| Returning to normal society had probably been the hardest thing Ramona had ever done. Going from a wild animal to a refined human being was more difficult than she ever could have expected. Milera latched onto the transfer as a leech would to ones skin, drawing every ounce of information she possibly could from the world around her. Ramona had been terrified, utterly and completely terrified that something would go wrong. New York was a vast and unforgiving jungle of energy and life that could a) devour you alive, or b) grant you stability in its quarter. Mayhap she should not have worried as she did, from the very beginning Milera was on her toes and finding ties for them in people that Ramona would not have dreamed knowing. How in the world did she do it? Dismal hatred for her breeding aside, her ability to adapt was unfounded! How easily she squared away a place for them to stay, how simple it was for her to raise them through the city status until Ramona was staring out of the spit-clean windows of a studio apartment. That was four years ago now.
She could still re-call hiding from the Doctor that day, holding Milera close and trying to explain why they could not go with him. Why it was not safe and how sometimes leaving him was the best thing that anyone could do, Lord knows it was not the first time. With a steely face Ramona had watched him leave that day, a small sliver of self-hatred eking a home into her heart. Things would never be the same between them after that she knew, he would most likely never open up to her the same, would not talk to her the same. She was no better than anyone else, just another companion. Albiet a four-hundred and something year old companion- but a companion none the less.
Thursday, January 23, 2014. Ramona bustled through the kitchen, red fingers plucking hamburger from a recently torn package and depositing it sloppily into a skillet. The raw meat sizzled deliciously within a film of butter that coated the bottom, promising a future of flavor and fulfillment. She hummed quiet songs to herself, her mind translating the words into another language out of habit while a smile touched her lips. Milera was out with a friend this evening, leaving her plenty alone until eight or nine, thus enabling her to have a good dinner and a few flutes of wine before having to engage the wily teen. In the end her decision to leave had ultimately been a good one, with the speed at which the child learned she had acclimated beautifully and grown into a splendid young woman. The only downfall being that she resembled her father... a lot. Not saying she was ugly, but the reminder had Ramona on edge at times, especially when Milera was angry and her features contorted to match her feelings. The woman stopped her busying and stood complacently in front of the stove, toying listlessly with the vortex manipulator attached to her right forearm.

| Avril grinned madly, checking over her shoulder as she continued to sprint away from the police. It wasn't very often she got to travel somewhere as far as New York, so she was going to make the most of it while it lasted. And what better way to spend the day than playing building tag? It was a shame so many people were unaware of such enjoyment - most of them not even knowing what it felt like to blow up a simple cart, let alone a corner store. She was up to 3 in a row, but now it was starting to get harder to keep away from the authorities. Blasted people, did they have no concept of fun?
Well what next? Somewhere it'd be harder to ruin, so they wouldn't bother checking, but still doable. Well, at least to an extend to where she'd give up knowing she liked doing it. The first place to catch her eye was a simple apartment building, which couldn't have been more than 5 or 6 stories tall. Right? Probably. She didn't care to check. All she knew was she was already rushing through the lobby and towards the stairs, ignoring any attention if she had any. She didn't know, nor did she care. Alright, so about 6 stories, that made the 3rd one the center. Ish. Close enough. The second she made it to the level, she slammed the door behind her and resumed a casual strolling pace. Not so hard, then, was it?
Pressing her ear to a few doors, she tried to listen and see if anyone was home. Honestly she wouldn't have cared if it didn't increase her chance of being caught and ending her streak. After a few moments of listening, she came across a door without a sound behind it. Not one that she could hear. Or maybe they were just very, very quiet people inside. With a shrug, she knocked on the door and waited. And waited. And after about three seconds, she was regretting losing her bobby pin. Perhaps she should try somewhere with someone to let her in...

