PostSubject: Re: The Awakening   The Awakening - Page 2 I_icon_minitimeFri Feb 15, 2019 12:09 pm

Charity stayed still, looking around her. She had been strapped to a chair to keep her from trying anything, and she hoped that they were not thinking of using her as a test subject for anything. She was watching the screens, with a bit of a sick feeling. There were multiple planets being kept track of, and she wasn't sure exactly why but there seemed to be a specific purpose. There were files on tests but she couldn't gather much information about why. No one would tell her anything.

She was only glad she had managed to hide that folder and that no one had noticed anything, nor had they thought to search her. She figured that they probably thought her blaster was the only weapon she would carry, which showed how little they knew of the tomboy girl who'd grown up on a farm. She never left her house without at least a pocket knife.

When the door opened and the Doctor was marched in, also obviously apprehended, Charity was torn between being relieved to see him and disappointed to see that he had been captured like her. But perhaps he had a plan. He always had a plan, right? She hoped so. Grinning back at him as he noticed her, she tried to make light of it, "Nice to see you're alright." She greeted him. "I've been busy interrogating them." She added more as a joke than anything.

"Hush," Dr. Renee snapped. "You're in no position to be interrogating anyone." She gave Charity a dark look and then ordered the guards to deal with the Doctor, before going to check on the monitors. "The last ones we sent still haven't had any success. Maybe these two will do a better job, is the Viper here yet?" She asked someone working at one of the computers.
The guy shook his head, pointing to one of the blips on his screen. "Still a ways out, but they're heading our way." He answered.

"The Viper," Charity commented. "That's the ship that takes patients away from here."
"Who told you that?" Renee turned and frowned at her.
"An anonymous source." Charity returned, narrowing her eyes. She was not going to reveal that the janitor had told her things he shouldn't have. It might get him killed. "It doesn't matter how I know, though. Does this mean you plan to ship us off somewhere to get rid of us?" She wondered if she was going to send them to wherever she had sent Brooke, and what they would do if that happened... the Tardis was parked here, so how would they get back?

Renee frowned, then addressed them both. "You should have minded your own business, but since you're so set on poking your noses into this, then maybe you can be of some use." She glared at the Doctor and Charity. "I am not a villain, you know. I am doing all of this to save people, and here you two come along, trying to mess everything up! I won't have it! You two will be on the next ship out of here. Then we'll see if you have any better success than those who have gone before you." She turned in a huff and stormed toward the door. "Make sure they board that ship when it arrives." She ordered a guard posted at the door.

"So then the tests on the children haven't been going well Dr. Renee?" The Doctor called out to her, trying to pull her back from leaving the room, "Odd sense of saving people, testing children on deserted planets, kidnapping them from their families. What is this, the Hunger Games?". Dr. Renee thrust back towards The Doctor, "No! This, this is progress! Do you think this great empire will ever expand without research? The good captain and i have ensured that this empire grows and extends out to more planets Doctor. Where you..you and your friend here would rather see it strangled to death" Renee hissed.

Dr. Renee turned her attention to Charity, her eyes running up and down her before speaking, "And you..i'm guessing some short of grunt for the militia? Shame really, i could have used you. But you let this idiot twist your mind into working against the very people you swore to protect and serve". Dr. Renee glanced over to one of her guards and nodded; the guard immediately stepped forward and pointed his blaster at Charity. "Stop! What are you doing?!" The Doctor exclaimed, Dr. Renee smirked, "Do you think we are stupid Doctor? The recorder you have...give it here...or she dies". Looking to Charity, The Doctor reached into his pocket and tossed her the recorder, much to Renee's delight. The guard retracted his blaster and stepped back as Renee tossed down the recorder, crushing it beneath her heel; "What a waste".

The sound of the crunching recorder blasted to Jake's ear, causing him to instinctively toss off his headphones, "Agh!" he proclaimed. After a moment, to let the ringing in his ear go away, Jake reviewed the audio he had received. Reaching over to the counter, beside him, Jake grabbed his comm device then held it up to his ear, "Jake Groth, clearance level alpha two..patch me through to the major, we're going to need an extraction".

