it. She couldn't risk going insane because of a horrible fate. She'd save those for if something happened that was so bad, she'd rather be insane than remember it. As they reached the TARDIS, she opened the door for him, sighing softly. Her blue eyes looked into his, wondering if he himself was okay. Had he seen this before? She couldn't be sure, but she rubbed his arm, waiting to know what they were going to do next after this small, well big, mishap. She was worried for the child, hoping he would be alright. | |

| Glancing sideways at Alisha, the Doctor frowned slightly before walking towards the medbay. Bloody thing, he visited it more often than not in the past few months. "He's malnourished. A simple vitamin drip should help." He murmured in an undertone, still preoccupied with his own thoughts as he laid the small boy down on the table and began setting up the equipment to take care of him in his comatose state.
The planet itself was peaceful, who would attack a species that wouldn't even lift a finger to defend themselves because they feared hurting their attackers. Gritting his teeth in anger, he let out a low hiss before straightening up and walking over to the door again. Pausing just outside of it, he looked over at Alisha. "Keep an eye on him. I have something I need to do." Without explaining, he turned and dissapeared into the hallway, heading back to the control room.

| Alisha nodded, sitting down by the boy. Her eyes wandered to the jar, shuddering a bit. No. She wouldn't dare touch the crystals. She couldn't. What would the Doctor say? She sighed, getting a blanket to make the boy comfortable, along with a pillow behind his head. The poor thing. He had been through a rough day or days. She didn't know how long the boy was in his crawlspace. But he deserved this rest right now. No young boy should have to go through what he did. Poor thing. What had done that to the planet? The Doctor had described a beautiful planet. Why would someone destroy it? What was to gain? She thought as she watched over him, hoping that his young age would be an advantage, and that time would erase it from his memory. | |

| "Well scan it again!" The Doctor snapped at his ship, ignoring the warning tone that colored her usual hum before another result flashed across the screen in front of him, causing a colorful swear to slip from his lips. "All of this for that tiny little stone. What the bloody hell was in it anyway?" He asked, his voice straining from being forced into a quieter one. "I only saw it one time and they wouldn't even let me near it."
The hum that came in response wasn't a happy one. Even his ship didn't know what the significance behind the odd stone was. Pushing himself away from the console, he fell back into the jumper seat and closed his eyes in thought, carefully bringing forward the faded memory he had of the green stone. Nothing of particular interest really, the only thing that made it catch his eye was the fact they protected it so fiercely. Guards stationed next to it day-round, deep in the catacombs under their village. 'Life'. That's what they called it, just that. 'Life'.

| Alisha went over to the Doctor after making sure the kid was okay. She was worried about him personally. She had never seen the Doctor so agitated and worried. "Doctor, are you alright?" She asked him, looking at him with a bit of wonder in her eyes. She rubbed his arm, trying to get him to talk to her, to get him to at least say he was or wasn't okay. So she wouldn't have to worry about him at all. Â But she knew that she would worry about him as she placed her head on his shoulder, sighing softly. | |

| "Alright wouldn't be the word for it, but I'm fine." The Doctor replied, ignoring her attempts at comforting him as he moved away from her touch to the other side of the console and began fiddling with the controls there. "Whoever did this, they took something special to the people. Something they nearly looked at as a god. And if someone killed every single one of them just for the blasted stone, it has something inside, something they wanted and wouldn't stop at anything to get."
Turning his attention from the console and over to Alisha's face, a smile hovering around his lips for the first time in nearly an hour. "Something important, and we're going to get it back."

