PostSubject: In for a Penny   In for a Penny I_icon_minitimeFri Apr 26, 2013 3:32 pm

( took this from the RP I stopped on one of your many sites... )

"Shawn, come on, don't do that." Jay's voice echoed through the empty building. The convention ended hours ago, but Shawn had felt compelled to stay. The reason being pointless, the idea being hiding in a supply closet until it was safe to come out. Though he thought these things were incredibly boring and was only forced into them by his best friend. "If you have anything better to do, then please, go do it. Come back with chips. If you don't..." Shawn lifted his head, looking his friend up and down, "I will settle for your arm." Jay rolled his eyes, stuffing his hands into his pockets. Shawn licked his lips and went back to work on hacking the computers, which wasn't going all too well. "My arm isn't edible, Shawn." Jay snapped, glancing around the darkened room nervously. "You know, you're a cop, right? You could always come back legally." Shawn rolled his eyes and spun around in the chair to face Jay. "Yes, I could. But hiding in a supply closet for three hours with nothing to munch on besides a piece of gum in my pocket is exactly what I want to do on Saturdays. Besides, I'm James Bond." Shawn pretended to shoot his friend in the head, then jumped up from the chair. "And I think I'm done." He added, giving Jay a hard stare filled with false concentration. "What were you doing anyway? Turning the lights on? Getting a door open? They're all locked." Shawn shook his head, sighing wearily before nodding to his side. "Unlocked those snack machines. They're linked to the computers by this weird wirey thing." He patted Jay on the shoulder and took off into the dark. "You're a grown man, Shawn! And a head-detective! You can't break into a place and steal their candy!" Jay yelled from behind, chasing after Shawn down the hall. Shawn stopped immediately, causing Jay to swerve right to narrowly miss running into his friend. "I didn't break in. I played hide and seek with their cameras and security guards. Sadly, they lost epically because they don't check were mice would hide." Shawn shrugged helplessly in the dark, poking at a lit up candy machine. "Mice wouldn't hide in a janitor's closet." Jay rebuttled. "Would too." Shawn whined, flicking Jay's forehead to try and prove his point. "And you're not James Bond." Jay added, slapping Shawn's hand away annoyingly. He just wanted to go home. "Am too!" As the two began a true argument, something fell to the ground and shattered in the next room over. "Did you hear that?" Jay whispered, watching Shawn slowly eat the Skittles he had snatched from the machine. "Yes." He replied, stuffing his candy into his pocket to hurry to the room. Pieces of the Star Wars exhibit lay scattered around the floor. "Aw, poor Darth Maul." Shawn mumbled, throwing a single Skittle at the head of a fallen human sized character. "That's 'Darth Vader', Shawn." Jay corrected, looking down curiously at the broken exhibit. "Don't make words such as 'Vader' up, Jay. That's childish." Shawn said as he moved around shattered pieces, moving further into the room. "Who casually comes in and breaks things?" Jay questioned aloud as he stared at the things. Shawn's hand shot up, then slowly lowered under the glare of Jay. "Not me?"

( Shawn!! )

I rounded the corner and frowned, crossing my arms as I watched the Skittle fly. "You eat it, not play sports with it." I said, walking over as I stepped over the fallen pieces of the exhibit. Personally, this isn't a place I would decide to be. But I was here. I brushed hair over my ear and wandered to their sides. "Ignore my obvious listening in, but you're a cop, why not get a warrant and come in during the day or something?" I asked, glancing at the skinny man to my left. Though I was listening in, I hadn't payed much attention to the names or many details. "You lot didn't see... Anything, did you? I mean, the whole place is shut down... Besides that bloody snack machine you ransacked. But still. Anything at all, Mr. Cop?" I glanced to my side at him, noting every detail with a small smile. He didn't look like a cop, not at all. Couldn't be that good of one if he broke into a candy machine and was throwing the food at the fallen exhibits rather than picking them up and calling the situation in. I rolled my eyes, looking curiously back at Shawn, then to Jay. "Why would you even break into this place?"