Charity watched Renee without a word. She hoped that they didn't decide to search her, but it seemed they were more interested in threatening to kill her. This angered her but she was careful not to let it show. It didn't matter though if the Doctor gave over his recorder. Charity was very careful to keep her expression neutral, but she knew that Jake was hearing everything they heard, and if he was doing as she expected he was, then it was being recorded on his end as well.

It passed through her mind, wondering what Dr Renee thought she was doing to help people. Whatever it was, it seemed to involve expanding the Empire. She wondered, was the emperor aware of this plan? She had a feeling that he was not. What would he say about this? She couldn't imagine him being very pleased. "It is not your job to help the empire grow, Dr Renee." Charity informed her in a calm tone, her eyes narrowed. "It is your job to heal those who are injured or sick, and ensure that they receive proper care. NOT to send them off somewhere." She had difficulty in keeping her voice calm because this matter angered her.

"We have only done what we had to do. You would not understand, though... maybe you will once you've joined them." Renee smirked at her. "You have no idea the challenges we have faced here. Our people can only do so much..." She was about to say more when some noises distracted her. She paused, listening, and frowned. "What is that?" She demanded of her guards. "Go find out."

The men shrugged. One went to go and check what was going on. In moments he returned running. "Imperial troops!" He gasped, out of breath. "They're coming... going to arrest--"

Before he could finish speaking the troops, sent by Jake, burst in, blasters pointed at Dr Renee and her guards. Charity grinned in relief, recognizing a few of the guys from training, but hadn't seen them since they each got assigned to different posts after training. One went to untie her while another untied the Doctor. "Can't you ever stay out of trouble, Elmstone?" he grinned.

She grinned back as she rubbed her arms. "Nah... what would be the fun in that?" She smiled. "Nice to see you again, glad you seem to be doing good, Johnson." She turned to watch Dr Renee being arrested. She protested that her work was too important and that they would regret this, and even tried saying they couldn't prove anything.

"Actually," Charity spoke up at that point. "I have some documents, taken from a secret drawer in her office, which proves everything, and my tech operative colleague back at the base should have a recording of everything she said." She told the captain.

"Good work, officer Elmstone." The captain looked impressed, which made her feel both shy and pleased.

"Thanks, Captain." She felt her ears going pink as she thought of a problem. How was she going to get the documents to them without pulling the folder from under her shirt in front of all these guys?

The Awakening - Page 2 Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Awakening   The Awakening - Page 2 I_icon_minitimeTue Feb 19, 2019 9:51 pm

The Doctor watched as Dr. Renee was escorted off by armed personnel, "You don't know what you've done. The research we've built here could change lives for the better in the Empire! Saved lives!" she hissed as she passed him. Her voice could be heard echoing through the halls, before the command center doors closed behind her, "Murderers! You idiots!!" she yelled as she was dragged away. The Doctor paused for a moment, taking in the information he had gathered about the center, his eyes glancing over at Charity, who was speaking with the captain, before landing on the computers below.

Using the time, while most were busy cleaning up, The Doctor traveled down the stairs and shot over to the monitors beneath the overhead screens. Using his sonic screwdriver, he quickly passed through the files and data, "They're..." he mumbled as he realized what the red dots were above him; his eyes trailed up to the screens, "They're all life signs...tracking signatures for each planet..". Horror overcame him at the thought of Brooke being shipped off to one of these test planets, his typing and scanning becoming more frantic until he finally landed on what he was looking for. Death files. Each file contained pictures and descriptions of each death, conveniently labeled as failures, along with adjustments that were made on the next batch of subjects. The stack of digital files tallied up to over two hundred...

Adjusting the search down to time of departure, The Doctor was able to locate the latest group sent out, along with a scrapbook of their pictures, "There you are Brooke.." he smiled. Luckily her picture had not been x'd out in red, the word failure splattered across pictures of those who died in each batch. Inside The Doctor grew furious, his rage building as his mind couldn't shake the death toll. Quickly he downloaded the coordinates to the planet Brooke was shipped to, before displaying all the information up on the screens, for all the militia to observe.

