Role-playing with Kira

Kira is a character I recently made. I want her to start in a closed rp with some active people. If you are interested, please pm or comment your rp style and reply to this sample:

You are in a forest and without any weapons or tools you normally have. You see a small pack which may contain anything. A couple of arrows whiz by. You don't see who fired them, but you notice that they are fast and on fire. Suddenly the tree they hit goes up in flames. The pack isn't too far but it may be hard to get to. If you stay there any longer, the tree could fall on you or burn you. You notice the attacker hiding behind a tree opposite the burning one. Their foot seems to be stuck in something. You see a bucket by small pond on the side opposite of the pack. Behind the burning tree seems to be an end to the forest. You have little time and must find a way out of there.

That's nice for a strict controlled GM environment, but we don't normally do that style here. Generally we have the story teller doing things, with their character or with their NPCs, and the other characters replying and responding, with a little bit of their own.

I would suggest, instead of doing this, that you post a thread in this forum with your ideas for a good story. See if anyone is interested in the story plot, not just if someone wants to RP with your character.

What's a GM environment?

Game Master. The Game Master is in strict control of the result of people's actions and the story, and sometimes doesn't even participate himself. We don't do that style here. Generally the person who posts the thread is the story teller, and they direct the plot of bad guys and such, while the other people interact and provide their own unique aspects. Naturally, they don't control the villains when the story teller does, but it is also not written out as, "You are here and here, and this is what you have, and you have to wait on me hand and foot for the next bit."

Now, to my suggestion above. Post an idea you have for a story with your character. That is what the brainstorming thread is for. "What if this thing happened, and this alien, and my character was doing this, and such and such could happen next, what do you think?" That is the general gist, and you can see who's interested in it. Asking to have her start in a closed RP, with little idea to the other people on what kind of situation she'd fit in best, and no suggestions yourself, really isn't helpful.

That was a rp sample, like in the character creation template. I wanna know how people rp so I know how I should I rp back. I'm not trying to make a role-play out of that, that's why it says sample.

Quite frankly, you don't need to. You RP your character from your character's point of view, and other people do the same. Why do you need to know "how" they RP? Most people write long posts. Does that answer your question? And I severely doubt ANY one will be replying to your RP sample. I certainly am not. You don't need to know their "style" of RPing in order to RP. You need to know your own character, how your character fits into the plot or can, and what the story is. That is what you should be worrying about.

And again, I suggest that you consider thinking what Kira's first RP is going to be about. Forget for a moment who will be in it. Think on what's happened to your character last in her history, what she's trying to accomplish, what time period she's in, and who might be probable to meet along the way. Then you can worry about who's going to be in it. Generally, if you think of a plot, write up an RP post in the Open RPs forum, (and mention what year this is, so people know if they fit in, as well as the location), then anyone can join who is interested.

If you insist on having a closed RP, then I suggest you start thinking heavily on a story to try to interest other people with. If you can't, then really the Open RP forum is your best choice for a starting RP for your new character.

I need a doctor in the rp, that's for sure. I think I have an idea of how Kira should start. She is in her ship, and she comes to earth(the closest planet to the asteroid). She tries to fit in but doesn't because of her strange eyes, hair, and personality. She (eventually) gets a job. She meets the doctor after an alien encounter. If you've got anything better, I'm all ears. (I am trying to find the thing about the planet with people that are all ears... :3 )

Ok, first, if she's from the future (is she?) she'll need to somehow go back in time, or she'll be coming to a future earth, beyond what many people can RP in without time travel. If she's not (as some planets had some serious tech even with 21st century earth), and goes to present day Earth and gets a job. I don't see though why you NEED the Doctor if it's the latter. Your suggestion could basically fit anyone. You could literally meet anyone. Just create an Open RP and see who joins, you might get a Doctor and a few companions. I would suggest you be thorough in explaining how she made it to Earth however.

I don't really know how to go about doing this, being my first rp I actually planned and brainstormed about. Yes she is from the future, remember that. I really don't want to repeat history by saying she also stole a vortex manipulator, so I really need a doctor in the rp. He could take her back to present earth and leave her there on accident or something. I want to be the story teller, as it is my first rp. I have a few more ideas, but I wanna hear what you have to say first.

It sounds like you're trying to write a story, not have a roleplaying session. It's well and good to have an idea of where you'd like an RP to go, but if you constrain yourself to the details you're shooting yourself in the foot. While writing a story is very linear, roleplaying is very fluid because you can't always tell how someone else is going to react in a situation, and that can change everything. Flexibility in your writing is paramount, at least in my experiences.

I heard once "Role-playing is like writing a book, except with other people." And I get what you mean. But I haven't ever role-played 'long' before. I'm used to role-playing on minecraft and swtor. I haven't really been on a site like this before. So I'll just try to make long paragraphs and many opportunities, but forgive me if I don't. *posted*