The door at the back of the convention snapped open, much to The Doctor's displeasure, as he sneaked through the back of the establishment and made his way towards the center, tucking his sonic screwdriver back into his suit as he did so. This time he chose to be as silent as possible which meant leaving behind his beloved trench coat and dashing around the corner when he heard the echo of human voices coming from the middle of the convention center. He listened intently to Toni's discussion with the odd duo of so called cops, "They can't be here for the same reason i am" The Doctor mumbled to himself before turning the corner and getting a closer look at the new group that had come together. The glass of the broken exhibit causing a slightl crunching sound beneath his white converse all stars as he tip toed over it and peered out over the edge of the hallway, his ear positioned towards the group so he could hear everything. His eye brow inching upwards with each passing second; the curiosity growing along with the new found feeling of a good adventure or at least, a mystery.

Shawn glanced at the woman, an eyebrow raised as he stuffed his hands into his pockets. "Free candy." He answered easily, nodding his head in agreement. Jay slapped his arm, causing Shawn to cry out dramatically and whack Jay back. "No, we're not here for free candy. Shawn... Detective Hill, had a hunch about something and-" As Jay was speaking, Shawn began to cut him off: "- and the simplest of all solutions hit me. I play George, he plays Lennie as we hang out with mice in a closet." Jay turned on his best friend with a small trace of embarrassment. "That is not how Of Mice and Men went, Shawn." Shawn clasped his hands together, looking back at Toni with a small frown, "obviously he didn't read the Mouse Edition."

I nodded, hardly following what the energetic one was going on about. "The Mouse Edition. Honestly don't think that's a real thing." I said, pausing slightly as I listened to the noises around me. I looked down at my feet, then Shawn's and Jay's. Glass wasn't visible as I turned, slowly wandering to where I knew the sound echoed from. Investigating; something I've learned to do quite often after meeting Sea Devils, Aaron, and Scotty. It felt familiar, which was something I desperately needed. Nearly there, I felt a small pressure under my combat boot and I glanced down. "No more Skittle throwing." I muttered, bending down to pick it up. It was smushed, the faint color blue coming in cracks. I spun, throwing it at the back of Shawn's head with a proud smirk.

The Doctor scrutinized the group as they spoke about the skittles and in a sigh, he glanced down to the floor where he could clearly make out his tracks in a green skittle that had more than likely stuck to the bottom of his shoe. Moving away from them, he maneuvered through the halls until finding a nicely unlit portion of room and hid in there to give him time to scrape the skittles off of his shoes to cover up his tracks. He would have used his sonic screwdriver to find what he was looking for ages ago but the sound would trigger the alarm, much less the actual living people that were grouped together near the computers. Hours ago, The Doctor received a warning from his TARDIS scanner that a massive power surge was growing in the convention, much farther than that of capabilities of human technology. This is what drove is curiosity, along with the fear that if that power go into the wrong hands then severe consequences could come with it.

The skittles took a little bit of muscle to scrape off but they finally came off and the candy fell loosely to the carpeted floor of the convention room where The Doctor sat in the corner. With no other choice, he flipped out his sonic screwdriver and used it for light to see what exactly was in the room. Moving his eyes over to a filing cabinet, The Doctor nonchalantly walked over to it and pulled open the drawer and placed his sonic screwdriver in his mouth as he sorted through the files until coming upon a powering file. The file was labeled power restoration project and had a huge printed, Classified, sign in front of it in red lettering. Upon opening up the file, The Doctor scanned over a few pages before coming upon a page revealing their new power plan, that of which included, getting energy from their Crashed Ship.

Shawn's head flew up protectively, though failing to smack the bite sized candy away. He glanced at Jay, turned slightly and gaped at Toni. "I didn't throw any! It was Jay." Before Jay could protest, Shawn slipped another Skittle from his pocket and chucked it at his friend. Jay, this time, caught it and began muttering complaints under his breath. Shawn proceeded in his path towards Toni until stopping directly in front of her. "My friend, who was formally known as M.C. Clap Yo Hands," Shawn clapped his hands several times, "has a medical condition. Delorian." Shawn intertwined his fingers and glanced back at Jay. "That's a car, Shawn." He protested and Shawn turned his head back to look at Toni. "First step, regretting the sickness's name." Shawn mumbled a lose 'excuse me' and slipped past Toni, walking out of the room back into the hall.