| Busying himself at the console, the Doctor idly fiddled with the controls in front of him, deep in thought over what he should do next. Robin was out having time to herself, leaving the Time Lord with too much time on his own. Lately it had been a blessing to have the child around, granted it was a tad irritating with her constant questions. 'She isn't a child anymore, though, is she? Technically a teenager now. He thought with idle amusement, silently shaking his head at the constant habit of calling her a child. She was compared to him, but in Human terms, she was old enough to take care of herself without being questioned about it.
With a heavy sigh, the Doctor eyed the screen beside him, his mind working frantically for something to pass the time, something to distract him from the memories that had begun to rear their heads. Mostly of Ramona and her child, how the expression on her face hardened when she realized how attached he had become to her and the small girl. 'Domestic, I was. Gettin' bloody used to it in fact.' He grumbled, beginning to wander around the round console, his hands reaching out automatically to adjust several of the controls when he passed them, eyes trained on nothing in particular. "Righ' then! Random button it is! 'Old on!" He announced to the empty room, biting back the grimace that threatened to overtake his usual, exuberant smile when all he heard was his voice echoing back.
Reaching over, he flicked the randomizer then latched onto the edge of the console tightly with one hand while the other reached out to yank the lever down. Grimly determined to forget everything that tried to bother him at the moment, wanting to push aside the pained lance through his hearts as the image of her face rose up once more, cold, emotionless, but her eyes told the real story. Her eyes haunted him even now, years later.

| Her thoughts ran in a trickle through her head, ranging from what Milera might have been doing to the 'Sound of Music' which she had recently been treated to see on Broadway. Needless to say it was phenomenal and Ramona had the Von Trapp children stuck in her throat. She switched from her current humming to singing aloud, serenading an invisible girl going on seventeen, splattering grease across the cupboards as she twirled. If only, if only... A knock came at the door, Ramona stilled and glanced through the opening in the wall toward the hall. She was not expecting anyone? It was not Milera for she was still half-way across the city.
The petite woman gave a short huff, tossing the spatula carelessly to the counter and adjusting the fire while wiping slick hands on her skirt. It better have been a tele-marketer, she could tell them off easily enough and get on with her night! Of course with her luck it was trouble. Not two steps had been taken off the linoleum when the entire building shuddered, the concrete skeleton groaned and dry-wall exploded across her living room. Ramona stumbled with a surprised gasp on parted lips, hands searching frantically for a stable surface to grip. Water gushed in an arc from the wall, which part of it had been chipped away to reveal the piping to the bathroom. She could only gawp in shock and horror as her vision cleared and hazel eyes spied the culprit. This was not how she wanted this evening to go. Pain jerked on the string attached to her heart, she grimaced and bit her lip as anxiety raced a scalding path through her veins. The knocking had ceased, but that did not excuse the star-blue telephone box thrown on its side in her den, Ramona groaned.
It was almost painful to let go of what was left of the far wall, and make her way through the rubble and debris. She could hear the neighbors squawking about all the noise but otherwise no police sirens or helicopters rushing to interview the damage. It was only with past knowledge that she understood the TARDIS' veiling ability when danger was abroad, she imagined that everyone else was seeing the perfectly pristine exterior of the apartment building. Ramona was going to have a talk with that machine, no matter how much she dismayed the coming encounter. In the mean time she swiped at the pale grey hair in her face, dust settling in a milky layer across her skin as she stepped over some PVC pipe. "Darn it Nine!" she bit, growling miserably as she grabbed the knob and threw open the front door. Caring little that she looked worse for wear "can I help you?" Ramona smiles.

| Avril's eyes widened as she jumped back at the loud crashing from inside, nearly loosing her footing from the vibrations. What the bloody hell was that? Well obviously someone was inside if they were making that kind of racket, so it was a bit rude of them to ignore her for this long. Raising her fist to pound on the door again, she heard some muffled shouting from inside before it flew open in front of her. Oh. Bright grin returning to her face, she invited herself inside, examining just about all of the room except the phone box in the wall.
'No, don't think I'll be needing any help for this, but the assistance could be nice. You don't happen to like fire, do you? Anyway - what was that-' She was cut off as she finally caught sight of the TARDIS, mouth open in awe. Now that. She didn't even know what to think of that. A sane person might ask what the hell that was doing in the wall, or why it was here in the first place, but she had better, more important questions. For instance, how easy would that be to burn? It'd do quite nicely for starting the fire she needed. Or maybe, she could ask something the woman might actually have an answer to. Too bad she didn't really have any of those.
'... I think you need a new interior designer. Boxes emerging from walls are not 'in', I can assure you.'

