Winter Bluff's

Jennifer sighed as neared the graveyard she needed to say goodbye one more time. After her mirror had smashed, she knew that rather than letting go of her husband's death, it just renewed her grief like shattering that precious memory. A tear ran down her wrinkled cheek as Jennifer approached Stanley's gravestone it's cold blankness proclaimed "loving father and husband 1960-1988."
"goodbye" Jennifer whispered laying a bouquet of flowers down, out of the corner of her eye she saw a flicker of a wing. Then she knew no more.

-Swiss alps 1988-
Jennifer awoke in the bitter cold the wind howling as it blew snow around. She gasped she knew this place this time she would never forget it. She was in the Swiss Alps where her husband died. It was the one thing she regretted not saying goodbye to him. Brushing her tears aside she struggled through the snow towards the town nearby suddenly determined she would say her goodbye or die trying.

-Zermatt, Switzerland, 1988-

Outside the window of the Whymper-Stube, winds howled and tore at the small town of Zermatt. But inside the restaurant, no one payed that depressing weather any mind. Glasses clinked, people laughed, food in the kitchen sizzled, and German and Portuguese and even a little bit of Romanish were thrown around the warmy lit room.

"So, what brings you to the Swiss Alps, then? Skiing, the Matterhorn...maybe the lovely weather?"

Everyone at the table laughed uproariously, pausing in their merriment only to dip bread and pears and other food items into the pot of steaming cheese fondue at the center of the table. Theta Sigma had arrived at the little restaurant alone, but it hadn't taken long for a band of swiss natives and tourists alike to fill the table. He was certainly glad of this; each and every one of the men that had sat here were great conversationalists, and all had stories to tell, whether it be stories of home, how they came to be here, or short humorous jokes.

"I came here for the skiing" Theta answered, his words being translated by the TARDIS into the German many here spoke. Most of the men at the table nodded; people that weren't from Zermatt usually come for the mountain's great slopes. It was just what this place was known for, aside from the fierceness of its winters.

"Good luck with that, with the way the weather's been" grunted one of the men, a Dane that had also come to the alps to ski. He took a great big bite of his roll, as if he were furious at it "I've been here for three days, the snow hasn't let up one bit" he jabbed a thumb in another man's direction "I've had to move out of the hotel and stay with Franz here; otherwise I wouldn't have any money to return home with!"

"Waaaahh" The doctor screamed as his Tardis slid down the mountain. He'd tried to land it closer to town, but ended up with an unstable patch of icy terrain. The Tardis slid down the mountain, throwing the doctor against an upturned wall of his ship. He struggled to reach the controls as it sped downwards. Anyone outside would be very, very surprised to see a blue police box being used as a makeshift sled. The doctor finally reached the console and managed to stop its descent.

Night jumped on the police box, and screamed as it sled down. "HOLY CRAP!" She stopped. and fell in the snow. She smirked at the look of the Police Box. "Doctor." She twirled her her finger in her hair, as she buried herself deeper in the snow, so no one could see her. She shivered; and sneezed. This was going to be fun. She knew it was. Instead of simply waiting for the Doctor to come out, she started to slash the Tardis with her scythe, over and over again.

She rubbed her eye patch,  and winced. It still hurt. She could see the sky cars, as she slammed her scythe into the Tardis. Why was she doing this? Well- that's something for me to know, and for the Doctor to find out. The heat from her scythe melted the snow around her. First- she had to get the Doctor out.

Jennifer shivered as she entered the town blinking as she saw a bright blue box slide down the hill along with Night. She gritted her teeth not only was she lost in the absolutely worst day of her life but her rival was here too. Looking around she spotted a restaurant to hide in. First priority was to plan her rescue. All Jennifer knew was that her husband had "disappeared" from the Swiss alps while on a rescue mission she needed more information.
Behind her a statue covered in snow stared blankly in the center of town.

