Pool of Blood

Shauna ran up quickly to the top of the building, running away from them... from Torchwood. They were after her again, this time they were going to kill her; she feared death more than anyone and she ran to the edge of the rooftop and wobbled, catching a glimpse of London below before gaining her balance and stepping back so she didn't fall off.

She was holding something in her pocket, something that caused all of this... it caused this constant cat and mouse chase. Shauna heard angry men running up the stairs and she clenched her eyes shut as they bust open the door up onto the roof of the building; she looked back at the men as they angrily shouted at her to drop the item and put her hands in the air. Which she couldn't help but smirk and shake her head at the armed Torchwood soldiers. "Put the piece of TARDIS down!" They shouted at her angrily and a bright light shone on her, she hissed and narrowed her eyes at the brightness.

"Not a chance, boys." Shauna grinned like a maniac. Inside her head she was shouting at herself: "W-what are you doing?! Do as they say! They are going to kill you, I mean me... I mean us!" The argument could last for hours and no one on the outside could tell, Shauna was still grinning madly and the Torchwood men aimed at her with their guns, unaware of her special abilities (besides her speed and strength), "Give it up, Blood!" The men shouted. Shauna let out a small giggle, "Ah, I see you call me The Blood too huh?" She smirked slightly.

Braxien walked around the empty cargo ship he'd borrowed from a vendor on Ontario 42. It wasn't the most effective thing to travel in but it did what it was meant to do…

"Why can't you ever work properly, I've already had you fixed a dozen times!" Braxien said.

Beep! Beep!

Braxien glanced at the device, rolling his eyes. "Oh, now you decide to work!"

He pressed the button and a blue glow shone, Braxien set the coordinates of the ship and put it to orbit around the current planet. He disappeared.

Falling on his back with a large thump, he painfully got up and surveyed his surroundings. He found a troop of men, Torchwood by the look of it and a woman, she had pale-ish skin and white hair.

"What are you doing here?! Get this man out of the way!" Said one of the Torchwood men.

Braxien frowned and head butted the man in front, who released his gun and it transferred into his. "Okay, I may not know what the hell is going on but explain to me what…is going on. That sounded better in my head."

Shauna's eyes widened when she saw a man magically appear on the rooftop in front of the Torchwood  men. She tilted her head in slight confusion and her maniac grin had gone, she had come back to her senses. "W-who is that?" She muttered to herself. "Some magic man..." She said with her posh, Victorian accent. She sighed and looked around, she noticed the Torchwood men were now concentrated on the stranger and she smirked slightly, she went to walk along the edge of the roof and tried to get away but a Torchwood soldier noticed her and moved his aim to her again, "Don't move!" He shouted at her and she stopped and sighed, she raised her hands in the air, "You guys are no fun..." She pouted before walking towards the armed man and his eyes widened in fear as Shauna's fangs were showing while she grinned manically, "You are no fun at all!" She hissed angrily at him, she was being mental again! She hated herself for being this way... for being a maniac.

Braxien's eye widened as he saw fangs pop out, she was a vampire! He turned his gun from the men to the woman, keeping it trained on her. He had never really seen a vampire in action and it was a curiosity but as long as it wasn't him, it was fine. However, he couldn't leave the man for dead. Three words tumbled out of his mouth before his brain had time to process it.

"Leave him alone."

You're in trouble now, Braxy boy!

Braxien never really enjoyed shooting much, he most of the time enjoyed reading or catching up with the news but no, here he stands and chaos erupts around him.

"Step away from him and talk to me. No one shoot!" Braxien said.

"But she's dangerous! She might attack you sir!"

Braxien rolled his eyes. "Sir? No. Dangerous, possibly but I'll take the risk. So, whoever you are, please step away from the soldier."

Shauna hissed at the stranger, she thought he was a good man but seeing as he was like the Torchwood men, aiming his gun at her too, she sighed and backed away from the man and looked down slightly, "I-I am not dangerous!" She started to shake as if she was anxious and mad... really mad. She looked to the stranger, "Well, I will ask who you are and for you to not kill me and get rid of these Torchwood boys... they are chasing me everywhere." She sighed slightly. "Which I call harassment!" She hissed at the Torchwood soldiers angrily.