| Propping himself against the edge of the door frame, the Doctor looked at the two woman standing there with an idle look of amusement on his face. Once he got over the inital shock of the landing then the second shock of spying Ramona and Avril in the same room, he relaxed while they spoke to each other, waiting for the moment to jump into their conversation. "An' I can assure you, they are 'in'." He announced brightly, a wide grin appearing on his face while he spoke, stepping away from the ship, mentally taking note to chastise her later about the landing and bringing him here. "Didn't mean to drop in. Put the TARDIS on random on a whim. ended up 'ere. Didn't think I would, to be honest. But 'ere I am anyway." He added, throwing his arms out to gesture about the apartment around them.
Turning around in a small circle, he took in the interior. Really, it was a mess, granted that was his fault, well, his ship's fault, but he learned his lesson about accusing and blaming the TARDIS for a horrible landing. Last time he did that, he ended up on a planet full of people that decided he was an animal of some sort because of his jacket. Shaking his head, he rolled his eyes towards the ceiling before turning back to the girls with another wide smile. "Well, 'ow 'ave you been, Ramona?"

| Surprise! The young woman outside her door just brushed right past, letting herself into the damaged apartment while on some tangent about fire and helping her. Ramona stood there, back against the wall and jaw dislodged in an 'o.' What the hell even was this? What in the bloody frick was going on? How dare this putrid little thing just waltz into her home like she owned the darn place and how dare the Nine- for she knew it was nine, it always was- just BURST into her home like some crazed lunatic. Ramona's eyes were wide and her sides were beginning to heave with the starts of a panic attack. Her lungs were so tight, her chest felt shriveled and she just wanted to scream. This was not how the day was supposed to go, Milera would be back in just a few hours! How the frick was she going to explain all of this mess? Because if she had anything to say about it than there was no way the Doctor would be around when her daughter came home. The two of them shared a connection that terrified Ramona on a whole new level, and witnessing it had brought on the decision to leave in the first place.
But there he was, going on, gesticulating as though nothing was wrong and he had just casually stopped in for a visit. Randomizer be damned, Ramona knew better and within seconds had narrowed fierce eyes at the blue box. "You and I are going to have some words." She seethes, feeling the electric surge of the being in her mind, Ramona swatted her away. Turning her attention toward the man she literally growled and stalked toward him, fists drawn and eyebrows knitted into oblivion "Why? WHY? Why now Jesus CHRIST do any of your other companions get honored by your presence this often? WELL?" Ramona shrieks with no remorse, panic and anger setting a steady tempo into her heart. But wait! "YOU!" she whirls to face the strange girl, "Light a match and see what happens you es-venh iil cuorr!" There was no helping the lapse into foreign language, there were little dots of black in her vision and she could see stars.
This was not how the evening was supposed to go.

| Avril blinked, looking from the odd man who seemed to reside in the box in the wall to the woman on the verge of a stroke just because a few people showed up. Stroke? Was that the word? Well it was now. Oh, and now she was being shouted at in a foreign language. That was nice. But she wouldn't have to strike any matches to burn something down, so she wasn't too worried about it. What she did care about, however, was what the hell that box was doing.
Nodding her head to the woman, she hurried over to the TARDIS, acting as if she had something better to do. Which, to be quite honest, she did - the box was more interesting than the lady. Peering her head inside, she raised an eyebrow, contemplating what she was seeing. 'Bigger on the inside... Nice.' Not exactly normal or possible, really, but nice. Spinning around, she decided to try and stay out of whatever was about to happen here and get on with her work. The place was already wrecked, surely she wouldn't mind if she blew it up, too. If the box was bigger on the inside, would it be any harder to turn to ash? Probably. But what else in here was big and flammable enough for her to get this done quickly?

| Reaching out, the Doctor grabbed Avril by the back of her collar and pulled the woman to a stop. "'Old up, I remember you now. Bit of a fire bug." He rumbled, choosing to focus on the easier target for the moment. "Jus' sit down and relax." He added, tugging her over to a chair and releasing the collar so she could sit then took a slow breath before turning around to face Ramona. From the look on her face, she was livid at his sudden, and rather abrupt, appearance. "Righ'." He said helplessly, running a hand over his short hair idly while trying to think of something to say that might diffuse the situation before finally noticing the slightly faint look replacing the livid one.
Striding over, he gripped her by the arms, slowly maneuvering her towards the other chair that wasn't destroyed by his ship and crouched down in front her, hands resting lightly on her knees while he simply stared up at her face. "Ramona. Don't be angry. Not really my fault I showed up. Was thinkin' 'bout you when I hit the randomizer. TARDIS prolly thought I wanted to see you." The Doctor said softly, refusing to look away from her eyes while he spoke, already feeling the slight pulse of pain in his hearts. "I'll go, alrigh'? Won't see this daft face again."