Fortunately for the doctor, Night's unprovoked assault on the Tardis with her scythe activated the Tardis defense systems and caused it to rematerialize just outside of a restaurant. Though it was less of a rematerialization and more of a crash. The doctor immediately exited, wearing the extra layer that was his thick fur coat. It almost made him look like a yeti. He entered the restaurant, setting his coat up on a nearby rack. As he entered, he failed to notice either Theta or Jennifer. Though he had seen the "statue" just outside. And he was prepared for it. The doctor had in his pocket a special item that might ward them off. He had in one hand a long silver skewer, upon which was an assortment of strawberries, banana, and mango. He dipped it into the fondue and brought the cheese covered assortment back out, eating them one by one.

(sorry about the post rant theta you have a week after 625 and night post again this is in serious danger of dying Night please post while we wait.)

The feeling of cold air whipping into the room alerted Theta to the fact that someone had entered the restaurant. Out of curiosity, Theta turned in his seat to get a glimpse of who ever would be stupid enough to be walking around in this weather. He certainly wasn't expecting a familiar face; he'd seen this woman, numerous times in the 21st century, and although he'd only conversed with her twice he knew for sure that Jennifer was not in possession of a vortex manipulator or time travelling device of any sort.

So... how did she get here?

The probable answer to that question walked through the door a moment later, wearing a giant fur coat that dwarfed the short man. Theta took a moment to exchange goodbyes with the men he'd met, then made his way to the area where the Doctor and Jennifer were, squeezing between the chairs and tables of other patrons in order to do so. He gave a small wave to both to gain their attention.

"So, will you two be travelling together now? I have to say, a frozen over town in the Himalayas is a shoddy first stop..." he pulled out a chair and sat on it backwards, draping his arms over it's back "unless you came here for the food, of course. The cheese fondue is excellent, don't you think?

"well actually I'm not sure how I got here.." Jennifer winced thinking of the graveyard. "It might be a crazy coincidence but I was in a graveyard saying a goodbye. and then poof I'm here at that exact date." she exclaimed.
"here look" Jennifer found her photograph from the funeral her standing in front of the grave only now the year of death had faded away "what is this like, Back to the Future!...
Jennifer stopped in thought and grabbed her golden medal glanced at it and then silently slipped it around her neck. "I don't like cheese fondue." Jennifer replied her voice tight with emotion she had to get up the ski slope. Glancing out the window the statue in the center of town was in a different position. (see adios until summer-night is going to be absent for awhile.)

Night cracked her neck. Tired. Wrecked. And Really angry. Three things not able to be mixed together without someone getting hurt. Looking above, she saw a helicopter fly overhead. The Doctor could wait. This- on the other hand. Night began to run after to the helicopter. "I. hate COLD!" She screamed as she ran into walls of snow. Her hair as getting soaked, and her arms were freezing over. She didn't stop running. She would always be running. Nothing could stop her.

If they wanted to.

They'll have to kill her first.

The doctor wasn't expecting company. When you had all of time and space at your disposal and could go anywhere you wanted, it often came as a surprise when he ran into former companions or fellow travellers. The universe was a big place. He slipped the cheese drenched bit of banana into his mouth and bit it off the skewer. The two flavors made for an odd combination, at least for a human.
His eyes fell on the man in the bowtie. No one else had similar apparel, so naturally his attention was focused oh Theta. He remembered meeting this time lord in New York sometime in the twenty first century. There'd been something familiar about his presence, but the doctor couldn't pin it down.
"Who me, travelling with who?" He hadn't noticed Jenny, so he was confused by the question. "The Himalayas? I thought this was the Alps. Well, all Earth's mountains look the same to me." He'd finished all the fruit on his skewer, and was examining it disappointedly. "Yes excellent stuff." But what else could he dip into the cheesy goodness? That was it.
Before rushing off to a nearby table, he happened to notice Jenny. "Oh! fancy seeing you here!" As he moved over to get another item to dip into the fondue, he wondered how she had gotten here. And he knew the answer. It was right outside.
He returned with the item in question, tearing chunks off and placing them on the skewer. "An angel swept you away..." He dipped the skewer into the fondue. "Well not so much an angel as a statue of an angel. Though why would they move you through space as well...? Most angels only touch you and displace you in time. This one decided to utilize the whole fourth dimension package. He leaned in to see the photograph. "What is this Back To The Future?" He continued to look at the photo. It really was pretty interesting how the year of death had faded away. Something was definitely going to happen today.