Braxien turned his head slightly, facing the Torchwood men. "Oh really now? Chasing you?"

He fired warning bullets over the men's heads, which startled them and nearly dropped their weapons.

"Ah, look! Someone to test on!" Braxien said sarcastically, mocking the men from Torchwood. "Let's chase her and drive her off a cliff! That is one brilliant idea…not. Look, she's different but if you don't bother her, she won't bother you. Win, win."

He then turned back to the woman, dropping his gun. The soldiers took aim, Braxien's arms spread wide open. "I dare you. I really dare you. You realize that you are attacking a pedestrian? That is most likely against your orders, huh?"

They lowered it and began to order their retreat.

Suddenly, I became conscious of the fact that the driver was in the act of pulling up the horses in the courtyard of a vast ruined castle, from whose tall black windows came no ray of light, and whose broken battlements showed a jagged line against the...

*SHRUCK*

The TARDIS seemed to jolt sideways as it forced itself out of the vortex, rushing back into normal space. The Doctor put down his book and quickly rose from his comfortable armchair, rushing over to the console. "There there old girl, whats the matter?" The Time Lord said as he brushed a reassuring hand along the console. Looking over to the scanner he could see the old Gallifreyan flashing at him, talking of a locational lock. "Where are you going?" The Doctor muttered to himself as the central column began to activate, signaling a materialization.

The Torchwood soldiers were all focused on the blood sucking monster and her strange friend that was threatening all of them but somewhere, deep behind their fear, their programming began to kick in at that noise. For some the old wheezing and whistling is a sound of hope, for others it is the sound of returning friends, but for Torchwood it has always been the sound of the enemy. And they all knew what it was, The Doctor had arrived.

Onboard the TARDIS The Doctor was still very concerned. He had been sitting in the vortex due to a small... technical error with the TARDIS, they shouldn't have been able to materialize, let alone drop straight out of the Vortex like that. "Well lets see where we are then," The Doctor said to his oldest companion as he left the console room and walked the small hallway to the entrance. Opening the doors and stepping out The Doctor was confronted with a number of things. Firstly there was some sort of vampire lady advancing on a group of soldiers, next was a different man, clearly not with the soldiers, who had his hands up and seemed to be talking the soldiers down. And finally there were the soldiers. It seemed they had been in the process of backing off, but when the TARDIS had landed they had swung around with new resolve and were now pointing their guns at him.

"Hello," The Doctor said as he fully emerged from the TARDIS while raising his hands. "I was just passing through and noticed you were all threatening one another, And I though perhaps I could help to calm the situation." The Doctor just continued to smile calmly at everyone, he didn't know who any of these people were, but humans don;t tend to shoot him when he is smiling... well most of the time at least.

Shauna hissed at the stranger and the Torchwood men. She heard a familiar groaning and wheezing sound as she looked to the man and his TARDIS, her eyes widened, "It's him... the Doctor!" She paused, "Wait he looks different... w-where's his scarf and fedora?" She pouted slightly, she obviously missed his scarf and fedora. She sighed and looked to the men before backing up to the edge of the rooftop, she completely snapped to her maniac side, "W-why is everyone after me?!" She screamed, her pupils were dilated due to her stress and her mental state, she held her head and looked down, murmuring to herself: "Calm down... j-j-just calm down..."

"The Doctor?" Braxien's eyes widened. He had met the Doctor before but he looked different. "You've changed."

Braxien didn't lower his hands as he knew that Torchwood men were aimed directly at the Doctor, so he blocked their vision of sight. He then glanced to the woman, who had probably snapped. He walked cautiously over to her, his arms lowering.

"I'm not going to hurt you, they are not going to shoot." Braxien said, glancing back at the men. The Doctor was still smiling, he rolled his eyes.

He got back up and picked up the gun, the men thought he would shoot but instead, he emptied the magazine and walked over to the others and managed to release the mag clips, sending bullets flying everywhere over the floor.

