Reflect (10/Sonya)

The sound of temporal displacement echoed down the empty streets of Tr'aloor, the dust gathered in the corners disturbed by a sudden wind as Sonya popped into being, a disgruntled expression locked into place on her face. Stumbling slightly, the Time Lady regained her balance and tossed a look around the empty settlement and frowned. "Well... Not what I quite expected showing up here." She announced to the ghost town before dusting herself off and stridng down the street, curious despite the fact she should have been disturbed with the empty town, that should have been a busy center of activity instead.

"So.. Empty town where it should have been busy." Sonya announced to no one at all, hands flung out wide while she turned in a slow circle, trying to spot something, anything that would explain what happened. All she wanted was a trip to get used to running about again, and to stop by their market to find some spare parts to Keep on hand in case her manipulator decided to have an additude. "This is a bit unnerving."

(Yea, sucky but using a tablet and Its being tempramental.)

Dong....Dong The Doctor eyed his home made device curiously, raised eyebrows and a slightly open mouth as he held it out and paced around in a circle. The room around him was covered in dust, webs and clouded white furniture sat at the edge of the room. A bookshelf loomed over form of The Doctor, who nearly smacked into it upon spinning around. Looking back at the bookshelf, The Doctor took a step back, "Sorry" he mumbled, walking over to a nearby window and cracking it open.

Sticking his device out, the machine registered another Dong, much to the displeasure of The Doctor who pulled it back inside and smacked it, "You're a machine that goes ding! Why are you...dong..ing?!" he hissed. Glancing up, The Doctor's eyes wavered over the sight on the opposite side of the window then danced back down to the machine, his mind not yet registering what he saw. Stopping, The Doctor looked back up and rushed to the window, this time shooting his head out and peering from side to side, "Hello!?" he called out. Pulling his head back in, The Doctor stood up straight and squinted his eyes as his minds gears began to crank and ponder what was happening around him.

Outside the window sat a street, a street wielding holes patched with grass that fought the concrete for control of each and every inch of the road. Cars sat where they had been for years, years of deterioration and erosion had left just a shell of what it used to be, the rusty frame all that was left. Buildings stood tall, but so did the vines and greenery that had climbed their sides and rooted in place and would continue to do so until the buildings eventually crumbled. "Since when has a town..a town on Tr'aloor much less....become abandoned?".

(Tablet again just warning ya)

During a rather curious inspection of a bit of rubbish she had found laying in the street, Sonya nearly jumped out of her skin at sudden voice shouting through the silence. The first thing to register was it was male, the Second to register was it was familiar. Almost too familiar, sending a prickle racing across the skin on the Back of her neck and an unbidden smile to start growing. Dropping the wrapper back to the ground, she headed in the direction she heard it come from, her feet picking up the pace until she was running.

A flicker of movement behind a window caught her attention, making her skid to a stop and grin for a moment before forcing down the grin and assume a bland expression. Passing a hand through her hair idly, Sonya ducked into the open door and walked quietly through the empty house until she reached the room a familiar form stood, her eyes tracing over it then came to rest on the device in his hands.

Clearing her throat, Sonya leaned a shoulder against the doorjam next to her, arms folded across her chest and a wry smile on her face. "You know, any normal person would ask why you were here in an empty town. Then again, I never could pass myself off as normal now, could I?"

The Doctor looked over to the woman who now stood in the center of the doorway, the scent he smelt nearly unbearable and registered as meaning only one thing. Time Lord. Walking slowly over to her, The Doctor extended his head, squinting at her until he came within a foot of touching her. There he stopped and eyed her carefully, "Should i know you?" he asked her, "No! No! No! Hold on! Sshh! Sssh!!" he exclaimed, jolting back in a whirl of thought and excitement.

With widened eyes, The Doctor began to deduct who she was based solely on what she looked like and a spoke just a moment prior. "Cocky personality...completely mad hair...outspoken..and the hint of iron" He deducted before he looked back at her, this time glaring into her heart and soul through her eyes, "Darkness....pain...one word...one name...". Standing up straight, The Doctor released a sigh and for a moment didn't say anything then released a heart broken forced smirk. "You never could just let yourself go could you?" He finally spoke, "Too much like me i suppose.....hello Sonya".