Marching back up the stairs, his sonic screwdriver still in hand, The Doctor approached the captain, interrupting his conversation with Charity. "You need to get your men to those planets now!" He spat, his eyebrows arched down in fury, "This place sat under your nose for so long, hundreds of children died Captain. So help me, if one single child does not make it back to that spaceport...". The Doctor stopped mid sentence, his eyes glancing over to Charity, deep down he know if he said anymore he could be arrested but his fury was driving his every word. Without another word, The Doctor roared off, bursting through the command center doors as his eyes and intent fixated on nothing but getting to Brooke. His anger would not break until he saw her again, the inner anger pointed more at himself for not protecting her, I'm supposed to keep them safe....

After stepping away to 'retrieve the folder' for the captain - which involved Charity stepping out of the room, pulling the folder from under her blouse and fixing her clothes again before returning - she had turned the evidence over to him. Then the Doctor came up to the captain speaking angrily to him, and she frowned upon hearing his words. She glanced over at the screens he had come from and went over to have a closer look. She stared at the images on the computer. There were so many. And what was this technology they had, which seemed to allow them to grab people from other planets? Teleporting or something? That didn't seem good.

She remained at the computers for a moment, trying to gather more information while the Doctor was on his way out. Then she hurried to catch up to him. "I don't know what they're trying to do, but we'll find her." She told him. "And the Forces will shut down the operation now that they know about it." She added, hoping the captain wasn't too mad about what the Doctor said. "They just didn't know." She said quietly. She thought about their friend, Brooke, and wondered if she was getting by well enough. Was she in danger? "Brooke is smart... and resourceful." She mentioned, more to convince herself she would be alright. "She'll be alright... won't she?" She looked at the Doctor, worry filling her gray eyes. "She's done well enough this long...we'll find her soon." Everything would be ok.

As soon as they got into the Tardis, there would be an alert for the Doctor, showing that the ship had picked up some sort of frequency. It would be faint, but when tuning into it, the message would be a bit chilling; screams and cries for help filled the airwaves from a multitude of voices, though none they would recognize. The frequency would be emitted from the same planet he had just gotten coordinates of.

The Awakening - Page 2 Empty
PostSubject: Re: The Awakening   The Awakening - Page 2 I_icon_minitimeSat Mar 23, 2019 5:11 am

The Doctor arched his eyebrow as he hastily sauntered down the hallway, in route back to his TARDIS, "For this great empire, they'd better hope she is okay. Her and all of those children" he hissed. Aggravation, frustration and worry filled The Doctors every emotion, and body, as he longed to get back to his TARDIS. How could he take so long to find her? What if he was too late? Would he really do something if they found her dead? Truth was, he didn't know the answer to any of those questions. The Doctor becomes nearly a different man when his rage takes control of him; it causes him to do things he wouldn't normally do, some that he regrets, others he doesn't.

The final doors screeched open to make way for The Doctor and Charity; as soon he exited the building, his ears perked. "Hold on, you hear that?" The Doctor asked in a whispered tone, his hand up slightly to signal Charity behind him, "Sounds like the TARDIS..picking up something!!!". With a burst of excitement and energy, The Doctor bolted to the TARDIS and where he remembered he had left it. With so much time spent in the, amazing, time machine it aided in the psychic link between pilot and machine. This psychic link connected and buzzed through The Doctors head, the familiar sound of an incoming transmission. Could it be?

Yanking the door open, and leaving it open for Charity, The Doctor danced around the control console, pulling over the scanner. With eyes focused on the screen, and his tongue protruding from the edge of his mouth slightly, The Doctor used his left hand to guide a crystal ball, the other planted firmly on the console. "Come on, come on" The Doctor mumbled, "Where are you...Gotcha!!!" he proclaimed. The TARDIS locked onto the beacon, The Doctor looked over the time rotor down towards Charity, "Charity! Allons-y! I've got a beacon, could be her! Just might!" he exclaimed happily, running to the other side of the console to ensure the TARDIS was ready for flight.