I glanced at Jay, turned and followed after Shawn. "You know, we could really use some of those detective skills right about now." I said, glancing around the hall. Nothing seemed out of place, but I had never been known for being very observant. And Shawn seemed like a big child. I crossed my arms, my eyes shifting back to Shawn as I cleared my throat. "Seriously. We'll be needing grown up Shawn. Detective Shawn. Ring any bells?"

The Doctor took out the file and closed the filling cabinet, his eyes glued on the file was he walked amiously through the doors and into the hall without thinking twice about Toni and her gang of childish detectives. But the sound of their voices snapped The Doctor out of his gaze and quickly he dashed behind an exhibit where it showed a polar bear roaring and standing on it's two legs. The Doctor held his body up against the stuffed animal in an attempt to hide from the team of investigators as they passed by; the two investigators tossing skittles at each other like children, giving him the time to ease out of the exhibit and spring madly down the hall. Thinking that he was in the clear once he turned the corner, The Doctor scanned the central room for the computers and once finding one, he bolted towards it and hopped into the chair in front of it. "Now, let's see what you've got here" He mumbled to himself as he set the file down next to him, flipped out his sonic screwdriver and searched through the computers hard drive, looking furiously for anything on their power output and input from the last few weeks. "Oh. Look at what we have here then" The Doctor said with intrigue, his eye brows raising as two images slammed up against the screen showing the outline of a ship and three full pages on top of them, "All this power and for what?" he mumbled as he double clicked on the page and read through one of the articles carefully.

"Detective Shawn. I like the sound of that." Shawn nodded in approval, though made a disgusted face once he heard Toni mutter 'grown up'. "That's something I'm not so sure about. Maturity is overrated, my dear puppets!" Shawn exclaimed, clapping his hands together as he stepped over glass and proceeded down the hall. "Shawn, we're not pup-" Shawn cut Jay off by placing his hand over his friend's mouth. He put a finger to his lips, shaking his head slightly as he mouthed a random word in German. The only word he knew. Vader. Jay raised an eyebrow. "You're right. You're not puppies. But you are puppets. There's a difference." Shawn glanced at Toni, shrugging softly as he nodded to Jay. "He's slow. Anyway. Detective Shawn it is." He dropped his hands from Jay and stepped forward, scanning the hallway behind them and in front of them. Nothing but traces of glass and Skittles.

Watching Shawn, I raised an eyebrow. "Gonna move? Or are you one of those really observant blokes?" I asked after several minutes of deathly silence. My skin was crawling with goosebumps and I already felt my attention veering off to the wrong path. I stepped on a Skittle, twisting it under my boot to watch it smush into several fractions of what once a whole. I smirked, proud of my disfigured Skittle as I looked back up at the two Robin William 'Peter Pan's'. "Find anything yet? Or am I sitting here patiently for no reason whatsoever?"

The Doctor glanced over his shoulder at the echoing sounds of Toni and her friends, he grunted with a chuckle as he looked back to the screen of the computer and continued to type and search through the files he had pulled from the hard drive. "Oi!" He called out, loud enough for the gang of ever growing annoying investigators, "If you don't mind, i'm busy here so keep the noise down" he added, activating his screwdriver once more to pull out more files. Immediately a picture of a dalek shipped popped up onto the screen; it's doors open and countless wires ran in and out of the ship, hooking up to almost every part of the ship as it could. The very sight of the ship froze The Doctor in the seat, his eyes fixed on the picture of the ship in shock and horror, "A dalek ship" he mumbled in a hissing tone, "They stole power from a dalek ship. A dalek ship!!" he paused as he leaned back in the chair and ran his hands through his hair, "Humans, humans, humans. Sometimes you are just so thick!".

I looked in the direction the voice came from. It sounded familiar, but after the Sea Devils, nothing should've been familiar. "I'm Toni, by the way. Or at least that's what a nice stranger told me a few weeks ago. I'm still trying to figure out why I've got a man's name for a nickname, but I've been told I'm not allowed to change it." I said, feeling comfortable enough with the two idiots enough to share any kind of information. But if any response came, I ignored it and wandered cautiously into the room the voice had echoed from. I crossed my arms upon entering and raised an eyebrow at the man with his back to me. "Because you being busy with... Whatever the hell you're doing is more important than what they're ranting on about, right?" I asked, finding my tone of voice flowing off smoothly. Talking with an air of sarcasm was becoming a common thing, though I didn't exactly appreciate it.