| The woman, whose name had yet to be revealed, strode right past Ramona... again and directly up to the TARDIS. Mumbling little things, Ramona could feel the twist and turns of her mind but not what exactly she was thinking, reds and oranges spiked against the backs of her eyes. But maybe that was her anger... no, that was this woman's thoughts. Suddenly nine had turned to her, after grabbing the other girl, he gripped her by the arms and forced her to move backward. Ramona put up no fight in lieu of the surprise, her stance wavering at his confidence. If you could call it that.
He got down on his knees after pushing her into a seat, he settled himself between her legs and rested leather arms on her knees. Ramona almost choked on the scent of cigar-smoke and cedar wood, memories of sweet nothings rising to the forefront of her thoughts, memories of when they would come together when Milera was not around. She shuddered and pain pulsed through her entire being, it hurt so bad, touching- even worse when he mistook her anger for hatred and the desire to see him go. Ramona bit back the tears as best she could, how dare he think such stupid things. Decisions had been made four years ago for the sake of her daughter, of the young time lords survival and growth- that and an irrational fear that nine would be happy to leave Ramona behind when Milera came of age. That was a truth that hurt to admit, even to herself, but even more so out in the open planes of her mind where he could see it. See the fears that drove her to leave him, not that she wanted too. He was a wild spirit an animal that could not be bound, but was that not what he was doing to himself by having her around? God she wanted to go on adventures with him, but there was no way to deny the pleasure of living a solitary life with her child. It had not been a bad time away, now he was back and she did not know what to do.
Raw emotion flooded through her, pressing hotly at the anger that bubbled in her chest. "Oh that's not what a want nine quit being dramatic-" she brought tentative fingers up to brush along his jaw before narrowing hazel eyes "How dare you even suggest that I would want such a thing you fool, now the eclipse of not only a stranger barging into my home and the matter of your lovely TARDIS crashing through my wall..." She breathes "That is another hot potato entirely."

| Avril yelped, hands coming up to her neck as she was dragged backwards into a chair. Did she know him? How did he know her? They'd never met! How the bloody hell did that happen? Maybe she had another blackout or something. Oh well. Crossing her arms over her chest, she watched the man move over to the lady and bring her down to her own chair - heh - and suddenly become very dramatic. Those two. They were obviously in love. Nothing could be more obvious. Well maybe the color blue so long as you weren't color blind. Back to the point. It was so clear that each of them was in love with the other - how could neither of them notice? So of course, she said what she thought just honestly needed to be said.
'This is the worst soap opera I've ever seen. Can't the happy couple just kiss and make up? Yeah? Good.' And with that, she was on her feet and wandering about the room, picking up this thing and that, looking for something that could potentially collapse the building.

| The Doctor looked up at Ramona's face, a slow grin working it's way across his face as he took in her words. "Yeah? Good then, cos' I really didn't want to go." He added wryly before straightening up and glancing over at Avril with a slight grimace crossing his features. Faint memories popping up in his head as the girl roamed around. "Really, you ough' to just go." He mumbled, eying the room before spotting a potential collapse and debating on what tools he'd need to restore the apartment back to it's normal state. "I'll just move the TARDIS. Gimme a mo' an' I'll be back, yeah?"
Turning to look at Ramona, he debated on something silently for a moment before flashing her a bright grin and disappeared inside the blue box, already swearing at the ship mentally while he set it up to land itself in a cubby down the hall from where her apartment was and stepping out with a small box full of tools and striding back into the apartment, looking every bit the handyman he planned on attempting to be with his jacket slung over his shoulder and jumper sleeves rolled up to his elbows while he studied the damage with a slight wince. "Yeah, get righ' on that."