Theta watched amusedly as Jennifer and the Doctor only just noticed each other. It seems that they hadn't come together, then; pity, since Jennifer seemed the type of person that might enjoy travelling.

He glanced down at the photo that she was showing him, smile dropping at the sight of a gravestone. He was drawn into a painful memory of two years past; a flash of red hair, the cold metal floors of a spaceship seeping into his knees as as he cradled a body in his arms, limp and painted a dark red...

He forcibly pushed the memory to the back of his mind, giving a strained and apologetic smile to Jennifer for spacing out. He focused back on the old photo, namely the most important thing about it; the lack of death date on the gravestone. It must be a flexible point in time, he mused, though before he could even open his mouth to explain so to Jennifer, the Doctor was butting in about angels and statues of some sort. He looked at the man with furrowed eyebrows.

"Statue of an angel? One that can displace you in space and time?" he whistled lowly, impressed "Never heard of them, though that sounds like it could be a nuisance. Good thing statues are just about as fast as trees.... actually, I take that back, some tree people can be fairly quick. Once went to an Olympics where some of them were contestants" he failed to mention that he'd gone to that particular Olympics with Robin. Rassilon, it had been two years, he ought to be over this by now.

Shaking her head Jennifer would have laughed at the Doctor's oblivious nature but she could only think of one thing. "Doctor, Theta I have a serious question, is it possible that I can save someone now that I'm here in the past?" Jennifer held her breath a moment thinking of the possibilities.
"The Olympics? Been there done that." Jennifer said not really paying attention. She had been staring at the statue unconsciously blinking and now it was gone.
"I think our angel is faster than a tree look." she said pointing out the window. A man covered in winter gear came inside the store hurriedly out of breath.
"I have had the most crazy day!" he exclaimed to Jennifer's surprise the voice was Stanley's her husband.

Whatever this point in time was, it wasn't fixed. Time was almost like a river, make a foot print in the sand at the edge of the river and the water would still flow undisturbed. But remove a strategically placed dam and the lake downwind would flood. Time was like that, mess with something important and everything went out of wack.
It was the only point where he agreed with the other time lords. Pfft, they were like his parents always telling him what he could do and couldn't do. Which would make him the petulant child who decided to borrow their car for a joyride and never brought it back.
"Well you could, unless their death affected important events in the future. Then my people would get involved.
Theta then brought up the speed of trees compared to angels. "Actually I'd say they're much faster, as long as you're not looking at them." He slipped the cheese covered delicacy into his mouth. "Oh was it the Olympics where one of the tree folk was a torch bearer who had an unfortunate mishap?"
Then getting back onto the topic of the angel, the doctor moved to the window. "Speak of the devil...sorry, angel. He pulled back the blinds to reveal the angel, hands raised, teeth bared, looking inside. "Hello..." He waved to it, then turned around with an amused smile on his face, and jerked his thumb back at it. "right on time."
The doctor suddenly felt a cold chill as the restaurant door opened and a man stepped in. He didn't know him personally, but Jennifer's reaction was like a thousand words.

As Stanley walked in he stared at the strange men one with a yeti like coat and another with a bowtie. With all the weird things happening he hardly noticed the woman with curly grey hair but a sense of deju vu struck him.
"Those statues have been chasing me you better run out the back." he told everyone concerned about their safety. It was then he noticed the gold medal around the woman's neck it seemed eerily similar to the one he had under his coat. As he was thinking something banged against the front door.
"Let's Go." Stanley said hurriedly.