"Actually, yes it is. Just a tad bit" The Doctor said, spinning in his chair around to face Toni whom he could not see her face because of the lighting, "Alien space craft being used for power in this building. And not just an alien, dalek. A dalek fleet ship being used for power. So, yeah, i think it is just a tad bit more important". Smirking, The Doctor spun back around to the computer and activated his sonic screwdriver over it and once more sorted throughout the seemingly endless files and spyware that the computers hard drive had stored, "Now, let's see if we can find out where you're keeping it" he mumbled, his eyes now completely focused on the computer screen who's light was reflected in The Doctor's glasses.

I clicked my tongue, nodding slowly at his reply. "Right.. Daleks. Sounds familiar. They're the things that look like old styled salt and pepper shakers, yeah?" I commented, my brain racking over the name as I sat down in a vacant chair to his side. My eyes skimmed over the computer screen before veering away to look about the room. "Bad paint job." I whispered, squinting at the puke green walls of the room with a pinch of disgust. My head pounded with concentration as it continued searching for information on Daleks, but of course, nothing surfaced. "Typical," I mumbled to myself upon my mind's failure as I glanced back at the screen.

The Doctor raised his eye brow as he continued to hold the button of the sonic screwdriver over the screen over the computer as he looked over to Toni curiously, "How do you know about the Daleks?" he asked before suddenly the light reflected off of her just enough for him to realize who she was, "Oh hello Toni! Fancy seeing you here...why did you choose to come to the exhibit? Not for the same reason i have i'm guessing" he said in a joking tone as his otherwise blank facial expression turned into a grin. Glancing back to the computer, he typed in a few passwords to get passed the security then suddenly a picture of a half dead Dalek, chained up popped onto the screen. It's eye stock hung low, its weapons chopped off prominently by an axe, and it's armor cracked in several places as if someone had hit it with a sludge hammer.

I ignored his greeting, still uncomfortable with my supposed name. I rubbed the side of my head, trying to answer his question with information I didn't have. I glanced back at the screen and winced slightly at the image. "That's gotta hurt." I whispered, immediately looking at my hands. I groaned at my reaction and jumped out of the chair. "I didn't choose to come to an exhibit," I finally said, crossing my arms once again, "I was messing with the bracelet thing Scotty gave me and... I ended up here. Simple as that. Wasn't exactly expecting the two nut-balls either."

The Doctor sighed and leaned back into the chair, "Yeah" he mumbled, "Even if it's a Dalek and it killed my people. To do something like that to another thing that feels pain..that cries and screams while you are doing it". He stopped as he pulled himself upward and back facing the computer and began to type, "If i can just find out where they are delivering the energy to this place...aha! gotcha!" he exclaimed suddenly, finding the right file which held the location of the quote on quote power plant for the exhibit. Bursting from his seating position in the chair, The Doctor spun around and almost went into a full fledged run before stopping to reply to Toni's statement, "Oh.." he said with a rub of the back of his head, "Umm..yeah, i think you can deal with them. I..i gotta go check this out". Quickly flipping out his sonic screwdriver, he activated it in the direction of the computer, causing it to spark and shut off, then just as quickly as he got it out, The Doctor tucked it back into his suits chest pocket. "Right then. Allons-y" The Doctor said with a slight salute before turning and dashing down the hallway and out of the main room; heading directly for his TARDIS which was parked outside of the building.

I glanced at the computer, tapping a button as I sighed. "Could have just shut the bloody thing off." I whispered, rubbing my forehead as I collapsed into the chair. I debated racing after him, because I knew he couldn't have gotten too far, but my head was pounding. I dragged my phone from my pocket, pressing a single key before lifting it to my ear. "What?"A man's voice asked as the call picked up. "Scotty? Memory loss. How long does it last?" I asked into the phone, leaning back in the chair as I waited for a reply. He sighed on the other end, probably sick of my constant questioning. "I dunno, Tone. Could be forever, could be a few more weeks. Your memory was erased, there's a difference. Now, I love you to bits, but my show is on." Scotty chuckled and I assumed he was trying to get a rise out of me. Not giving him the satisfaction, I broke the call and slipped my mobile back into my pocket. "Deal with cheese-balls? Please," I grumbled, jumping from the chair as I quickly went after him. I pushed the main entrance of the building open and stepped out, placing my hands on my hips as I watched him. "Check what out?" I yelled over, raising an eyebrow curiously.