A flicker of pain shone in Sonya's eyes at his words before she masked it with the usual sparkle of mischief and half-smirk. "Yeah, well, I have too many Things left to do. Besides, you never could get rid of me for Long, you know that." Trailing off slightly, she fell silent, her eyes going out of focus while she Thought to herself, a small frown growing on her face. "Like a bad penny I suppose." Shaking herself suddenly, Sonya flashed another grin at the Doctor and lifted her shoulder in a half shrug. "Oh Well. Problem at hand. Empty settlement where there should be a busy hive of actvity. Normal thing for us. Any ideas?"

Striding into the room fully, she began inspecting various objects, carefully avoiding looking directly at the Doctor while she did. In all honesty if she was truthful to herself, it felt off being around him again. After their last meeting on equal grounds, she had been behind the glass and he had his hand on the button. It was obvious he was feeling upset over something himself After realizing it was her. "And to tell the truth, I never really died, Space boy. I had my own way to escape."

(I know hun. I didn't want to bug you. I was just bored the other night.)

"No...no, far from normal Sonya. There's something off about this place" The Doctor mumbled, squinting as a sudden scent wavered in front of his nose and snagged his attention away. Bolting to the open window, The Doctor peered out, glancing up and down the street before popping his head back in and looking around. "Do you hear that?" He asked Sonya before rushing over to her, "Sssh ssshh ssshh!!" he hissed, putting a finger up to her lips before she could speak, "Cant you hear it?".

Walking through the archway and into the living room, The Doctor eyes gazed across the dust covered furniture before dashing over and placing his ear against the wall nearest to him. Reaching inside of his coat, The Doctor pulled out the stethoscope and placed it against the wall. There he stood for the next several minutes, listening, waiting patiently until he heard it again. "Gotcha!" The Doctor exclaimed, jumping back from the wall and gesturing Sonya over to his side, "Listen! Put this on and listen through the wall" he instructed her as he tossed her the stethoscope.

Running back through the archway, The Doctor peered around the corner to see what was exactly behind the wall he was previously listening to. Once sure of what he saw, The Doctor re-entered the living room with Sonya, "Did you hear it?" he asked her, "Voices. A lot by the sound of it..a party or...gathering of some kind. Just beyond this wall...but not on the other side" he added as he placed his ear back onto the wall.

Grinning slightly at his display of irratic behavior, Sonya complied and put the stethascope on and listened to the wall for a moment, her eyes widening slightly at the sounds drifting to to her ears. Looking over at the Doctor, she furrowed her eyebrows together in Thought. "So voices that are here, but people that aren't. Dimentional distortion Maybe?" Taking the stethascope out of her ears, she pressed one to the wall and listened closer. The voices were there, but not loud enough to make out the exact words being said." It doesn't sound like they even know it either. They don't sound panicked anyhow..."

Straightening up, Sonya walked over to the window and stuck her head out, listining carefully to the wind blowing, trying to catch any sounds that might be carried along by it. "It could be just this town, or the whole planet. Point being is how did this even happen? It couldn't be a crack, could it? I mean it was one thing for it to happen then, but again? On a planet we both happen to be on at the same time?" Turning around, she locked her eyes on the Doctor with a frown." I don't like these odds, Doctor man."

Turning Back to the window, she watched the empty street quietly, trying to shake the crawling feeling that started on the Back of her neck, a hand reaching up to rub the skin there. Now she heard the voices, it was hard to ignore the faint whispers that seemed to surround them in the stillness.

The Doctor shrugged, "Not sure" he mumbled, squinting as he looked around the room, placing his tongue at the top of his mouth as he pondered deeply. "Well to start things off, the TARDIS couldn't land" He continued, beginning to pace the living room, "The sound of the cloister bell got me to check outside the doors...next thing i know i'm laying face down in the middle of a road. Then i see this place. So on first thought i'd say there has to be some sort of trans-dimensional interference..keeping the TARDIS from properly landing here. Last time i dealt with something like this, it was because of The Trickster...can't be the same thing".

Suddenly a voice cried out clean as day from another room, a small girls voice calling out and immediately catching The Doctor's attention. The Doctor bolted out into the main hall in front of the front door of the house, peering up the stairs and to the rooms on the floor level. When the voice called out again, The Doctor rushed up the stairs, turned left and bull rushed the nearest door to his right. Inside the room stood nothing but dust and a lone mirror covered by a drape. The Doctor walked slowly to the standing mirror with caution, "Hello? Is any one there?" the voice called out again.