| She smiled back, walking over to him. "Then I say we go after it." She said to him, already holding on to the edge to keep from falling when the TARDIS started up. Taking a deep breath, she watched the Doctor fiddle with the console, her heart pounding in her chest. Why was she trying to take a chance with her heart being broken? She shook the thought out of her head and returned to what was really important, the thing that was important to the now nearly existent people of Stratston. Did he say it was a stone? "What kind of stone?" She asked him, trying to learn as much as she could while on this trip. Maybe if she concentrated on the learning and the experience, and not the way that her heart skipped a beat when the Doctor looked at her, she might get more out of it. | |

| "It was just a stone, a green stone they protected with their lives..." The Doctor replied in frustration, glaring at the console in front of him before attempting to calm himself down again and speak calmly. "They called it 'Life'. I don't know what it means or why, but it was precious to them. Guards around it, underground vaults built just for it." He finally continued, his voice toned down as he looked at his companion with a slight frown on his face. "They wouldn't let me close enough for a look either, all I got was a passing glance then shoved right out. It was considered a privilege to see the stone if you weren't their species." | |

| "Maybe because it was what was giving them life." She said, thinking. "Maybe the stone is what was keeping the planet alive." She didn't know why, but that theory was stuck in her head. "But if it is, then we need to get it back for that little boy in there. He may be the last of his kind." She said, realizing that she might have hit a nerve with the Doctor. He's the last of his kind, doofus. She thought to herself, mentally doing a face palm. "But there's one question. Well two. Who has it, and why?" She said, thinking. She didn't know of anything other than what she had seen back in Amberville, during the attack. Taking a deep breath, she looked up at the Doctor. "We really need to find it." | |

| "Alisha, you are fantastic!" The Doctor proclaimed, grabbing her into a hug then turning back to the controls. "Wait here, I'll be right back." Turning again, he left the TARDIS quickly, running across the ruined plain towards the destroyed village. Shutting out everything around him, he made his way to the Elder's hut and opened the small hatch at the back, climbing down the stairs and heading towards the vault he last saw the stone.
Peering inside, he studied the room with a slight frown. "Empty. Well, of course it's empty." He mumbled to himself before flicking out his Sonic and scanning the pedestal the stone sat on, searching for anything, a grain something he could use to track it with before spotting a small flake of green on the floor. Snatching it up, he wrapped it in a tissue he found in his pocket before leaving and heading back to the TARDIS.
Bursting through the doors, he shut them behind him and pulled out the small, tissue-wrapped flake of stone, placing it on the console and hooking a small clamp to it. "There we go, our very own stone finder. Bad name, moving on." He said happily, already working the controls next to where he hooked the flake, eyes locked onto the screen in front of him as he worked.

| Alisha blushed a bright red when he hugged her, watching him leave the TARDIS for a few minutes. "I'm fantastic!" She said, twirling around in happiness as she waited for him to come back with whatever he had gone to get. Calming down, she looked down at the console, the TARDIS seeming to like her for some reason. She took a deep breath when the Doctor came back with a tissue in his hands. Looking over his shoulder, she saw the emerald flake in the tissue. What was left of the stone that someone had stolen from the poor planet. "So we use it to track the stone and get it back?" She asked him, wondering if it could track it and whoever had taken the stone. | |

| "Exactly, it has the same wavelength as the stone, and wherever that wavelength is, it'll follow." The Doctor explained quickly, still distracted by his calculations before finally turning to the flake again and twisting a small knob on the wire connected to it, allowing electricity to shoot into the small flake in small amounts. It would take forever to track the ship, but he couldn't risk putting too much into it and make the blasted thing turn into dust. "Hold on, I have to make a lot of stops on the way there." He cautioned Alisha before pulling the lever down next to him and holding onto it for a few seconds then lifting it back up and making the TARDIS stop in the middle of space. | |

| Alisha nodded, still smiling at him as she went to check on the boy. Seeing that he was still sleeping, she smiled and went back to the Doctor. "He's still asleep." She said to him, hoping he knew she meant their young guest on the TARDIS. She hoped that getting the stone would help the boy. "So once we find the stone, how are we going to get it back?" She asked, looking around the room for a sword. "Are we going to need weapons? Because I can defend myself if needed." She added, leaning on one of the pillars in the console room. She began to wish that she had brought her bag with her. She needed something to defend herself with. | |

| "Nope, we're going to ask them. And if they don't give it back then. We'll just take it. Simple as that, no fighting, no weapons, nothing at all." The Doctor said cheerfully, checking the status on the screen next to him before pulling the lever down for a few seconds only to raise it again. "Besides, do you even know how to fight against them? You don't even know who they are, much less know how they fight. You dive into something like that, expect to be locked up or strung up. Best leave the talking to me, I've done worse than this before and everything ended up just fine." | |