Shauna looked to him, her pupils still dilated and she was still shaking, "R-really...? B-b-but you are all after me..." She paused before holding her head and screaming, "I know what you all are! You want to hurt me!" She moved away from the men, she turned and sat on the edge of the rooftop and tears streamed down her cheeks, "Just.... j-j-just kill me already...!" She said with a small laugh, "I-I guess I deserve it! I always have done!"

She stood up and looked down to the city below, a tear rolled down her cheek and it fell off and plummeted to the ground. Shauna clenched her eyes shut and kept the rest of her tears in as she sniffled and turned around, "Doctor... i-it's nice seeing you again... t-thanks for lending me the fedora... b-b-but..." She looked behind her and down to London below, she got out the exact fedora - that he had given her in their previous encounter - from her pocket and she plopped it on her head with a small smile. "I-I can't stay here... n-not here! I should be with my families! All of them!" She was still completely insane and she grinned manically, "H-help me..." She said quietly through her grin.

"W-why is everyone after me?!" The pale girl screamed as she continued to back towards the ledge.

"Why do you think everyone is chasing you?" The Doctor said as he started to move a bit further out of the TARDIS, the soldiers cocked their rifles and a particularily corageous one decided to speak.

"Stay right where you are and keep your hands up Doctor," the solider stuttered out, apparently he wasn't very high up in this organisation. "I am arresting you on behalf of Britain and her Majesty the Queen"

"The Doctor?" The not quite a solider said, "you've changed."

"I do tend to make a habit of that," The Doctor consceeded with a wry smile, he then turned his attention to the soldiers. "And as for you lot, you seem to know how I am so I presume you know about the TARDIS?" The soldiers nodded, "well then can I ask why you'd want me to stay near it?" That seemed to distract them for a moment as they thought it through. "Secondly," The Doctor continued,"you say you're doing this in the name of the queen? Because I happen to know Queen Elizabeth, rather well in fact,we play bridge on Thursdays. And she would not order my death... Well at least not untill after bridge."

The soldiers continued to be confused by The Doctor's antics, but they had served their purpose. The not quite a solider had been fiddling with a device that was quite obviously a mag clip, and he set it off. The confusing swarm of Bullets caused the soldiers to duck and jump in an attempt to hit cover. The Doctor just ran straight through and bounded up close to the pale girl. She began rambling about a Fedora which.... Is that my hat? .. Regardless she seemed to be suffering from schizophrenia or some such illness. The pale girl slumped down to sit on the edge of the building and whispered "H-help me..."

"I'd like to do that," The Doctor said, moving to also sit upon the edge, though giving the girl enough space. "You seem to know I'm The Doctor but I don't know your name" The Doctor smiled at the girl before looking back over his shoulder at Mr Not-A-Solider, "and yours too."

Shauna stayed sat upon the edge of the rooftop, ignoring the noises of bullets around her. She looked over as she saw The Doctor sit next to her. She tilted her head in slight confusion, "H-how can you forget my name Doctor? I am The Blood... remember?" She asked curiously. "I met you when you had that funny scarf and-" She paused to point at the fedora she had on her head, "That fedora." She smiled at the memories and she sighed a little, looking down. "Why would you forget?" She said to The Doctor quietly as if she was upset about it, which she was. She sighed and hugged herself, slightly shaking, "I know you look different... but I don't know if you are an earlier Doctor or an later Doctor..." She muttered curiously.

"Braxien Lythis," Braxien said, extending his hand. "I believe we've met before."

He looked back at the soldiers. "You made up your mind? Harm or not to harm, tricky question, isn't it?"

"Sir, get out of the way. She was…our main priority. We will have to shoot you as well." Said another soldier.

Braxien was running out of patience. "Shut your trap! You clearly haven't gotten my hint! Lemme make it clearer to you, GET OUT OF HERE!"

But they just stood there, dumbfounded, shocked expressions plastered over their faces. Braxien raised his eyebrows and they finally took the hint and marched quickly back down to their HQ, some of them taking glances at some random civilian handing them orders.

"Now, I believe that has been taken care of…so, Doctor, how is she?"