Casting over the drape revealed the image of a five year old girl, her wondering eyes finding their way to The Doctor as he stood in front of the mirror. "Hello" The Doctor mumbled, "Hello sir. I knew someone was there..i heard voices...but..why are you inside of the mirror?" the little girl replied. "Sam!" A male voice suddenly called out, catching the girls attention as she peered over her shoulder, "What did i tell you about speaking to inanimate objects while guests are here" the voice hissed. An arm rushed down and grabbed the girl by her wrist and whisked her away before she could say another word. Once the girl was gone from sight, the mirror began to fog to a misty grey as if a sudden cold had covered the glass with ice. The fog like state continued until nothing could be seen on the mirror; The Doctor arched his eyebrow, "Fascinating...".

"So... We're inside a mirror, or are they?" Sonya mused from the doorway, blue eyes wandering around the room before landing back on the Doctor with an eyebrow raised up idly. "And to be honest, I remember an encounter with a mirror before, ended up with my arm stuck in it up to my elbow. Not the best way to catch a guy's eye, either, I might add." Chuckling slightly at the memory, she shook her head and stepped closer, curiosity getting to the Time Lady as she leaned closer to the glassy surface and frowned at it in thought. "Though... I can't say I'm surprised. I've always run into things I hate."

Glancing over her shoulder, Sonya flashed a grin at him and straightened back up. "Any plans for this one, oh mighty Doctor without a TARDIS?" Idly, she fiddled with her wrist, twisting the vortex manipulator around with a slight frown of thought, her eyes turning inward while she debated with herself. "Now that I think of it, I could barely land here myself... I kept phasing in and out before finally breaking through."

(short and took forever to reply, I know. But my tablet for one stopped staying connected to the internet and my computer started working but the g h and ' keys arent workin. I have to use the onscreen keyboard in order to type properly -_-)

The Doctor rubbed the back of his head with his hand, pacing back past Sonya then around her as he thought about the possible reasons behind the mirror. His mind brought new ideas forward but kept drawing blanks when it came to being reasonable. That was until Sonya spoke about her troubles landing as his TARDIS had. "Vortex manipulators and TARDIS landing circuits operate pretty much the same. Locking onto a gravitational pull through coordinates and known planetary sources. But! For the TARDIS to sync out and not land..that takes either a time fissure or a phase mis-direction" The Doctor reasoned, dashing around the room like the mad man he was as he thought aloud, "Those are common in misplaced dimensions or time jumps.....either we're in a seperate time than the girls...or we're in a pocket dimension standing side by side to the real one...just in an instant in time allowing us passage into it...and the imagination of a child making a bridge over to us".

Running over to the mirror, The Doctor placed his ear up to it and listened closely before backing up, "The link isn't there anymore" he concluded, "It must be just the girl. Lack of imagination in adult humans has always impressed me". Looking back to Sonya, The Doctor released a light chuckle, "Should have known you'd come around..seems to be a general occurrence in times like these. Good to see you again".

Sonya felt a wide grin form on her face as he spoke, Rassilon she had missed this. Watching him run through every possibility for something to happen while dashing about like a mental paitent. "Same sentiment here, Doctor Man." She chuckled lightly, stepping back up to the mirror to study it again with renewed interest. "So, pocket dimension with a little girl as the key linking us to theirs. Alright, makes enough sense, but in order for her to reach out like that... She'd have to have some serious psychic abilities..." Trailing off, she thought silently to herself before glancing over at the Doctor, her eyes narrowed slightly at the turn her thoughts were taking. "Doctor, these people here aren't known for latent psychic abilities. In fact, Earth has a higher concentration than they do. How could one little girl have all of that packed in her head without realizing it?"

Striding away from the mirror and heading out of the room, Sonya paused in the doorway with a wry smile on her face. "And if that's the case, then that means nearly anything with a reflective quality to it near her would react the same way that mirror just did, wouldn't it? If this is her parent's house in their universe, then she's still somewhere around here." With that said, she strode out into the hallway, pausing periodically near pictures and windows to wipe the surface off and check the reflection idly before moving on to the next thing. "Come on then, Time Lord! We have some investigating to do!"

The Doctor cocked his head to the left as he thought out loud, "Well...." he started, "The connection could be anything...to us it's science....to a child it's a dream...imagination. The parents wouldn't think anything of it, just a kid having an imaginary friend or playing a game...little do they know, it's reality for us". Looking around as Sonya dashed about the room, The Doctor continued to ponder; thinking deeply on the task at hand and the things around him.

