New Character: The Correlation

What It Is

The Correlation is an artificial intelligence, but not one that rests within a computer, this intelligence is capable of resting within a sentient mind. This allows it to travel, but it is still restricted to those that it is within the mind of. It can't kill those it inhabits, nor can it control their mind, it can only talk and observe the thoughts of the host. It is not a parasite. It can also talk to multiple people in a room, though this is a straining activity for it.

How It Came To Be


The year is 5327 AD, a human pirate ship chases an alien science vessel through a vast nebula. The science ship is ill equipped, it's escort having left in response to a fake call for help. The pirate ship opens fire on the science vessel, the engines begin to fail. Frantically the scientists try to crash land on a nearby chunk of rock, but the pirate's lasers bite through the hull of their ship before they manage. The pirates clap each other on the back, and prepare to plunder any surviving resources from the vessel, when it's escort arrives back from the false distress beacon, weapons charged. The pirates are destroyed within a few seconds of the escort ship opening fire, but nothing can be done to save the already dead crew members of the science ship. The escort ship sends a message to it's command and jumps off to the nearest station. The science ship continues to float through the nebula for a few minutes, before crashing onto the rock the scientists had been hoping to crash land on. By the time the battered ship has stopped skidding along the surface there isn't much left. A few pieces of hull, half the control deck, an engine pipe, and a sealed vault are all that remains. Within the sealed vault is the thing the scientists had been working on, an AI that wouldn't be confined to computers. Because the only way to make an AI at that time was to make it on a computer, the AI was able to sit in the computer core they had been creating it on instead of just dissipating, as it would have done if the scientists had already released it of it's computer bonds. One other thing that lay intact was the distress beacon, which began weakly calling out for help. This is where the adventure of The Correlation begins, and it's continued story will depend upon whoever discovers this lost being.