The Doctor tok Brax's hand in a firm shake, "things tend to happen to me a bit out of order, so I apologise if I don't recall." The Doctor flashed him a smile before turning all his attention to the pale girl.

'She seems to know me from when I was younger' The Doctor pondered as she railed at him, 'must be from back with the scarf, I do miss that scarf.'

"I apologies if I've hurt your feelings, it's not that I have forgotten you, but more that I can't remember. When I regenerated last I lost most of my memories, I have a few of them back, but other spots are still missing," The Doctor said with a bit of a sad smile. "But you can help me remember," The Doctor reached a reassuring hand out towards The Blood, "where are you from? What brought you here to the roof? I want to help." The sincerity in The Doctor's eyes was palatable, somewhere in the back of his mind the memory of a pale girl in a hood and a fedora was still there, just waiting to be brought out.

The Doctor had noticed Brax's actions, but sine he was focused on Ms Blood he didn't yet respond.

Shauna sighed sadly before hearing what The Doctor had said. She looked to him and smiled slightly, she took his hand and she stood up off the edge. "I am from Earth... just I know my father wasn't from here..." She wandered off slightly in thought before returning back to reality to answer his other question, "Torchwood were after me because of this-" She took out a piece of TARDIS from her pocket and she showed The Doctor, "I don't know how they got this piece but I guess I sort of saved it than stole it." She sighed a little before passing The Doctor it, "Here. This is should be yours." She said with a gentle smile. "I know you TimeLords love your time machines." She lightly smirked and crossed her arms, she felt something burning she looked to her hands and she quickly put them back in her pockets; she sighed in relief that her hands hadn't gone to ash.

Braxien watched the exchange, half worried that the soldiers would change their minds, but also for the Doctor's sake. If she was claimed to be dangerous, it could be possible to have her attack him but seeing that she seemed to know him, the thought was pushed to the back of his mind.

But he wondered what took the Doctor to take so long in order to reply to his question. "So, Doctor. How is she?"

He really needed to get a newspaper as he felt so out of sync with the world, not knowing what time, era, century or day of the week it was.

He looked at the exchange of what the Blood said was a bit of the TARDIS. "Just another thought, it's a bit cold up here, could we go anywhere warmer and talk about it then?"

He was hinting at the TARDIS as he caught on that not many would want her presence down town and considering that the Torchwood people would have been told off, they wouldn't follow his command a second time.

The Doctor stood up at the reveal of the TARDIS piece, it was a part of The TARDIS'S directional matrix, the device that allowed better control over flight of the old girl. The Doctor slowly reached out and grabbed the piece,"Thank you Ms Blood... Sorry do you have another name? It is a just a bit on the nose to keep calling you a bodily fluid."

The Doctor turned back to face Brax, "yes sorry, Ms Blood seems lovely and I hope she feels better now that the soldiers are gone, thank you for that. And you are right, we could perhaps go somewhere a touch warmer, both of you are welcome to join me in The TARDIS." With that The Doctor strode off into his Blue Box, still fascinated by the piece The Blood had given him. Passing through the doors and down the short corridor The Doctor entered the console rom, The Gothic setting and bat like creatures may set a dower setting for some, but The Doctor found the surrounds very cosy. Moving to the console The Doctor fiddled around the base looking for his toolbox, finding it under the directional panel he pulled out an ocular enhancer, checking over the TARDIS piece as he waited for his new compatriots to enter.

"Well, I am called The Blood by those who I work with and those who fear me... so I am used to that. But if you want to call me by my real name... it is Shauna." Shauna slightly hesitated to say her name but she eventually said it with a nervous smile. She walked over to the TARDIS and followed The Doctor in. She smiled at the Gothic setting as it reminded her of her apartment with the bat like creatures.

Shauna's eyes widened at the pretty looking console and she placed her hand against it, "So pretty." She said with a happy grin and her fangs came out. As she stroked the console the TARDIS made a groan as if it was liking the compliments but she was unsure and just looked to it with a small smile. "She is such a beauty..." She muttered slightly, not even noticing The Doctor with his toolbox.