| "Alright, but what if they attack?" She asked him, trying to see all of the possibilities here. "If we simply take it, they'll come after us. We need a strategy for if the talking fails." She added, looking at the flake again. She was determined to get the stone back, but knew that the little spec couldn't take much electricity to it. She looked up at the Doctor. "So.. while we're waiting... I guess you have some questions for me." She said to him, remembering the look he had given her back in Vegas when nothing had seemed to phase her. She wondered if she should tell him about her meeting an older version of him. Would it change the future? | |

| "Ah. Well, we'll see when that happens, won't we?" The Doctor replied in the same tone from before, his attention shifting away from the screen and over to Alisha's face again with an encouraging smile. "I've been attacked by Daleks, Cybermen and weeping angels, and never had to use a weapon yet." He added, trying to get through to her that he didn't need or want them around. "Right! One more jump and we should be there, hold tight!" He said quickly, his hand already yanking the lever down as he spoke. "And back up again." Pushing the lever up again, he bounced away from the console and over to the doors. "Come on then, can't keep them waiting!" | |

| Alisha gave a sigh and followed him to the doors. "And how do we know they won't shoot first and ask questions later?" She asked him, getting worried that she was walking into danger. But then again, she loved danger. It was always fun and exciting. She concentrated on the matter at hand though. What ever lied beyond that door contained the location of the stone that they had stolen from a whole planet of innocent people who only wanted to live their lives. She took a deep breath and nodded, knowing that this was the right thing to do. The Doctor had a plan... she hoped. "Let's do this." She said to him. | |

| Grinning brightly at her, the Doctor placed his hand on the door then stopped to look at her, an odd expression on his face as if something had just struck him. "The reason I know they won't shoot first? The only species in the universe I know to do that are Daleks, Cybermen and... Humans. You lot, I swear, shooting at anything that moves or looks different, why do you think I fly around in a big blue box instead of a normal spaceship? Harder to notice, that's why, now come on."
Turning away, he pushed the door open a crack and peered out. Seeing nothing, he pushed the door open farther only to be met with the business end of a blaster pointed directly at his nose. "Ah, thought you might be around. Brought a friend, do you mind? I know there wasn't exactly an invitation so I can't say she's my plus one, can I? Oh well, too late now." He said brightly, straightening up and stepping outside to let Alisha out as well then shut the door tightly once she stood outside. "Oh look, a whole bandwagon. Hello! I'm the Doctor, from what I understand you took something that wasn't yours, not exactly a good thing to do."
The humanoid figures stared at them silently, listening to the Doctor in what could only be called confusion before looking at each other. Blue skin shining dully under the lights of the corridor in their spaceship cast aside any thoughts on them being human at all. "And what makes you say this... Doctor?" One of them barked from the back, his red eyes narrowed in suspicion while studying him and his companion curiously.
"Ah, see that planet you attacked was very docile, you killed off hundreds of them if I guess right." The Doctor said suddenly, the smile falling from his face as he spoke, eyes shining with a dangerous light. "So I'll tell you this only once. Give back what you took, and get away from here as far as you can."
The same man laughed suddenly at what he said, honestly amused that one man could dare threaten them and think he could survive. Seven blasters pointed at him and the woman with him, what did he honestly think he could accomplish? "And if we don't?"
"Then I'll make you." | |

| Alisha looked at the blaster, really not liking the look of it. "Won't shoot, Doctor?" She asked him, one of the people telling her to hush before continuing to point. Not as docile as the planet we were just on. And you won't let me carry a weapon to protect myself, Doctor. That kind of attitude is going to get us killed. She thought as she listened to the Doctor ramble on to some species that she was tempted to ask what they were. "Actually, I'm sorry to interrupt but.... What are you?" She asked them, knowing that the Doctor would probably answer the question before they would. But one could appreciate the effort she had put forward to at least get them to lower their weapons. | |