| Ramona Rigby Eden slumped down inside the comforter that she had been forced into, no longer thinking it was such a bad choice after all. She forced the muscles in her back to relax, accepting the plush massage of the chairs corduroy covering, and using it as a therapeutic tool. Because frankly, she was ready to pop a few heads, finish making her dinner and call it a day. Surely Milera would accept whatever excuse she came up with for why there was a hole in the wall, the girl was very trusting after-all. Ramona groans and curls her limbs up to her body, resting her face against her knees and listening to the rustling of her unexpected guests.
Nine she could have probably handled on his own, but this strange girl in addition to the continuously mentioned hole in her home sort of took the cake. It was right about now that Ramona could have finished a whole bottle of Merlot on her own and had no qualms about the hang-over, as long as it made her mind fuzzy and her body numb. "Oh I'm getting too old for this..." The woman whispers wistfully into her knees. The Doctor arrived from removing his TARDIS but still Ramona remained prone and immovable, unwilling to give up the small sliver of comfort she had obtained. Though what the strange girl was doing she had no clue.

| Avril glanced up from a particularly interesting bit of the kitchen with wide eyes, shocked to see that the wooden box was gone. Well there went that idea - not that it would've worked well, anyway. But how'd it do that? That was... well... That was cool. With a bit of a smirk, she went back to looking at the semi-raw meat on the stove, assuming the lady had turned it off before the ruckus had started. She could catch the stove on fire. But with Mr. Fix-It over there - wait when did he come back? - she'd never get anything done.
What now, then? The cops would catch up with her soon if she didn't get moving, but she didn't want to end her streak. Maybe she could go knocking on the neighbor's door and cause some damage in there. Nah, might as well make the best out of the current situation, seeing as half the work was already done for her if she could keep whats-his-face out of her way. 'You know I never really caught your names,' She mentioned casually, flicking the stove on and off with an unusual amount of interest.

| Flipping out his sonic, the Doctor placed it between his teeth and began scanning the large hole in front of him with an odd-looking device that beeped occasionally before letting out a slight whirring noise and blinking with a red light. "Mmm 'e ockor." He mumbled around the item, focusing entirely on the flat screen facing him with a small frown of concentration before fiddling with the buttons on the side, changing it's settings and aiming it at the wall again, watching as the edges of the hole patched up slowly.
Glancing over his shoulder, the Doctor shot a quick grin over at Ramona then turned back to his work and set the device down to fumble through the box beside him, searching for something else that would speed up the process instead of standing in one place for three hours straight trying to fix the wall as slowly as he was at the moment.

| Ramona could not help the vague tendrils of disgust over the whole situation. Was she terribly unhappy? Not at all, did she want them all to get out? Sort of. But she was in no place to make demands when Nine would freely patch her home back together. Although the girl... names? The woman glances up with a low rumble in her throat. "I never offered, you on the other hand," Ramona sniffs "Can speak up anytime you like." This little fire-bug- according to Nine- was getting nothing from her. Least of all a name. And let her try to start fires on Rami's carpet, she would be confronted with a force she has surely never seen in her life.
When you have four-hundred thirty-eight years under your belt, you learn a thing or two about honest intimidation. As well as methods that may or may not be... helpful to the cause. Ramona wrinkles her nose and runs long, red fingers through the dusty grey of her mane; capturing the newly grown mass into a nest at the base of her neck. Having her hair out of the way almost seemed to take a weight off her shoulders, and Ramona uttered a sigh.

| 'Doctor? Doctor who?' Avril raised an eyebrow, her attention directed at the odd man before the woman caught her attention once more. Rude. That's what she was, rude. No matter. If she wasn't going to give her a name to call her, she'd make up one of her own. Susan? No, that was too dull. Something fun and out of the ordinary, maybe even slightly insulting. It would either tempt her to give her proper name, or at least entertain Avril enough to bother remembering the face. Slinking out of the kitchen, she circled the chair the poor woman sat in for a moment before crouching behind her, head peeking over her shoulder. 'You seem upset. Stressed? Hm?' Scurrying in front of her, she sat on her knees with her hands clasped together. 'Deep breaths. Come on Gertrude, let it out.' Now that she thought of it, calling her a stereotypical old lady name wasn't going to help, but hey, she'd definitely remember her now. | |
