In the Daylight

Amy placed her elbows on the desk of the small shop. She had come back from New York and the sticky situation with Rory weeks before, but those statues were still fresh in her mind. The look on the Doctor's face when she said goodbye... "Amy?" A small voice asked and Amy lifted her head, brushing red hair out of her eyes as she raised an eyebrow. "Yeah?" She asked, her voice just as small. She cleared her throat and stood straighter. "Have you seen the news? Or even just look out the bloody window! Something's wrong with the sun!" Amy's brows furrowed and she pushed passed the woman, racing to the window. The girl was right; the sun was changed, looking the same as it had all those years ago when the Doctor returned. She nibbled on her bottom lip, stepped back and raced to the door. Her phone was already out, in her hand with a finger balanced over a single key. Speed dial, but she had told herself not to call it. Not to drag herself back into a world she departed for Rory. A world in the past of her present days. Stepping onto the sidewalk, Amy looked around, her shoulders brushed by strangers, but she wasn't focused on them. It was something more. The sun, and- Amy! Look at the people! She looked, looked into their eyes. Yellow tinted. Something with the sun.

Crossing her arms, Amy stopped at the edge of the sidewalk, letting people bump into her every so often. The phone was back in her pocket, feeling like a brick against her thigh. "I've got to do something. Come on, think." She whispered, but her feet were planted to the pavement. What was there to do? Call Rory? No, she couldn't. Call the Doctor? He wouldn't understand. She didn't understand. Being back in her proper time, in a time he could visit her in... She hardly questioned it. Blinking her eyes a few times, Amy focused on the sun until dots were floating in her vision.

Out of nowhere, a young man came, sprinting like his life depended on it and looking around at all the people with yellow-tinted eyes. Basically, everyone. His tweet jacket flailed out behind his as he ran, and his sneakers slapped against the pavement.

"Oh no no no, not good, not good..." He caught sight of Amy, who was the first human he'd seen without yellow eyes. He weaved around the zombie-like people, coming forward and grabbing the redhead by the shoulders.

"How are you not being infested?" he flipped out his sonic, and buzzed her between the eyes, taking it back and checking the readings "This makes no sense! You're an ordinary human being, nothing special about you at all! So why...?" he took her head between his hands and stared at her intensely, as if he could just get the answers by the look in her eyes "What's so special about you? Why aren't the Lec's nanoclouds having any effect on you?"

"What? No, hands off." Amy said, slapping his hands away with a scowl. "Nothing special about me? Really? That's the first thing you decide to say?" She snapped, her eyes surveying his outfit quickly. Similiar to the Doctor's, strange enough. Who would willingly dress like that? She raised her eyes back to the man's face, "look. I've got no clue who you are or whatever nano... Something clouds are, but I really need to go." She took a step away from him, then turned her back and started down the road, swerving in and out of the group as she went, praying the man wouldn't follow her. But from that scene, she was almost positive he would.

"Oi, come back!" Theta ran after Amy, mentally slapping himself for being so abrupt "look, I'm sorry, but I need to know why you haven't gone all yellow-eyed. There is a nano-cloud up in the sky, and I have an hour to find a cure and disperse it through the atmosphere. You might not even believe me, but there is an alien ship hovering over the Earth, waiting that hour before they have an entire species of slaves" he sighed, running a hand over his face in frustration "Rassilon, you probably don't even believe in aliens, what are the chances that you'll actually listen? But...but just look around you. Look at the sun! Does that seem normal to you?"

Amy crossed her arms, glancing up at the sky for hardly a second. "'Course not. And yeah, I believe you. And I've got a friend who might be willing to help." She said, her hand against the phone in her pocket. But she couldn't bring herself to pull it out, or even press the single buttom. She let her arm drop back to her side. "Or not. But can you stop rambling for one moment and tell me what aliens are up there, yeah? What aliens are planning some attack?" She asked, raising an eyebrow questionably.

Theta took a deep breath, trying to calm down. But how could he? He was on a time limit here! And this redhead wasn't exactly being helpful.

"The Lec" he looked up at the sky, and even though he couldn't see the spaceship, he knew it was there "They're a slave trade race, going around the galaxy and enslaving civilizations more primitive then them"

He looked back at Amy, eyebrow raised, catching something she said earlier.

"But you have a friend that can help?"

She nodded slowly. "Yeah, well... Yeah. I've got a friend," Amy replied, rubbing her arms slowly. "He could help, if I was willing to call him." She said softly, biting her bottom lip as her mind racked over the ideas. Calling him might get this guy off her back, that was something good. She pinched her arm to bring herself back to the present. "How much help do you need? I mean, you seem pretty well handled with this now." She judged quickly, narrowing her eyes as another man shoved against her shoulder.

"Well, that's the thing. You're a human, I can tell that. But you aren't affected, and figuring out why might just be the cure for all these people" he absentmindedly gestured a hand to all the humans with zombie-like expressions. "Now, are you different from all of them in any way? Disease you have? A non-common blood type? Any contact with the time vortex, teleportation, or strange glowing holes or cracks?"

Amy crossed her arms sternly, narrowing her eyes at the man with a disapproving frown. "Good. Okay, you've officially lost your-" She cut herself off, her arms falling to her sides as she took a quick step back. "No disease. Normal blood type." This caused her to take a step towards him, her face containing hardly any emotions whatsoever. She didn't want this conversation any longer, but she was naturally curious by now. "So, wise man, that leaves time vortex, teleportation, or strange glowing holes or cracks, yeah? Take all three. Now, you've got your answers. I need to go." She muttered, spinning away from him to start back down the street. Rory was probably waiting for her... And she definitely owed the Doctor a call now.