Running out to the center of the house, The Doctor looked up the stairs and bolted up them, "If we're lucky there might be a physical link to the girl! Something she has touched..or keeps with her at all times...something where she stores her dreams!" he called back to Sonya. Stores her dreams... The Doctor paused, working over the line a couple more times before a light bulb finally sparked in his mind. Reaching the top of the stairs, The Doctor looked over the series of doors lining the hallway, at first trying to guess which door then giving up and kicking open each one.

Just when he was about to run out of doors, the second to last room opened up to reveal a fading pink hued room. Just like the rest of the house, the room was covered in dust and a grey-ish glow, the very feeling of the past nearly overwhelming as he slowly entered and glanced around. On the walls hung pictures, crayon drawn portraits of The Doctor, the mirror and even Sonya circled the remaining pink paint on the wall. In the center of the room lay a dust covered child sized bed, to its left a small coffee table holding a lone small booklet with the image of a pony on the top. "Sonya!!!" The Doctor called back down to Sonya, "I think i found our key".

Poking her head around the edge of the doorway, Sonya raised an eyebrow in the direction of the Time Lord with interest before spotting what exactly it was he was excited about. "Don't tell me you're going to go through a little girl's diary. When I was a kid, I threatened to paint my father's face fifteen shades of blue while he slept if he so much as looked at my journal cover." Shaking her head, she strolled into the room, her eyes wandering around until they landed on his lean frame with a slight frown on her face. "I'm still getting this weird vibe from everything around us you know. It's like... I can't really explain it to be honest, I know we already discussed what all of this is, but there's just a weird, I dunno taste almost."

Trailing off, her gaze drifted down to the little book and traced a finger over the cover idly, her eyebrows drawn together in thought while she studied it curiously. "There's no way a child can make this on their own. Something else is in play here, almost like that... That ship you were on with Rose and Mickey a while ago, remember? All those mirrors and pictures, the fireplace and everything connected to Marie Antoinet. And here we are in a house and only a little girl can see us through mirrors. We're the monsters in her closet so to speak."

Chewing on the inside of her cheek, Sonya looked up at the Doctor, her blue eyes not really focusing on him while she went over what she was trying to say. "And if it's true that this little girl did this, then who or what is she? If she didn't, then who's helping her, I guess you could say I'm asking."

The Doctor arched his eyebrow, glancing over the images drawn on the pages of the book; flipping through them, The Doctor stopped at one single image. Looking over to Sonya, The Doctor shook his head, "Children don't do this...they don't have nearly enough power..but what they do have..is the imagination". He stopped as he held up the book so that Sonya could see the page where he had stopped.

On the page lay a crayon drawn image of a devil like man towering over the stick figure-like outline of the girl. Horns curled at the top of the figures head and a red splash of color across the outline called back to The Doctor's memory of the beast he faced all those years ago. A memory that boiled anger inside of him as he tossed the booklet down onto the table next to him, "It's using her...using her very soul to get at me. To isolate the few people that could stop whatever it's doing. We need to get back to that universe and quick..or else i'm afraid that girl won't be drawing anything else anymore".

Rushing to a nearby bathroom across the hall, The Doctor peered into the mirror that hovered over the sink. For a moment he waited before taping it with his index finger, "Hello?" he spoke to the mirror, "Are you there? Come on, we need your help....i can make the man go away. The man with the horns..".

Sonya frowned at the image, pushing back the small prickle of cold that tried to run it's way up her back from the simple drawing before turning to follow the Doctor into the other room, leaning her shoulder against the frame with her eyebrows drawn together in thought. "If she can hear us through reflective surfaces, it's a safe bet, she can hear us anywhere in the house. I doubt she'll hear us in one room." She said idly, blue eyes glancing over at the mirror then moving back to his face, still glazed over in thought while she spoke.

"There's a party going on, safe bet they'll be in one of the main rooms of the house. Living room, Dining room or the kitchen." She added, holding up her hand and ticking off each room on a finger as she pushed herself away from the wall, trying to push aside the cloud of apathy that had settled over her quite suddenly. In all honesty, she didn't feel right where they were, it felt like the very air around them was sucking the energy out of her with each passing moment. And counting on her past luck, it probably was.