(if no one posts by the end of May this is obviously dead and I'll close the story as incomplete sorry for being pushy it has been more then a month already.)

Poking her head out of a closet full of damp clothes and grimaced slightly before tripping over a spare set of shoes and tumbled out onto the floor with a groan. "Well... That sucked." Sitting up, she rubbed at her head gently with another groan before chancing a look around, spotting several people standing around accompanied by a banging noise at the door. "Um... Sounds like you have company." She said helpfully, a small grin appearing on her face as the Time Lady got to her feet and brushed herself off.

"Unless it's a..." Shooting a glance outside, she took in the sight before sighing and turning back to the others. "Yeti. I'd say let them in, but a look on your face says otherwise."

"Right like I said out the back to the ski lift for higher ground." Stanley explained refusing to be distracted by a new person.
"Stanley." he heard the older woman whisper as she approached her golden metal glowed slightly it was now was the exact same medal he had tucked under his coat
"I have an idea once we go to the top of the mountain," Jennifer said to everyone, "We can create an avalanche to bury the angels." Jennifer struggled to remember where she had seen the woman before, but was too determined to leave to ask out right.

The doctor had heard the commotion coming from the closet, but kept his attention focused on Stanley. This was bad. This was very bad indeed. It was one thing to watch time unfold from afar, quite another to see it live. He sorely hoped Jennifer wouldn't try anything foolish. Hopefully she'd leave things alone, recognize it only as a moment to say goodbye. Stanley suggested higher ground, and his wife suggested an avalanche, though attention was what angels most feared. He decided he'd follow them anyways, to try and help them escape. Though he doubted Stanley would survive the night.

The bothersome time lady suddenly remarked "Yeti" and the doctor instinctively turned. "Where?"

"It was mostly a suggestion." Sonya said cheerfully, casting a smile around while folding her hands behind her back and rocking back and forth on her feet. "However... It seems angels are afoot." She added with a nod at the two people talking about an avalance. "Though I hate to tell you, an avalanche wouldn't work, it'd bury them sure, but that would mean they can't be seen under the snow, they're pretty smart. Dig their way out or even stay under so they can move freely until the last second then grab someone."

Turning away, she wandered to the door and put her ear to it curiously, listening to the wind outside for a moment. "An angel cannot be defeated, however I am curious as to why there are so many around..." Sonya raised an eyebrow and pulled her sonic from it's bag and scanned the area outside the door, her eyes popping wide at the reading she got. "Did you steal something of theirs perhaps?"

"Me?" Stanley asked "All I have is my Olympic gold medal which seems to be the same as hers." he replied nodding at Jennifer.
Jennifer stepped closer as they examined gold medal she realized what was happening.
"The angels sent me here because if you are not sent back we would have never met Stanley. I remember it well you appeared in front of me as I was practicing. You gave me that exact same medal when you disappeared it was all that was found." Jennifer said this bitterly ashamed now of how she was acting.
All at once Stanley recognized Jennifer as his wife, kissing her passionately as a goodbye and stepping towards the door.
"After this is over I want to leave Earth and travel, can I have a ride back to my own time?" Jennifer turned her back she could not bear to watch as the door slammed shut.

"pfft. suggestion" the doctor muttered to himself. Sonya was right, an avalanche wasn't a good idea for getting rid of the angels. In fact, almost everything except constant attention was useless for keeping them at bay. "What could he possibly have that they want?" He asked "is his time more precious than anybody else's?"

Even the Olympic medalist was confused as to the reason. Though it seemed his wife had the explanation. And at last he recognized who she was. The doctor watched as Stanley left, and waited for the door to close behind him.

"I have extra room on the Tardis..." he replied to her question. It was the least he could do for her, as she had to lose her husband a second time. "That is if you don't mind several stops along the way, random unscheduled stops." He was about to leave when he remembered something else. "And cybermen, I'm always running into those..."