Koriand'r had been watching the scene from up in the sky and she also watched as the TimeLord, the Vampire and the Human went into a small phone box. Well... that is what she thought it was and she knew that phone boxes were very small and even she couldn't fit in one properly without feeling compressed and isolated.

She flew down in front of the TARDIS and walked in circles around it before politely knocking on the door, hoping no traps or sirens would go off.

"Hello? Is any person in there?" She called at the TARDIS - also her English wasn't the best - before sighing a little and she backed away a couple of steps from the TARDIS, her hands went on fire as she readied herself for an attack from the three people that had gone inside previously.

Braxien followed both the Doctor and the Blood into the TARDIS, she introduced herself as Shauna. He went in last, checking for more intruders or people that were out to get her. He didn't notice the figure in the sky, as he shut the door behind him.

"Well! That's much warmer!" He said, slinging his jacket over his shoulder.

Seconds later, a knock came at the TARDIS's door.

"I'll get it." Braxien said. He wondered whether it was another Torchwood member, coming back and had changed his mind but it was highly unlikely.

He opened it, quickly poking his head out and looking around. He spotted a woman figure standing in front, she seemed to not originate from this planet or was out partying too hard last night.

"Who are you?" He asked. He looked back inside to the console, "Hey, Doctor! Anyone have a clue to who this might be?"

Koriand'r blinked at the Human has he peered his head out of the TARDIS doors. She then grinned happily as she was happy he hadn't tried to kill her yet.

"I am Princess Koriand'r of Tamaran, it is a pleasure of mine to meet you." She said before bowing a little to the Human.

"I watched from the clouds and saw that Torchwood was after the Vampire... i-is she ok?" She asked with worry in her voice.

He was running, huffing painfully as tiny legs propelled him in a full on sprint. The calls of his Mrs. Bensworth still rang in his ears, "Tyler!" but he had no time to stop, no time to explain or even care he was breaking a rule. It had been so long, so bloody long since he'd felt even a brush of that blue box through his bones. But it had come about again, motivated him, gave him hope, and he was off.

Lucius skidded to a halt at a building, staring upward since that was where the reverberation was coming from. His blood sang as he quickly latched onto the latter and started climbing upwards. Why was it on the roof? Did it matter? It was here. Here.

And he made it, pulling himself up and staring at the deepest blue he felt he ever saw. The small boy took slow steps to the box, the hum in his body growing louder and louder, stronger and stronger until finally he rested his hand on the wood. This was real, it was happening, it couldn't be a dream. Lucius' head bent forward to rest on it, a sigh escaping him until he heard the murmur of voices from the other side. He didn't recognize either of them and it made him feel discouraged. Where was the Doctor? The will to remain hidden overpowered that to search so he sat with his back pressed against the TARDIS, head rested on it and knees pulled up to his chest.

Where is he..?

The Blood looked out the TARDIS doors and she went out and she smiled at Koriand'r, "Oh hello Princess Kori, it is nice to meet you again." She said with a happy grin, her fangs showing clearly. She then turned to see a little boy and her eyes widened slightly and she blinked, she shut her mouth so her fangs wouldn't scare the boy, she hid them away while she spoke to him. "Hello there... who are you?" She asked curiously and she wondered why the boy was sat up against the TARDIS with his knees pulled up to his chest. "Are you ok?" She asked with some worry, she never liked seeing sad or even hurt children, it reminded her of herself too much.

Lucius gave a start as he looked up at the woman, his brows furrowing in confusion. Why was she on the roof? Had she been with the Doctor? Well, why else would she be here? He slowly got to his feet while he appraised the stranger, coming to the conclusion that she wasn't here to hurt him if she was nice enough to ask a question like that.

"I'm Tyler. I'm okay, I was just lookin' for someone and heard.... who are you?"

Well, there went the plan to remain unseen or unheard. Well, strangers didn't usually know he was a runaway. Plus if she was travelling with the Doctor, no matter what face he wore, she must not be a bad person. Actually, the Doctor didn't travel with anyone who wasn't nice or trustworthy so Lucius didn't feel very threatened by her.