The Doctor peered over his shoulder to Toni with now widened eyes and a slightly choked up voice, "Oh...ummm" he mumbled, glancing back at the TARDIS and Toni several times as he quickly thought of an excuse, "Well..you see this..police box. I was going to check in it for some..numbers i need to get of some friends to help out...that's all". Forcing a false grin, The Doctor inserted the key and quickly bolted into the TARDIS and flung the door shut behind him as the raced up the ramp, tossing his coat up onto the coral support column as he passed it. Tucking the key back into his pocket, The Doctor approached the TARDIS and stuck his sonic screwdriver into the slot and yanked over the scanner, "Now..let's see what we've got here.." he mumbled, gazing up at the scanner, unbeknownst to him at the time that he did not lock the door behind him.

I glanced over my shoulder, back towards the building I knew I should be going back to. Hardly. I stepped towards the box, tapping it lightly to watch in surprise as it pushed backwards under the pressure. I smirked in approval and stepped it, quietly shutting it behind me as I looked around the room. "Coral." I said, my first reaction springing out in an amused tone. "You've obviously got a magic box... Can have any design you bloody want... And you pick coral of all things." I wandered up to one of the supports, patting it before glancing at the owner. He still contained some familiarity I couldn't place. I bit my bottom lip hard until I could taste a drip of blood. "You're like a man version of Mary Poppins. Instead of some bag, you've got a box."

The Doctor smiled madly at the reference to Mary Poppins and his coral desktop theme he had chosen and kept for all these long years, "It helps with the tension" he said, finally replying to Toni as she entered the TARDIS, "After nine hundred plus years of traveling and fighting evil creatures, the tension gets to you sometime and being in this place helps. Well..that and having people like you and Sonya telling your jokes and sarcastic toned criticizes" he joked with a chuckle. As the TARDIS downloaded the information the sonic screwdriver picked up from the computer inside the exhibit, The Doctor turned to face Toni and leaned up against the TARDIS's console, "I don't think Mary Poppins was mad...a bit of a visionary but not mad. And before you ask, yes the bag was real...and no it wasn't magical..well..i say wasn't loosely..well.." he paused as he pondered the subject then lost his train of thought.

Spotting his lost facial expression, I dragged my eyes away from him and looked over the console. Then the coral again with an eye roll. "I wasn't going to ask about the bag." I said, crossing my thin arms as I leaned against the railing heavily. My eyes landed back on him and I cocked an eyebrow. "So. Mr. Box Man. Have a name? Obviously you know me. Or did. Scotty hasn't told me everything yet." I pushed away from the railing, wandering over until I was directly in front of him. "But you're wrong about one thing. Mary Poppins was definitely mad. Only reason I like that movie. She's mad and sings... A lot."

The Doctor nodded with a smirk, "Well..i don't sing" he replied with a chuckle as his mind scrutinized Toni's new demeanor and the connection it had with the stories he had heard about her memory loss. A few weeks ago, in her time line, The Doctor had visited her, just to check up on her and saw first hand how much memory she had lost and to him it was a double bladed sword. In one way it was bad because everything they had was gone but on the other, it also gave Toni back her life without The Doctor's interference. "My name's The Doctor" He said with a smile that pushed it's way through the smirk as he grabbed her hand and shook it, "Nice to meet you Toni" then released it as he turned and walked around the console, tugging the scanner along with him to check up on the downloading process.

I glanced down at my hand, then back up at him as I thought. "Yeah," I mumbled, turning as I leaned against the console. I shut my eyes, dragging in a sharp breath as my memories failed me once again. "The Doctor." I repeated, listening to it roll off my tongue. I've said it before. I rubbed my forehead, opening my eyes as I spun on my heels to look over the console at him. "The whole memory thing," I started, at a loss for words as I watched him intently, "in all, it seems bad to someone... Anyone else, but it's worse, you know? For me. I look at something I've probably seen before, and I feel something... But I can't latch onto it." I took a step away from the console, my eyes trained on him as I swayed from left to right. "Like you. I'm looking at you, I don't recognize you, but..." I trailed off, shrugging as I shut my eyes again. "Something like that."