Charity stopped along with the Doctor, looking at him questioningly. "No, I don't hear anything." She replied in a whisper as well, though she tried very hard to hear it. She hurried to catch up to him when he took off again. She pulled the doors closed behind her and hurried over to the console thing. What was he doing? She watched him and looked around then looked back at him. There were a lot of things she didn't understand about what the Doctor said or did, and this was one of them.

"I still don't hear anything." She told him, confused. What could it be? All she heard was static and white noise. She was glad that he seemed to have found something to help, but this made no sense. What was the beacon thing he was talking about? She held on tightly to a beam as the Tardis took off. Where would they be going? She hoped that wherever it was, they'd find Brooke.

At last, the landing had finished. She waited for all to be still, and then let go. "Where are we?" She still couldn't hear whatever he was hearing, only the noises of the Tardis. But she was eager to explore the new place, and look for their friend. She was feeling optimistic. They'd go out there and find Brooke, right? Throwing the doors open, she was met by a wave of heat as if she'd just opened an oven door. She was startled, and took a step back. "Oh...it's a desert, I think." She squinted against the brightness. The terrain before them looked like a rocky desert, with canyons and little greenery. "Where are we?" She murmured, more to herself than anything.

Her feet pounded on the hot ground, the end of a tattered red scarf trailing behind in her wake. The weight of her bag bounced against her side, as always. Her tennis shoes were battered by now, but still held out enough to protect her feet from the scorching ground. Her breath was coming in gasps as she was becoming exhausted, but she had to keep running. They weren't far behind, and she was too far away from the compound to get there. She didn't know what she and Spencer were going to do. He could go faster, she suspected, but was staying close to her; something she appreciated but found unnecessary. She was trying to get enough breath to call out to him to go on without her. She had a pain starting in her side and she saw no sense in Spencer getting killed for her sake. This was possibly the hardest she had run in all the time they'd been here and she was sure she couldn't keep going without a rest. But the monsters were too close behind to allow them a rest.

Just when she was sure that she was going to have to just drop to the ground and accept her fate, she heard a sound in the distance. A very familiar sound that made her heart seem to leap in excitement. At first she thought she was just hearing things. But then the sound grew louder, and despite how tired she was already, Brooke found that she had one last burst of energy at her disposal. She cast her gaze around rapidly. Where was it? She knew that sound. They were saved at last! But where was it going to appear? Then, in the distance, she spotted the blue box, slowly fading into existence. A grin spread across her face and she grabbed Spencer's arm, tugging him. "C'mon... This way!" She panted, altering her course slightly to go straight for the Tardis. Spencer looked confused but was too out of breath to ask any questions, and he stayed close to her with a quick glance behind them.

Not far behind them, three very large creatures were chasing the two young people, a threat they might not be able to outrun this time. The blue box ahead had become solid, and out of the corner of her eye, Brooke caught a glimpse of Spencer's face. He looked baffled and curious, and she understood but also knew that they had to reach safety before she could start explaining anything. Brooke wanted to call out to the Doctor but she knew they were too far away.

As she got closer, she began worrying. What if the Doctor wasn't in there? Maybe the Tardis had taken off on its own and landed there without him knowing. He might be in the library or something, or even deeper in the Tardis where he had no idea what was going on. She worried that they might get to the doors and find them locked where they couldn't get in. Desperation filled her and she felt as if she had to call out to get his help, even though it didn't make sense. "Doctor!" She gasped out as loud as she had the breath for. Maybe he'd hear her, if he was in there, though it was unlikely. She had no more breath for calling out, and had barely enough to keep running. Her inhaler had run out of stuff some time ago, and she wasn't sure how she was going to recover her breath after this, but she'd have to do the best she could. If they could just get into the Tardis, everything would be ok, she knew it.