"I'd suggest looking downstairs in one of those rooms. Mirrors seem to be pretty popular in this house." Sonya added over her shoulder before heading back into the living room, her gaze wandering about until it landed on a small mirror set up behind a dusty couch and moving over to it so she could wipe the dust off of the surface and peer into it like she would through a window. "Hellooooo, imaginary friend here looking for help. Anyone home?" She called playfully, forcing a wry smile on her face as she straightened up, her ears practically twitching at the faint sounds of people coming from the surface in front of her. 'Mirror mirror on the wall, who's the fairest of them all?' Sometimes she wondered her own sanity ever since coming back in this fashion.

The mirror in front of Sonya began to fade to a grey hue as if smoke had been blown onto it from the other side. Like smoke it swirled in a circle before brushing away, giving sight to the little girl, her eyes dancing across the image of Sonya in front of her. "Your her" The girl suddenly said, "Your the girl he speaks about. The man with the horns. The girl who dies in battle..i drew pictures of you..but i always imaged you with blonde hair..and a flower. But i can never remember what the name of the flower was". The girl stopped as her eyes jolted up behind Sonya as The Doctor approached, accessing the origin of the girls voice from upstairs and tracking it to the mirror Sonya had found.

"It's not her" The Doctor told the little girl, "The woman you speak about, this isn't her. She's long sense gone" he explained, "We're here to help you. To get rid of the man with the horns. Just let us help you...tell us where he is". "I've been here all along...Doctor" Hissed a voice from the top corner of the mirror; a red glaze covered the mirror, the very temperature of the device increasing as the hue glaze became more prominent and full. The little girl ran, her frightened eyes marking the arrival of the beast as its face engulfed majority of the mirror. It's deep black cold eyes burning a menacing glare as its wicked lips curled into a smile. "I had to work long and hard to come where i am today Doctor. Thanks to you and that damned blonde....but she got her due. Quite proud of my work to be honest" The horned man hissed, "And quite pleased i am able to trick you once more. What a pleasure. You preach about saving this girl...this town...but was happened as already happened. This...is the present. The time now....and you are speaking with the ghosts of the past. Ghosts hovering through the past...their souls mine. You cannot change what is already done Doctor. Time Lord..it's time you obey time".

Without another word, the horned man disappeared and gave the mirror back its previous appearance, that of death and dullness. A sigh escaped The Doctor as he rubbed the back of his head, "Alright then" he huffed, "Like usual let's go be mad Sonya." he continued, turning and beginning to walk away before stopping suddenly and turning back to Sonya. Squinting his eyes, The Doctor licked his finger tips and fixed Sonya's hair, standing it back up in the foe hawk she had it in, "Happy birthday by the way. You look almost four hundred now" he grinned before turning back to his previous course.

Blinking her eyes at the sudden unacustomed action from her longtime friend, Sonya frowned and looked up at his face curiously. "Doctor..." She called when he turned to walk away, her teeth worrying at her lower lip for a moment then letting it go so she could speak again. "And by the way, I don't look a day over three hundred, you on the other hand with the wrinkles in your forehead don't age as gracefully." She fell into step beside him, a playful smile hovering around her lips before it faded away once more.

"What's bothering you so much? I thought I felt something was wrong, but I brushed it off because of what happened here. But there's more to it than that isn't it? What happened while I was gone?" Reaching out, she gripped his arm tight enough to stop him and pulled the Doctor around to face her so she could read his expression, worry sparking in her blue eyes. "What the hell happened to you that's gotten you so... I dunno... Depressed almost. I mean, usually you are depressing with the doom and gloom, but this is just... Wrong. It's wrong on you, Doctor and I want to know what you're thinking."

Pausing once again, Sonya tipped her head back so she could stare up at him properly with a slight grimace of irritation. "And honestly, could it kill you to shrink down a couple of inches? I mean seriously, I have to practically break my neck just so I can look at your face anymore. Hardly fair I might add." She teased lightly, trying to get him to crack a smile, chuckle anything other than the cloud of emotion she felt spilling from him at the moment. "Come on, Doctor. I thought I was your friend, can't tell me what's bothering you anymore?"

(BTW, I'm so sorry it's taking so long for replies I really don't mean to but life's been If this is my last chance to say it... Rose Tyler- hectic the past couple of months. Long story short, I just don't have as much time to write right now and trust me, it's really Watch it Spaceboy, Watch it Earthgirl! Oh... I sound like you! me off that I can't. I just now caught up on all of the episodes since the Mummy on the Orient Express. Pleaaaaaaaaaaaaaase forgive me! I'm begging you, don't hate me. I'll try to be on more now, I'll even do something embarassing if it'll help lol.)
